Genesis 2
(Exodus 16:22–30; Hebrews 4:1–11)
Thus the heavensH8064 and the earthH776 were completedH3615 in allH3605 their vast arrayH6635. 2And by the seventhH7637 dayH3117 GodH430 had finishedH3615 the workH4399 He had been doingH6213; so onH7637 that dayH3117 He restedH7673 from allH3605 His workH4399H834H6213.1
Then GodH430 blessedH1288 the seventhH7637 dayH3117 and sanctifiedH6942 itH853, becauseH3588 on that day He restedH7673 from allH3605 the workH4399 of creationH1254 thatH834 He had accomplishedH6213.
Man and Woman in the Garden
ThisH428 is the accountH8435 of the heavensH8064 and the earthH776 when they were createdH1254, in the dayH3117 that the LORDH30682 GodH430 madeH6213 them.
NowH3605 no shrubH7880 of the fieldH7704 had yetH2962 appearedH1961 on the earthH776, nor had anyH3605 plantH6212 of the fieldH7704 sproutedH6779, forH3588 the LORDH3068 GodH430 had notH3808 yet sent rainH4305 uponH5921 the earthH776, and there was noH369 manH120 to cultivateH5647 the groundH127. 6But springsH1083 welled upH5927 fromH4480 the earthH776 and wateredH8248 the wholeH3605 surfaceH6440 of the groundH127.
Then the LORDH3068 GodH430 formedH3335 manH120 from the dustH6083 ofH4480 the groundH127 and breathedH5301 the breathH5397 of lifeH2416 into his nostrilsH639, and the manH120 becameH1961 a livingH2416 beingH5315.4
And the LORDH3068 GodH430 plantedH5193 a gardenH1588 in EdenH5731, in the eastH6924, whereH8033 He placedH7760 the manH120 He had formedH3335. 9OutH4480 of the groundH127 the LORDH3068 GodH430 gave growthH6779 to everyH3605 treeH6086 that is pleasingH2530 to the eyeH4758 and goodH2896 for foodH3978. And in the middleH8432 of the gardenH1588 were the treeH6086 of lifeH2416 and the treeH6086 of the knowledgeH1847 of goodH2896 and evilH7451.
Now a riverH5104 flowed outH3318 of EdenH5731 to waterH8248 the gardenH1588, and from thereH8033 it branched intoH6504H1961 fourH702 headwatersH7218:
The nameH8034 of the firstH259 river is the PishonH6376; itH1931 winds throughH5437 the wholeH3605 landH776 of HavilahH2341, whereH834 thereH8033 is goldH2091. 12And the goldH2091 of thatH1931 landH776 is pureH2896, and bdelliumH916 and onyxH68H7718 are found thereH8033. 13The nameH8034 of the secondH8145 riverH5104 is the GihonH1521; itH1931 winds throughH5437 the wholeH3605 landH776 of CushH3568. 14The nameH8034 of the thirdH7992 riverH5104 is the TigrisH2313; itH1931 runs alongH1980 the east sideH6926 of AssyriaH804. And the fourthH7243 riverH5104 is the EuphratesH6578.
Then the LORDH3068 GodH430 tookH3947 the manH120 and placed himH5117 in the GardenH1588 of EdenH5731 to cultivateH5647 and keep itH8104.
And the LORDH3068 GodH430H5921 commandedH6680 him, “You may eat freelyH398 from everyH3605 treeH6086 of the gardenH1588, 17but you must notH3808 eatH398 fromH4480 the treeH6086 of the knowledgeH1847 of goodH2896 and evilH7451; forH3588 in the dayH3117 that you eatH398 of itH4480, you will surely dieH4191.”
The LORDH3068 GodH430 also saidH559, “It is notH3808 goodH2896 for the manH120 to beH1961 aloneH905. I will makeH6213 for him a suitableH5048 helperH5828.”
And out ofH4480 the groundH127 the LORDH3068 GodH430 formedH3335 everyH3605 beastH2416 of the fieldH7704 and everyH3605 birdH5775 of the airH8064, and He broughtH935 them toH413 the manH120 to seeH7200 whatH4100 he would nameH7121 each oneH3605. And whatever the manH120 calledH7121 each livingH2416 creatureH5315, thatH1931 was its nameH8034. 20The manH120 gaveH7121 namesH8034 to allH3605 the livestockH929, to the birdsH5775 of the airH8064, and to everyH3605 beastH2416 of the fieldH7704. But for AdamH1215 noH3808 suitableH5048 helperH5828 was foundH4672.
So the LORDH3068 GodH430 causedH5307 the manH120 to fall intoH5921 a deep sleepH8639, and while he sleptH3462, He tookH3947 oneH259 of the man’s ribsH67636 and closed upH5462 the areaH8478 with fleshH1320. 22And from the ribH6763 thatH834 the LORDH3068 GodH430 had takenH3947 fromH4480 the manH120, He madeH1129 a womanH802 and brought herH935 toH413 him. 23And the manH120 saidH559:
ForH5921 this reasonH3651 a manH376 will leaveH5800 his fatherH1 andH853 motherH517 and be unitedH1692 to his wifeH802, and they will becomeH1961 oneH259 fleshH1320.7
And the manH120 and his wifeH802 wereH1961 bothH8147 nakedH6174, and they were notH3808 ashamedH954.
