Genesis 17

When AbramH87 wasH1961 ninety-nineH8673H8672 yearsH8141 oldH1121H8141, the LORDH3068 appearedH7200 toH413 himH87 and saidH559H413, “IH589 am GodH410 AlmightyH7706.1 WalkH1980 before MeH6440 and beH1961 blamelessH8549. 2I will establishH5414 My covenantH1285 between Me and youH996, and I will multiplyH7235 youH853 exceedinglyH3966.”

Then AbramH87 fell facedownH5307H5921H6440, and GodH430H559 saidH1696 to himH854, 4“As for MeH589, this isH2009 My covenantH1285 with youH854: You will beH1961 the fatherH1 of manyH1995 nationsH1471. 5NoH3808 longer willH5750 you be calledH7121 AbramH87,2 but your nameH8034 will beH1961 AbrahamH85,3 forH3588 I have made youH5414 a fatherH1 of manyH1995 nationsH1471.4

I will make you exceedinglyH3966 fruitfulH6509; I will makeH5414 nationsH1471 of you, and kingsH4428 will descendH3318 from youH4480.

I will establishH6965 My covenantH1285 as an everlastingH5769 covenantH1285 between Me and youH996 and your descendantsH310H1755 after youH2233, to beH1961 your GodH430 and the God of your descendantsH2233 after youH310.

And to you and your descendantsH2233 I will giveH5414 the landH776 where you are residingH4033—allH3605 the landH776 of CanaanH3667—as an eternalH5769 possessionH272; and I will beH1961 their GodH430.”

The Covenant of Circumcision

GodH430 also saidH559 toH413 AbrahamH85, “YouH859 must keepH8104 My covenantH1285—youH859 and your descendantsH2233 in the generationsH1755 after youH310. 10ThisH2063 is My covenantH1285 withH996 you and your descendantsH2233 after youH310, whichH834 you are to keepH8104: EveryH3605 male among youH2145 must be circumcisedH4135. 11You are to circumciseH4135 the fleshH1320 of your foreskinH6190, and this will beH1961 a signH226 of the covenantH1285 between Me and youH996.

Generation after generationH1755, everyH3605 maleH2145 must be circumcisedH4135 when he is eightH8083 days oldH3117, including those bornH3211 in your householdH1004 and those purchasedH4736H3701 from aH3605H1121 foreignerH5236—even thoseH1931 whoH834 are notH3808 your offspringH2233. 13Whether they are bornH3211 in your householdH1004 or purchasedH4736H3701, they must be circumcisedH4135. My covenantH1285 in your fleshH1320 will beH1961 an everlastingH5769 covenantH1285.

But if any maleH2145 is notH3808 circumcisedH4135, he will be cut offH3772 from his peopleH5971; he has brokenH6565 My covenantH1285.”

Then GodH430 saidH559 toH413 AbrahamH85, “As for SaraiH8297 your wifeH802, do notH3808 callH7121 herH8034 SaraiH8297, forH3588 her nameH8034 is to be SarahH8283.5 16And I will bless herH1288 and will surelyH1571 giveH5414 you a sonH1121 by herH4480. I will bless herH1288, and she will beH1961 the mother of nationsH1471; kingsH4428 of peoplesH5971 will descendH1961 from herH4480.”

AbrahamH85 fell facedownH5307H5921H6440. Then he laughedH6711 and saidH559 to himselfH3820, “Can a child be bornH3205H518 to a man who isH1121 a hundredH3967 years oldH8141? Can SarahH8283H1323 give birthH3205 at the age of ninetyH8673H8141?” 18And AbrahamH85 saidH559 toH413 GodH430, “O thatH3863 IshmaelH3458 might liveH2421 under YourH6440 blessing!”

But GodH430 repliedH559, “Your wifeH802 SarahH8283 will indeedH61 bearH3205 you a sonH1121, and you are to nameH7121 himH8034 IsaacH3327.6 I will establishH6965 My covenantH1285 with himH854 as an everlastingH5769 covenantH1285 for his descendantsH2233 after himH310. 20As for IshmaelH3458, I have heard youH8085, and I will surelyH2009 blessH1288 himH853; I will make him fruitfulH6509 and multiplyH7235 himH853 greatlyH3966. He will become the fatherH3205 of twelveH8147H6240 rulersH5387, and I will make himH5414 into a greatH1419 nationH1471. 21ButH853 I will establishH6965 My covenantH1285 withH854 IsaacH3327, whomH834 SarahH8283 will bearH3205 to you at thisH2088 timeH4150 nextH312 yearH8141.”

When He had finishedH3615 speakingH1696 withH854 Abraham, GodH430 went upH5927 fromH5921 him.

On thatH2088 veryH6106 dayH3117 AbrahamH85 tookH3947 his sonH1121 IshmaelH3458 and allH3605 those bornH3211 in his householdH1004 or purchasedH4736 with his moneyH3701H3605—everyH3605 maleH2145 among the membersH582 of Abraham’sH85 householdH1004—and he circumcised themH4135H853H1320H6190, just asH834 GodH430 had toldH1696 himH854.

So AbrahamH85 was ninety-nineH8673H8672 years oldH1121H8141 when he was circumcisedH1320H6190H4135, 25and his sonH1121 IshmaelH3458 was thirteenH7969H6240H1121H8141; 26AbrahamH85 and his sonH1121 IshmaelH3458 were circumcisedH4135 on theH2088 sameH6106 dayH3117. 27And allH3605 the menH582 of Abraham’s householdH1004—both servants bornH3211 in his householdH1004 and those purchasedH4736H3701H854 from foreignersH1121H5236—were circumcised with himH4135.
