Cain and Abel
1Now the manH120 1hadH3045 relationsH3045 with his wifeH802 EveH2332, and she conceivedH2029 and gaveH3205 birthH3205 to 2CainH7014, and she saidH559, “I have gottenH7069 a 3manchildH376 with the help of the LordH3068.” 2AgainH3254, she gaveH3205 birthH3205 to his brotherH251 AbelH1893. And 4AbelH1893 was 5a keeperH7462 of flocksH6629, but CainH7014 was a tillerH5647 of the groundH127. 3So it cameH1961 about 6in the courseH4480H7093 of timeH3117 that CainH7014 broughtH935 an offeringH4503 to the LordH3068 of the fruitH6529 of the groundH127. 47AbelH1893, on his partH1571 alsoH1571 broughtH935 of the firstlingsH1060 of his flockH6629 and of their fatH2459 portionsH2459. And 8the LordH3068 hadH8159 regardH8159 for AbelH1893 and for his offeringH4503; 5but 9for CainH7014 and for his offeringH4503 He hadH8159 noH3808 regardH8159. So 10CainH7014 becameH2734 veryH3966 angryH2734 and his countenanceH6440 fellH5307. 6Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to CainH7014, “11WhyH4100 are you angryH2734? And whyH4100 has your countenanceH6440 fallenH5307? 712IfH518 you doH3190 wellH3190, 13will not your countenance be liftedH7613 up? 14And ifH518 you do not doH3190 wellH3190, sinH2403 is crouchingH7257 at the doorH6607; and its desireH8669 is for you, 15but you must masterH4910 it.” 8CainH7014 16toldH559 AbelH1893 his brotherH251. And it cameH1961 about when they were in the fieldH7704, that CainH7014 roseH6965 up againstH413 AbelH1893 his brotherH251 and 17killedH2026 him.
9Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to CainH7014, “18WhereH335 is AbelH1893 your brotherH251?” And he saidH559, “I do not knowH3045. Am I my brother’sH251 keeperH8104?” 10He saidH559, “WhatH4100 have you doneH6213? 19The voiceH6963 of your brother’sH251 bloodH1818 is cryingH6817 to Me from the groundH127. 11NowH6258 20you are cursedH779 from the groundH127, whichH834 has openedH6475 its mouthH6310 to receiveH3947 your brother’sH251 bloodH1818 from your handH3027. 1221WhenH3588 you cultivateH5647 the groundH127, it will noH3808 longerH3254 yieldH5414 its strengthH3581 to you; 22you will be a vagrantH5128 and a wandererH5110 on the earthH776.” 13CainH7014 saidH559 to the LordH3068, “My punishmentH5771 is tooH4480 greatH1419 to bearH5375! 14BeholdH2005, You have 23drivenH1644 me this dayH3117 from the faceH6440 of the groundH127; and from Your faceH6440 I will be hiddenH5641, and 24I will be a vagrantH5128 and a wandererH5110 on the earthH776, and 25whoeverH3605 findsH4672 me will killH2026 me.” 15So the LordH3068 saidH559 to him, “ThereforeH3651 whoeverH3605 killsH2026 CainH7014, vengeanceH5358 will be takenH5358 on him 26sevenfoldH7659.” And the LordH3068 2728appointedH7760 a signH226 for CainH7014, so that noH3605 oneH3605 findingH4672 him would slayH5221 him.
16Then CainH7014 wentH3318 out from the presenceH6440 29of the LordH3068, and 30settledH3427 in the landH776 of 31NodH5113, eastH6926 of EdenH5731.
17CainH7014 32hadH3045 relationsH3045 with his wifeH802 and she conceivedH2029, and gaveH3205 birthH3205 to EnochH2585; and he builtH1129 a cityH5892, and calledH7121 the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 EnochH2585, after the nameH8034 of his sonH1121. 18Now to EnochH2585 was bornH3205 IradH5897, and IradH5897 33becameH3205 the fatherH3205 of MehujaelH4232, and MehujaelH4232 34becameH3205 the fatherH3205 of MethushaelH4967, and MethushaelH4967 35becameH3205 the fatherH3205 of LamechH3929. 19LamechH3929 tookH3947 to himself 36twoH8147 wivesH802: the nameH8034 of the oneH259 was AdahH5711, and the nameH8034 of the otherH8145, ZillahH6741. 20AdahH5711 gaveH3205 birthH3205 to JabalH2989; he was the fatherH1 of those who dwellH3427 in tentsH168 and have livestockH4735. 21His brother’sH251 nameH8034 was JubalH3106; he was the fatherH1 of allH3605 those who playH8610 the lyreH3658 and pipeH5748. 22As for ZillahH6741, she alsoH1571 gaveH3205 birthH3205 to Tubal-cainH8423, the forgerH3913 of allH3605 implementsH2790 of bronzeH5178 and ironH1270; and the sisterH269 of Tubal-cainH8423 was NaamahH5279.
23LamechH3929 saidH559 to his wivesH802, “AdahH5711 and ZillahH6741, ListenH8085 to my voiceH6963, You wivesH802 of LamechH3929, GiveH238 heedH238 to my speechH565, 37For I 38have killedH2026 a manH376 for woundingH6482 me; And a boyH3206 for strikingH2250 me;24IfH3588 CainH7014 is avengedH5358 39sevenfoldH7659, Then LamechH3929 seventy-sevenfoldH7657.”
2540AdamH121 41hadH3045 relationsH3045 with his wifeH802 againH5750; and she gaveH3205 birthH3205 to a sonH1121, and namedH7121H8034 him 42SethH8352, for, she said, “GodH430 43has appointedH7896 me anotherH312 44offspringH2233 in placeH8478 of AbelH1893, 45for CainH7014 killedH2026 him.” 26To SethH8352, to him alsoH1571 46a sonH1121 was bornH3205; and he calledH7121 his nameH8034 EnoshH583. ThenH227 men beganH2490 47to callH7121 48upon the nameH8034 of the LordH3068.
