Cain and Abel
1Now the manH120 1hadH3045 relationsH3045 with his wifeH802 EveH2332, and she conceivedH2029 and gaveH3205 birthH3205 to CainH7014, and she saidH559, “I have obtainedH7069 a maleH376 child with the help of the LordH3068.” 2And againH3254, she gaveH3205 birthH3205 to his brotherH251 AbelH1893. Now 2AbelH1893 was 3a keeperH7462 of flocksH6629, but CainH7014 was a cultivatorH5647 of the groundH127. 3So it cameH1961 aboutH1961 4in the courseH4480H7093 of timeH3117 that CainH7014 broughtH935 an offeringH4503 to the LordH3068 from the fruitH6529 of the groundH127. 45AbelH1893, on his partH1571 alsoH1571 broughtH935 an offering, from the firstbornH1060 of his flockH6629 and from their fatH2459 portionsH2459. And 6the LordH3068 hadH8159 regardH8159 for AbelH1893 and his offeringH4503; 5but 7for CainH7014 and his offeringH4503 He hadH8159 noH3808 regardH8159. So 8CainH7014 becameH2734 veryH3966 angryH2734 and his faceH6440 9wasH5307 gloomyH5307. 6Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to CainH7014, “10WhyH4100 areH2734 you angryH2734? And whyH4100 isH5307 your faceH6440 11gloomyH5307? 712IfH518 you doH3190 wellH3190, 13will your face not be 14cheerfulH7613? 15And ifH518 you do not doH3190 wellH3190, sinH2403 is lurkingH7257 at the doorH6607; and its desireH8669 is for you, 16but you must masterH4910 it.” 8CainH7014 17talkedH559 to his brotherH251 AbelH1893; and it happenedH1961 that when they were in the fieldH7704 CainH7014 roseH6965 upH6965 againstH413 his brotherH251 AbelH1893 and 18killedH2026 him.
9Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to CainH7014, “19WhereH335 is AbelH1893 your brotherH251?” And he saidH559, “I do not knowH3045. Am I my brother’sH251 keeperH8104?” 10Then He saidH559, “WhatH4100 have you doneH6213? 20The voiceH6963 of your brother’sH251 bloodH1818 is cryingH6817 outH6817 to Me from the groundH127. 11NowH6258 21you are cursedH779 from the groundH127, whichH834 has openedH6475 its mouthH6310 to receiveH3947 your brother’sH251 bloodH1818 from your handH3027. 1222WhenH3588 you cultivateH5647 the groundH127, it will noH3808 longerH3254 yieldH5414 its strengthH3581 to you; 23you will be a wandererH5128 and a drifterH5110 on the earthH776.” 13CainH7014 saidH559 to the LordH3068, “My punishmentH5771 is tooH4480 greatH1419 to endureH5375! 14BeholdH2005, You have 24drivenH1644 me this dayH3117 from the faceH6440 of the groundH127; and I will be hiddenH5641 from Your faceH6440, and 25I will be a wandererH5128 and a drifterH5110 on the earthH776, and 26whoeverH3605 findsH4672 me will killH2026 me.” 15So the LordH3068 saidH559 to him, “ThereforeH3651 whoeverH3605 killsH2026 CainH7014, vengeanceH5358 will be takenH5358 on him 27sevenH7659 timesH7659 as much.” And the LordH3068 2829placedH7760 a markH226 on CainH7014, so that noH3605 oneH3605 findingH4672 him would killH5221 him.
16Then CainH7014 leftH3318 the presenceH6440 30of the LordH3068, and 31settledH3427 in the landH776 of 32NodH5113, eastH6926 of EdenH5731.
17CainH7014 33hadH3045 relationsH3045 with his wifeH802 and she conceivedH2029, and gaveH3205 birthH3205 to EnochH2585; and Cain builtH1129 a cityH5892, and namedH7121H8034 the cityH5892 EnochH2585, after the nameH8034 of his sonH1121. 18Now to EnochH2585 was bornH3205 IradH5897, and IradH5897 fatheredH3205 MehujaelH4232, and MehujaelH4232 fatheredH3205 MethushaelH4967, and MethushaelH4967 fatheredH3205 LamechH3929. 19LamechH3929 tookH3947 34twoH8147 wivesH802 for himself: the nameH8034 of the oneH259 was AdahH5711, and the nameH8034 of the otherH8145, ZillahH6741. 20AdahH5711 gaveH3205 birthH3205 to JabalH2989; he was the fatherH1 of those who liveH3427 in tentsH168 and have livestockH4735. 21His brother’sH251 nameH8034 was JubalH3106; he was the fatherH1 of allH3605 those who playH8610 the lyreH3658 and fluteH5748. 22As for ZillahH6741, she alsoH1571 gaveH3205 birthH3205 to Tubal-cainH8423, the forgerH3913 of allH3605 implementsH2790 of bronzeH5178 and ironH1270; and the sisterH269 of Tubal-cainH8423 was NaamahH5279.
23LamechH3929 saidH559 to his wivesH802, “AdahH5711 and ZillahH6741, ListenH8085 to my voiceH6963, You wivesH802 of LamechH3929, PayH238 attentionH238 to my wordsH565, 35For I have killedH2026 a manH376 for woundingH6482 me; And a boyH3206 for strikingH2250 me!24IfH3588 CainH7014 is avengedH5358 36seven timesH7659, Then LamechH3929 seventy-seven timesH7657!”
2537AdamH121 38hadH3045 relationsH3045 with his wifeH802 againH5750; and she gaveH3205 birthH3205 to a sonH1121, and namedH7121H8034 him 39SethH8352, for, she said, “GodH430 40has appointedH7896 me anotherH312 41childH2233 inH8478 placeH8478 ofH8478 AbelH1893, 42becauseH3588 CainH7014 killedH2026 him.” 26To SethH8352 alsoH1571 43a sonH1121 was bornH3205; and he namedH7121H8034 him EnoshH583. ThenH227 people beganH2490 44to callH7121 45upon the nameH8034 of the LordH3068.
