Genesis 3
(Romans 5:12–21)
1Now the serpentH51751 wasH1961 more craftyH6175 than anyH3605 beastH2416 of the fieldH7704 thatH834 the LORDH3068 GodH430 had madeH6213. And he saidH559 toH413 the womanH802, “Did GodH430 reallyH3588H637 sayH559, ‘You must notH3808 eatH398 from anyH3605 treeH6086 in the gardenH1588?’”
2The womanH802 answeredH559H413 the serpentH5175, “We may eatH398 the fruitH6529 of the treesH6086 of the gardenH1588, 3but about the fruitH6529 of the treeH6086 in the middleH8432 of the gardenH1588, GodH430 has saidH559, ‘You must notH3808 eatH398 of itH4480 or touchH5060 it, or you will dieH4191.’”
4“You will notH3808 surely dieH4191,” the serpentH5175 toldH559H413 the womanH802. 5“ForH3588 GodH430 knowsH3045 thatH3588 in the dayH3117 you eatH398 of itH4480, your eyesH5869 will beH1961 openedH6491 and you will be like GodH430, knowingH3045 goodH2896 and evilH7451.”
6When the womanH802 sawH7200 thatH3588 the treeH6086 was goodH2896 for foodH3978 andH3588 pleasingH8378 to the eyesH5869, and that it was desirableH2530 for obtaining wisdomH7919, she tookH3947 the fruitH6529 and ate itH398. She also gaveH5414H1571 some to her husbandH376 who was with herH5973, and he ate itH398.
7And the eyesH5869 of both of themH8147 were openedH6491, and theyH1992 knewH3045 thatH3588 they were nakedH5903; so they sewed togetherH8609 figH8384 leavesH5929 and madeH6213 coveringsH2290 for themselves.
God Arraigns Adam and Eve
8Then the manH120 and his wifeH802 heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 GodH430 walkingH1980 in the gardenH1588 in the breezeH73072 of the dayH3117, and they hid themselvesH2244 from the presenceH6440 of the LORDH3068 GodH430 amongH8432 the treesH6086 of the gardenH1588.
9But the LORDH3068 GodH430 called outH7121 toH413 the manH120, “Where are youH335?”
10“I heardH8085 Your voiceH6963 in the gardenH1588,” he repliedH559, “and I was afraidH3372 becauseH3588 IH595 was nakedH5903; so I hid myselfH2244.”
11“WhoH4310 toldH5046 youH859 thatH3588 you were nakedH5903?” askedH559 the LORD God. “Have you eatenH398 fromH4480 the treeH6086 of whichH834 I commanded youH6680 not toH1115 eatH398?”
12And the manH120 answeredH559, “The womanH802 whomH834 You gaveH5414 meH5978, sheH1931 gaveH5414 me fruit fromH4480 the treeH6086, and I ate itH398.”
13Then the LORDH3068 GodH430 saidH559 to the womanH802, “WhatH4100 is thisH2063 you have doneH6213?”
“The serpentH5175 deceived meH5377,” she repliedH559, “and I ateH398.”
The Fate of the Serpent
14So the LORDH3068 GodH430 saidH559 toH413 the serpentH5175:
The Punishment of Mankind
16ToH413 the womanH802 He saidH559:
17And to AdamH121 He saidH559:
20And AdamH120 namedH7121H8034 his wifeH802 EveH2332,5 becauseH3588 sheH1931 would beH1961 the motherH517 of allH3605 the livingH2416.
The Expulsion from Paradise
21And the LORDH3068 GodH430 madeH6213 garmentsH3801 of skinH5785 for AdamH121 and his wifeH802, and He clothed themH3847.
22Then the LORDH3068 GodH430 saidH559, “BeholdH2005, the manH120 has becomeH1961 like oneH259 of UsH4480, knowingH3045 goodH2896 and evilH7451. And nowH6258, lestH6435 he reach outH7971 his handH3027 and takeH3947 alsoH1571 from the treeH6086 of lifeH2416, and eatH398, and liveH2421 foreverH5769...”
23Therefore the LORDH3068 GodH430 banished himH7971 from the GardenH1588 of EdenH5731 to workH5647 the groundH127 from whichH834 he had been takenH3947. 24So He drove outH1644 the manH120 andH853 stationedH7931 cherubimH3742 on the east sideH6924 of the GardenH1588 of EdenH5731, along withH853 a whirlingH2015 swordH2719 of flameH3858 to guardH8104 the wayH1870 to the treeH6086 of lifeH2416.
