Jeremiah 42
Revised Version 1895
1Then allH3605 the captainsH8269 of the forcesH2428, and JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and JezaniahH3153 the sonH1121 of HoshaiahH1955, and allH3605 the peopleH5971 from the least evenH5704 unto the greatestH1419, cameH5066 nearH5066, 2and saidH559 unto JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030, LetH4994, weH3588 prayH6419 thee, our supplicationH8467 be accepted beforeH6440 thee, and prayH6419 for usH4994 unto the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, evenH5704 for allH3605 this remnantH7611; for weH3588 are leftH7604 but a fewH4592 of manyH7235, as thine eyesH5869 doH3605 beholdH7200 usH4994: 3that the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 may shew usH5046 the wayH1870 whereinH834 weH834 should walkH1870, and the thingH1697 that weH834 should doH6213. 4Then JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 saidH559 unto them, I have heardH8085 youH834; beholdH2005, I will prayH6419 unto the LORDH3068 your GodH430 accordingH413 to your wordsH1697; and it shall comeH1961 to passH1961 that whatsoeverH3605 thingH1697 the LORDH3068 shall answerH6030 youH834, I will declareH5046 it unto youH834; I will keepH4513 nothingH3808 backH4513 from youH834. 5Then they saidH559 to JeremiahH3414, The LORDH3068 be a trueH571 and faithfulH539 witnessH5707 amongst usH413, ifH518 weH834 doH6213 notH3808 evenH3808 accordingH413 to allH3605 the wordH1697 wherewith the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 shall sendH7971 thee to usH413. 6WhetherH518 it be goodH2896, or whetherH518 it be evilH7451, weH3588 will obeyH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 our GodH430, to whomH834 weH3588 sendH7971 thee; that it may be wellH3190 with usH413, when weH3588 obeyH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 our GodH430. 7And it cameH1961 to passH1961 afterH7093 tenH6235 daysH3117, that the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 unto JeremiahH3414. 8Then calledH7121 he JohananH3110 the sonH1121 of KareahH7143, and allH3605 the captainsH8269 of the forcesH2428 whichH834 were with him, and allH3605 the peopleH5971 from the least evenH5704 to the greatestH1419, 9and saidH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, unto whomH834 ye sentH7971 meH413 to presentH5307 your supplicationH8467 beforeH6440 him: 10IfH518 ye will stillH7725 abideH3427 in this landH776, then will I buildH1129 youH834, and notH3808 pullH2040 youH834 downH3427, and I will plantH5193 youH834, and notH3808 pluckH5428 youH834 upH1129: for I repentH7725 meH413 of the evilH7451 that I have doneH6213 unto youH834. 11Be notH408 afraidH3372 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, of whomH834 ye are afraidH3372; be notH408 afraidH3372 of him, saith the LORDH3068: for I am with youH859 to saveH3467 youH859, and to deliverH5337 youH859 from his handH3027. 12And I will grantH5414 youH5414 mercyH7355, that he may have mercyH7355 uponH413 youH5414, and causeH5414 youH5414 to returnH7725 to your own landH127. 13But ifH518 ye sayH559, WeH518 will notH3808 dwellH3427 in this landH776; soH3808 that ye obeyH8085 notH3808 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430; 14sayingH559, NoH3808; but weH3588 will goH935 intoH935 the landH776 of EgyptH4714, whereH834 weH3588 shall seeH7200 noH3808 warH4421, norH3808 hearH8085 the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, norH3808 have hungerH7456 of breadH3899; and there will weH3588 dwellH3427: 15nowH6258 therefore hearH8085 ye the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, O remnantH7611 of JudahH3063: thusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, IfH518 ye wholly setH7760 your facesH6440 to enterH935 intoH935 EgyptH4714, and goH935 to sojourn there; 16then it shall comeH1961 to passH1961, that the swordH2719, whichH834 ye feel shall overtakeH5381 youH859 there in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and the famineH7458, whereof ye are afraidH3372, shall followH310 hard afterH310 youH859 there in EgyptH4714; and there ye shall dieH4191. 17SoH1961 shall it be with allH3605 the menH376 that setH7760 their facesH6440 to goH935 intoH935 EgyptH4714 to sojourn there; they shall dieH4191 by the swordH2719, by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698: and noneH3808 of them shall remainH1961 or escapeH6412 from the evilH7451 that I will bringH935 uponH5921 them. 18For thusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478; As mine angerH639 and my furyH2534 hath been pouredH5413 forth uponH5921 the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, soH3651 shall my furyH2534 be pouredH5413 forth uponH5921 youH834, when ye shall enterH935 intoH935 EgyptH4714: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curseH7045, and a reproachH2781; and ye shall seeH7200 this placeH4725 noH3808 moreH5750. 19The LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696 concerning youH3588, O remnantH7611 of JudahH3063, GoH935 ye notH408 intoH935 EgyptH4714: knowH3045 certainlyH3588 that I have testifiedH5749 unto youH3588 this dayH3117. 20For ye have dealt deceitfully againstH413 your ownH5315 soulsH5315; for ye sentH7971 meH413 unto the LORDH3068 your GodH430, sayingH559, PrayH6419 for usH413 unto the LORDH3068 our GodH430; and accordingH413 unto allH3605 that the LORDH3068 our GodH430 shall sayH559, soH3651 declareH5046 unto usH413, and weH3588 will doH6213 it: 21and I have this dayH3117 declaredH5046 it to youH834; but ye have notH3808 obeyedH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430 in anyH3605 thingH3605 for the whichH834 he hath sentH7971 meH413 unto youH834. 22NowH6258 therefore knowH3045 certainlyH3588 that ye shall dieH4191 by the swordH2719, by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698, in the placeH4725 whither ye desireH2654 to goH935 to sojourn there.
