Luke 23:20-31

20But PilateΠιλᾶτοςPilatosG4091,wantingθέλωνthelōnG2309to releaseἀπολῦσαιapolusaiG630JesusἸησοῦν.IēsounG2424,addressedπροσεφώνησενprosephōnēsenG4377them againΠάλινPalinG3825,

21but they kept on cryingἐπεφώνουνepephōnounG2019outG2019,sayingλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “CrucifyσταύρουstaurouG4717,crucifyσταύρουstaurouG4717Him!”

22And he saidG3004to them a thirdτρίτονtritonG5154timeG5154, “WhyγὰρgarG1063,whatτίtiG5101has thisG3778Manοὗτος;houtosG3778doneἐποίησενepoiēsenG4160wrongκακὸνkakonG2556?I have foundεὗρονheuronG2147in His case noοὐδὲνoudenG3762groundsαἴτιονaitionG159for a sentence ofdeathθανάτουthanatouG2288;thereforeοὖνounG3767I willpunishπαιδεύσαςpaideusasG3811Him and releaseἀπολύσω.apolusōG630Him.”

23But they were insistentἐπέκειντοepekeintoG1945,with loudμεγάλαιςmegalaisG3173voicesφωναῖςphōnaisG5456,demandingαἰτούμενοιaitoumenoiG154that He be crucifiedσταυρωθῆναι,staurōthēnaiG4717.And their voicesφωναὶphōnaiG5456beganto prevailκατίσχυονkatischuonG2729.

24And soPilateΠιλᾶτοςPilatosG4091decidedἐπέκρινενepekrinenG1948to have their demandαἴτημαaitēmaG155carriedG1096outG1096.

25And he releasedἀπέλυσενapelusenG630the manG3588for whomὃνhonG3739they were askingᾐτοῦντο·ētountoG154,who had been thrownβεβλημένονbeblēmenonG906into prisonφυλακὴνphulakēnG5438for a revoltστάσινstasinG4714and murderφόνονphononG5408;but he handedG3860JesusἸησοῦνIēsounG2424overG3860to their willθελήματιthelēmatiG2307.

26And whenὡςhōsG5613they ledG520Him awayἀπήγαγονapēgagonG520,they seizedἐπιλαβόμενοιepilabomenoiG1949a manτιναtinaG5100,SimonΣίμωνάSimōnaG4613ofG2956CyreneΚυρηναῖονKurēnaionG2956,as he was comingἐρχόμενονerchomenonG2064in from the countryἀγροῦagrouG68,and placedG2007onG2007him the crossσταυρὸνstauronG4716to carryφέρεινphereinG5342behindὄπισθενopisthenG3693JesusἸησοῦ.¶IēsouG2424.

27NowδὲdeG1161followingἨκολούθειĒkoloutheiG190Him was a largeπολὺpoluG4183crowdπλῆθοςplēthosG4128of the peopleλαοῦlaouG2992,and of womenγυναικῶνgunaikōnG1135whoαἳhaiG3739weremourningἐκόπτοντοekoptontoG2875and grievingἐθρήνουνethrēnounG2354for Him.

28But JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424turnedστραφεὶςstrapheisG4762to them and saidG3004,“DaughtersθυγατέρεςthugateresG2364of JerusalemἸερουσαλήμ,IerousalēmG2419,stopμὴmēG3361weepingκλαίετεklaieteG2799for Me, but weepκλαίετεklaieteG2799for yourselvesἑαυτὰςhe'autasG1438and for your childrenτέκναteknaG5043.

29For beholdἰδοὺidouG2400,daysἡμέραιhēmeraiG2250are comingἔρχονταιerchontaiG2064whenἐνenG1722 G3739they will sayG3004, ‘BlessedμακάριαιmakariaiG3107are thoseG3588who cannotG4723bearG4723,and the wombsκοιλίαιkoiliaiG2836that have not givenG1080birthG1080,and the breastsμαστοὶmastoiG3149that have not nursedἔθρεψαν.ethrepsanG5142.’

30ThenτότεtoteG5119they will beginἄρξονταιarxontaiG757tosayλέγεινlegeinG3004to the mountainsὄρεσιν·oresinG3735, ‘FallπέσετεpeseteG4098on us,’ and to the hillsβουνοῖς·bounoisG1015, ‘CoverκαλύψατεkalupsateG2572us.’

31For ifεἰeiG1487they doποιοῦσιν,poiousinG4160theseG3778thingsταῦταtautaG3778whenἐνenG1722the treeξύλῳxulōG3586is greenὑγρῷhugrōG5200,whatτίtiG5101will happenγένηται;¶genētaiG1096whenἐνenG1722it is dryξηρῷxērōG3584?”
