Genesis 9
1And GodH430 blessedH1288 NoahH5146 and his sonsH1121 and saidH559 to them, “Be fruitfulH6509 and multiplyH7235 and fillH4390 the earthH776. 2The fearH4172 and dread of youH2844 will fallH1961 onH5921 everyH3605 living creatureH2416 on the earthH776H5921, everyH3605 birdH5775 of the airH8064, everyH3605 creature thatH834 crawlsH7430 on the groundH127, and allH3605 the fishH1709 of the seaH3220. They are deliveredH5414 into your handH3027. 3EverythingH3605 that livesH2416 and movesH7431 will beH1961 foodH402 for you; just as I gave you the greenH3418 plantsH6212, I now giveH5414 you all thingsH3605. 4ButH389 you must notH3808 eatH398 meatH1320 with its lifebloodH5315 still in itH1818. 5And surelyH389 I will requireH1875H3027 the life of anyH3605 manH120 or beastH2416 by whose handH3027 your lifebloodH5315H1818 is shed. I will demand an accountingH1875 from anyoneH120 who takes the lifeH5315 of his fellow manH376H251:
8Then GodH430 saidH559 toH413 NoahH5146H413 and his sonsH1121 with himH854H559, 9“BeholdH2005, I nowH589 establishH6965 My covenantH1285 with youH854 and yourH854 descendantsH2233 after youH310, 10and withH854 everyH3605 livingH2416 creatureH5315 thatH834 was with youH854—the birdsH5775, the livestockH929, and everyH3605 beastH2416 of the earthH776—everyH3605 living thingH2416H776 that came outH3318 of the arkH8392H3605. 11And I establishH6965 My covenantH1285 with youH854: NeverH3808 againH5750 will allH3605 lifeH1320 be cut offH3772 by the watersH4325 of a floodH3999; neverH3808 againH5750 will there beH1961 a floodH3999 to destroyH7843 the earthH776.”
12And GodH430 saidH559, “ThisH2063 is the signH226 of the covenantH1285 IH589 am makingH5414 between MeH996 and youH996 andH996 everyH3605 livingH2416 creatureH5315 with youH854, a covenant for all generationsH1755 to comeH5769: 13I have setH5414 My rainbowH7198 in the cloudsH6051, and it will beH1961 a signH226 of the covenantH1285 betweenH996 MeH996 and the earthH776.
Whenever I formH6049 cloudsH6051 overH5921 the earthH776 and the rainbowH7198 appearsH7200 in the cloudsH6051, 15I will rememberH2142 My covenantH1285 between MeH996 and youH996 andH996 everyH3605 livingH2416 creatureH5315 of everyH3605 kindH1320. NeverH3808 againH5750 will the watersH4325 becomeH1961 a floodH3999 to destroyH7843 allH3605 lifeH1320. 16And whenever the rainbowH7198 appearsH1961 in the cloudsH6051, I will see itH7200 and rememberH2142 the everlastingH5769 covenantH1285 betweenH996 GodH430 andH996 everyH3605 livingH2416 creatureH5315 of everyH3605 kindH1320 thatH834 is onH5921 the earthH776.”
17So GodH430 saidH559 toH413 NoahH5146, “ThisH2063 is the signH226 of the covenantH1285 thatH834 I have establishedH6965 betweenH996 MeH996 and everyH3605 creatureH1320 onH5921 the earthH776.”
Noah’s Shame and Canaan’s Curse
18The sonsH1121 of NoahH5146 who came outH3318 ofH4480 the arkH8392 wereH1961 ShemH8035, HamH2526, and JaphethH3315. And HamH2526H1931 was the fatherH1 of CanaanH3667. 19TheseH428 threeH7969 were the sonsH1121 of NoahH5146, and from themH428 the wholeH3605 earthH776 was populatedH5310.
20Now NoahH5146, a manH376 of the soilH127, proceededH24901 to plantH5193 a vineyardH3754. 21But when he drankH8354 some ofH4480 its wineH3196, he became drunkH7937 and uncovered himselfH1540 insideH8432 his tentH168. 22And HamH2526, the fatherH1 of CanaanH3667, sawH7200 his father’sH1 nakednessH6172 and toldH5046 his twoH8147 brothersH251 outsideH2351.
23Then ShemH8035 and JaphethH3315 tookH3947 a garmentH8071 and placedH7760 it acrossH5921H8147 their shouldersH7926, and walkingH1980 backwardH322, they coveredH3680 their father’sH1 nakednessH6172. Their facesH6440 were turned awayH322 so that they did notH3808 seeH7200 their father’sH1 nakednessH6172.
24When NoahH5146 awokeH3364 from his drunkennessH3196 and learnedH3045 whatH834 his youngestH6996 sonH1121 had doneH6213 to him, 25he saidH559,
Shem’s Blessing and Noah’s Death
28AfterH310 the floodH3999, NoahH5146 livedH2421 350H7969H3967H2572 yearsH8141. 29So NoahH5146 livedH3117 a total ofH1961H3605 950H8672H3967H2572H8141 yearsH8141, and then he diedH4191.
