Jeremiah 48
Revised Version 1895
1Of MoabH4124. ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: WoeH1945 unto NeboH5015! for it is laid wasteH7703; KiriathaimH7156 is put to shame, it is takenH3920: Misgab is put to shame and broken downH3588. 2The praiseH8416 of MoabH4124 is noH369 moreH5750; in HeshbonH2809 they have devisedH2803 evilH7451 againstH5921 herH5921, Come, and let usH5921 cutH3772 herH5921 offH3772 from beingH3772 a nationH1471. Thou also, O MadmenH4086, shalt be brought to silence; the swordH2719 shall pursueH310 thee. 3The soundH6963 of a cryH6818 from HoronaimH2773, spoiling and greatH1419 destructionH7667! 4MoabH4124 is destroyed; herH8085 littleH6810 onesH6810 have caused a cryH2201 to be heardH8085. 5For by the ascentH4608 of LuhithH3872 with continualH1065 weepingH1065 shall they goH5927 upH5927; for in the goingH5927 downH3588 of HoronaimH2773 they have heardH8085 the distressH6862 of the cryH6818 of destructionH7667. 6FleeH5127, saveH4422 your livesH5315, and be like the heath in the wildernessH4057. 7For, becauseH3588 thou hast trustedH982 in thy worksH4639 and in thy treasuresH214, thou also shalt be takenH3920: and ChemoshH3645 shall goH3318 forthH3318 intoH3318 captivity, his priestsH3548 and his princesH8269 togetherH3162. 8And the spoiler shall comeH935 uponH935 everyH3605 cityH5892, and noH3808 cityH5892 shall escapeH4422; the valleyH6010 also shall perishH6, and the plainH4334 shall be destroyedH8045; as the LORDH3068 hath spokenH559. 9GiveH5414 wings unto MoabH4124, that sheH3588 may fly and getH3318 herH5414 awayH3318: and herH5414 citiesH5892 shall becomeH1961 a desolationH8047, withoutH369 anyH369 to dwellH3427 therein. 10CursedH779 be he that doeth the workH4399 of the LORDH3068 negligently, and cursedH779 be he that keepeth backH4513 his swordH2719 from bloodH1818. 11MoabH4124 hath been at easeH7599 from his youthH5271, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath notH3808 been emptied from vesselH3627 to vesselH3627, neitherH3808 hath he goneH1980 intoH413 captivity: therefore his tasteH2940 remaineth in him, and his scent is notH3808 changedH4171. 12Therefore, beholdH2009, the daysH3117 comeH935, saith the LORDH3068, that I will sendH7971 unto him them that pour offH7971, and they shall pour him offH7971; and they shall empty his vesselsH3627, and break their bottles in pieces. 13And MoabH4124 shall be ashamedH954 of ChemoshH3645, as the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 was ashamedH954 of Beth-el their confidenceH4009. 14HowH349 sayH559 ye, WeH587 are mightyH1368 menH376, and valiantH2428 menH376 for the warH4421? 15MoabH4124 is laid wasteH7703, and they are goneH5927 upH5927 intoH3381 herH3381 citiesH5892; and his chosen youngH970 menH970 are goneH5927 downH3381 to the slaughterH2874, saith the KingH4428, whoseH8034 nameH8034 is the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635. 16The calamityH343 of MoabH4124 is nearH7138 to comeH935, and his affliction hasteth fast. 17AllH3605 ye that are roundH5439 aboutH5439 him, bemoan him, and allH3605 ye that knowH3045 his nameH8034; sayH559, HowH349 is the strongH5797 staffH4294 brokenH7665, the beautifulH8597 rodH4294! 18O thou daughterH1323 that dwellest in DibonH1769, comeH5927 downH3381 from thy gloryH3519, and sitH3427 in thirstH6772; for the spoiler of MoabH4124 is comeH5927 upH5927 againstH5927 thee, he hath destroyedH7843 thy strong holds. 19O inhabitantH3427 of AroerH6177, standH5975 by the wayH1870, and espy: askH7592 him that fleeth, and herH413 that escapeth; sayH559, WhatH4100 hath been doneH1961? 20MoabH4124 is put to shame; for it is broken downH3588: howlH3213 and cryH2199; tellH5046 ye it in ArnonH769, that MoabH4124 is laid wasteH7703. 21And judgmentH4941 is comeH935 uponH5921 the plainH4334 countryH776; uponH5921 HolonH2473, and uponH5921 JahzahH3096, and uponH5921 MephaathH4158; 22and uponH5921 DibonH1769, and uponH5921 NeboH5015, and uponH5921 Beth-diblathaimH1015; 23and uponH5921 KiriathaimH7156, and uponH5921 Beth-gamulH1014, and uponH5921 Beth-meonH1010; 24and uponH5921 KeriothH7152, and uponH5921 BozrahH1224, and uponH5921 allH3605 the citiesH5892 of the landH776 of MoabH4124, farH7350 or nearH7138. 25The hornH7161 of MoabH4124 is cutH1438 offH1438, and his armH2220 is brokenH7665, saith the LORDH3068. 26MakeH1431 ye him drunken; for he magnifiedH1431 himselfH1931 againstH5921 the LORDH3068: and MoabH4124 shall wallowH5606 in his vomitH6892, and he also shall be in derision. 27For was notH3808 IsraelH3478 a derision unto thee? was he foundH4672 among thievesH1590? for as oftenH1767 as thou speakest of him, thou waggest the head. 28O ye inhabitantsH3427 of MoabH4124, leaveH5800 the citiesH5892, and dwellH3427 in the rockH5553; and be like the doveH3123 that maketh herH1961 nestH7931 in the sidesH5676 of the holes mouthH6310. 29WeH8085 have heardH8085 of the prideH1346 of MoabH4124, that he is veryH3966 proudH1343; his loftinessH7312, and his prideH1346, and his arrogancy, and the haughtinessH7312 of his heartH3820. 30I knowH3045 his wrathH5678, saith the LORDH3068, that it is nought; his boastings have wrought nothingH3808. 31Therefore will I howlH3213 for MoabH4124; yea, I will cryH2199 outH2199 for allH3605 MoabH4124: for the menH376 of Kir-heresH7025 shall they mournH5921. 32With moreH5921 thanH5921 the weepingH1065 of JazerH3270 will I weepH1058 for thee, O vineH1612 of SibmahH7643: thy branchesH5189 passedH5674 over the seaH3220, they reachedH5060 evenH5704 to the seaH3220 of JazerH3270: uponH5921 thy summerH7019 fruits and uponH5921 thy vintageH1210 the spoiler is fallenH5307. 33And gladnessH8057 and joyH8057 is takenH622 awayH622, from the fruitfulH3759 fieldH3759 and from the landH776 of MoabH4124; and I have caused wineH3196 to ceaseH7673 from the winepressesH3342: noneH3808 shall treadH1869 with shoutingH1959; the shoutingH1959 shall be noH3808 shoutingH1959. 34From the cryH2201 of HeshbonH2809 evenH1571 unto ElealehH500, evenH1571 unto JahazH3096 have they utteredH5414 their voiceH6963, from ZoarH6820 evenH1571 unto HoronaimH2773, to Eglath-shelishiyah: for the watersH4325 of NimrimH5249 also shall becomeH1961 desolateH4923. 35Moreover I will cause to ceaseH7673 in MoabH4124, saith the LORDH3068, him that offereth in the highH1116 placeH1116, and him that burneth incenseH6999 to his godsH430. 36Therefore mine heartH3820 soundeth for MoabH4124 like pipes, and mine heartH3820 soundeth like pipes for the menH376 of Kir-heresH7025: therefore the abundanceH3502 that he hath gotten is perishedH6. 37For everyH3605 headH7218 is baldH7144, and everyH3605 beardH2206 clipped: uponH5921 allH3605 the handsH3027 are cuttings, and uponH5921 the loinsH4975 sackclothH8242. 38On allH3605 the housetopsH1406 of MoabH4124 and in the streetsH7339 thereof there is lamentationH4553 everyH3605 whereH5921: for I have brokenH7665 MoabH4124 like a vesselH3627 wherein is noH369 pleasureH2656, saith the LORDH3068. 39HowH349 is it broken down! howH349 doH3605 they howlH3213! howH349 hath MoabH4124 turnedH6437 the backH6437 with shameH954! soH1961 shall MoabH4124 becomeH1961 a derision and a dismaying to allH3605 that are roundH5439 aboutH1961 him. 40For thusH3541 saith the LORDH3068: BeholdH2009, he shall flyH1675 as an eagleH5404, and shall spreadH6566 outH413 his wingsH3671 againstH413 MoabH4124. 41KeriothH7152 is takenH3920, and the strongH1368 holds are surprised, and the heartH3820 of the mightyH1368 menH1368 of MoabH4124 at that dayH3117 shall be as the heartH3820 of a womanH802 in herH802 pangs. 42And MoabH4124 shall be destroyedH8045 from being a peopleH5971, becauseH3588 he hath magnifiedH1431 himselfH1431 againstH5921 the LORDH3068. 43FearH6343, and the pitH6354, and the snareH6341, are uponH5921 thee, O inhabitantH3427 of MoabH4124, saith the LORDH3068. 44He that fleeth from the fearH6343 shall fallH5307 intoH413 the pitH6354; and he that getteth upH5927 outH4480 of the pitH6354 shall be takenH3920 in the snareH6341: for I will bringH935 uponH935 herH413, evenH3588 uponH935 MoabH4124, the yearH8141 of their visitation, saith the LORDH3068. 45They that fledH5127 standH5975 without strengthH3581 under the shadowH6738 of HeshbonH2809: for a fireH784 is goneH3318 forthH3318 outH3318 of HeshbonH2809, and a flameH3852 from the midstH996 of SihonH5511, and hath devouredH398 the cornerH6285 of MoabH4124, and the crownH6936 of the headH6936 of the tumultuous onesH1121. 46WoeH188 unto thee, O MoabH4124! the peopleH5971 of ChemoshH3645 is undone: for thy sonsH1121 are takenH3947 awayH3947 captive, and thy daughtersH1323 intoH1323 captivityH7633. 47Yet will I bringH7725 againH7725 the captivityH7622 of MoabH4124 in the latterH319 daysH3117, saith the LORDH3068. ThusH2008 farH5704 is the judgmentH4941 of MoabH4124.
