Genesis 4

(Hebrews 11:4)

1And AdamH120 had relations withH3045 his wifeH802 EveH2332, and she conceivedH2029 and gave birth toH3205 CainH7014.1

“With the help ofH854 the LORDH3068 I have brought forthH7069 a manH376,” she saidH559.

2LaterH3254 she gave birthH3205 to Cain’s brotherH251 AbelH1893.

NowH1961 AbelH1893 wasH1961 a keeperH7462 of sheepH6629, while CainH7014 was a tillerH5647 of the soilH127. 3So in the courseH7093 of timeH3117, CainH7014 broughtH935 some of the fruitH6529 of the soilH127 as an offeringH4503 to the LORDH3068, 4while AbelH1893H1931 broughtH935 the best portionsH2459 of the firstbornH1060 of his flockH6629.

And the LORDH3068 looked with favorH8159 onH413 AbelH1893 andH413 his offeringH4503, 5butH413 He had noH3808 regardH8159 forH413 CainH7014 and his offeringH4503. So CainH7014 became veryH3966 angryH2734, and his countenanceH6440 fellH5307.

6“WhyH4100 are you angryH2734,” saidH559 the LORDH3068 toH413 CainH7014, “and whyH4100 has your countenanceH6440 fallenH5307? 7IfH518 you do what is rightH3190, willH3808 you notH3808 be acceptedH7613? But ifH518 you refuse to do what is rightH3190, sinH2403 is crouchingH7257 at your doorH6607; it desiresH8669 youH413,2 but youH859 must masterH4910 it.”

8Then CainH7014 saidH559 toH413 his brotherH251 AbelH1893, “Let us go out to the field.”3 AndH1961 while they wereH1961 in the fieldH7704, CainH7014 rose upH6965 againstH413 his brotherH251 AbelH1893 and killed himH2026.

9And the LORDH3068 saidH559 toH413 CainH7014, “WhereH335 is your brotherH251 AbelH1893?”

“I do notH3808 knowH3045!” he answeredH559. “Am IH595 my brother’sH251 keeperH8104?”

10“WhatH4100 have you doneH6213?” repliedH559 the LORD. “The voiceH6963 of your brother’sH251 bloodH1818 cries outH6817 to MeH413 fromH4480 the groundH127. 11NowH6258 youH859 are cursed and banishedH779 fromH4480 the groundH127, whichH834 has openedH6475 its mouthH6310 to receiveH3947 your brother’sH251 bloodH1818 from your handH3027. 12WhenH3588 you tillH5647 the groundH127, it will noH3808 longerH3254 yieldH5414 its produceH3581 to you. You will beH1961 a fugitiveH5128 and a wandererH5110 on the earthH776.”

13But CainH7014 saidH559 toH413 the LORDH3068, “My punishmentH57714 is greaterH1419 than I can bearH5375. 14BeholdH2005, thisH853 dayH3117 You have driven meH1644 from the faceH6440 of the earthH127, and fromH5921 Your faceH6440 I will be hiddenH5641; I will beH1961 a fugitiveH5128 and a wandererH5110 on the earthH776, andH1961 whoeverH3605 finds meH4672 will kill meH2026.”

15“Not soH3651!”5 repliedH559 the LORDH3068. “If anyoneH3605 slaysH2026 CainH7014, then Cain will be avengedH5358 sevenfoldH7659.” And the LORDH3068 placedH7760 a markH226 on CainH7014, so that no oneH1115H3605 who found himH4672 would killH5221 himH853.

16So CainH7014 went outH3318 from the presenceH6440 of the LORDH3068 and settledH3427 in the landH776 of NodH5113,6 eastH6926 of EdenH5731.

The Descendants of Cain

17And CainH7014 had relations withH3045 his wifeH802, and she conceivedH2029 and gave birth toH3205 EnochH2585. ThenH1961 Cain builtH1129 a cityH5892 and namedH7121H8034 it afterH8034 his sonH1121 EnochH2585.

18Now to EnochH2585 was bornH3205 IradH5897, and IradH5897 was the father ofH3205 MehujaelH4232, and MehujaelH4232 was the father ofH3205 MethusaelH4967, and MethusaelH4967 was the father ofH3205 LamechH3929. 19And LamechH3929 marriedH3947 twoH8147 womenH802, oneH259 namedH8034 AdahH5711 andH8034 the otherH8145 ZillahH6741.

20AdahH5711 gave birth toH3205 JabalH2989; heH1931 wasH1961 the fatherH1 of those who dwellH3427 in tentsH168 and raise livestockH4735. 21And his brother’sH251 nameH8034 was JubalH3106; heH1931 wasH1961 the fatherH1 of allH3605 who playH8610 the harpH3658 and fluteH5748.

22And ZillahH6741H1931H1571 gave birth toH3205 Tubal-cainH8423, a forgerH3913 of everyH3605 implementH2794 of bronzeH5178 and ironH1270. And the sisterH269 of Tubal-cainH8423 was NaamahH5279.

23Then LamechH3929 saidH559 to his wivesH802:

“AdahH5711 and ZillahH6741, hearH8085 my voiceH6963;wivesH802 of LamechH3929, listenH238 to my speechH565.ForH3588 IH376 have slainH2026 a man for wounding meH6482,a young manH3206 for striking meH2250.24IfH3588 CainH7014 is avengedH5358 sevenfoldH7659,then LamechH3929 seventy-sevenfoldH7657H7651.”7

Seth and Enosh

25And AdamH121 againH5750 had relations withH3045 his wifeH802, and she gave birth toH3205 a sonH1121 and namedH7121 himH8034 SethH8352,8 sayingH3588, “GodH430 has grantedH7896 me anotherH312 seedH2233 in placeH8478 of AbelH1893, sinceH3588 CainH7014 killed himH2026.”

26And to SethH8352H1931 alsoH1571 a sonH1121 was bornH3205, and he calledH7121 himH8034 EnoshH583.

At that timeH227 men beganH2490 to call uponH71219 the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068.
