Birth of Isaac Promised
1Now 1the LordH3068 appearedH7200 to him by the 23oaksH436 of MamreH4471, while he was sittingH3427 at the tentH168 doorH6607 in the heatH2527 of the dayH3117. 2When he liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 and lookedH7200, beholdH2009, threeH7969 4menH376 were standingH5324 oppositeH5921 him; and when he sawH7200 them, he ranH7323 from the tentH168 doorH6607 to meetH7122 them and bowedH7812 himself to the earthH776, 3and saidH559, “5My LordH113, ifH518 nowH4994 I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in Your sightH5869, pleaseH4994 do not 6passH5674 Your servantH5650 by. 4PleaseH4994 let a littleH4592 waterH4325 be broughtH3947 and 7washH7364 your feetH7272, and 8restH8172 yourselvesH8172 underH8478 the treeH6086; 5and I will 910bringH3947 a pieceH6595 of breadH3899, that you may 11refreshH5582 yourselvesH3820; afterH310 that you may goH5674 on, sinceH3588H5921H3651 you have 12visitedH5674 your servantH5650.” And they saidH559, “SoH3651 doH6213, as you have saidH1696.” 6So AbrahamH85 hurriedH4116 into the tentH168 to SarahH8283, and saidH559, “13QuicklyH4116, prepareH4116 threeH7969 14measuresH5429 of fineH5560 flourH7058H5560, kneadH3888 it and makeH6213 breadH5692 cakesH5692.” 7AbrahamH85 also ranH7323 to the herdH1241, and tookH3947 a tenderH7390 and 15choiceH2896 calfH1121H1241 and gaveH5414 it to the servantH5288, and he hurriedH4116 to prepareH6213 it. 8He tookH3947 curdsH2529 and milkH2461 and the calfH1121H1241 whichH834 he had preparedH6213, and placedH5414 it beforeH6440 them; and he was standingH5975 by them underH8478 the treeH6086 16as they ateH398.
9Then they saidH559 to him, “WhereH335 is SarahH8283 your wifeH802?” And he saidH559, “ThereH2009, in the tentH168.” 10He saidH559, “17I will surelyH7725 returnH7725 to you 18at this timeH6256 nextH2416 yearH2416; and beholdH2009, SarahH8283 your wifeH802 will have a sonH1121.” And SarahH8283 was listeningH8085 at the tentH168 doorH6607, whichH1931 was behindH310 him. 11Now 19AbrahamH85 and SarahH8283 were oldH2205, advancedH935 in ageH3117; SarahH8283 was 20pastH2308 21childbearingH734H802. 12SarahH8283 laughedH6711 22to herselfH7130, sayingH559, “23AfterH310 I have becomeH1086 oldH1086, shall I haveH1961 pleasureH5734, my 24lordH113 beingH2204 oldH2204 also?” 13And the LordH3068 saidH559 to AbrahamH85, “WhyH4100 did SarahH8283 laughH6711, sayingH559, ‘Shall I indeedH637H552 25bearH3205 a child, when I amH2204 so oldH2204?’ 1426Is anythingH1697 tooH4480 27difficultH6381 for the LordH3068? At the 28appointedH4150 timeH4150 I will returnH7725 to you, 29at thisH2416 timeH6256 nextH2416 yearH2416, and SarahH8283 will have a sonH1121.” 15SarahH8283 deniedH3584 it however, sayingH559, “I did not laughH6711”; for she was afraidH3372. And He saidH559, “NoH3808, but you did laughH6711.”
16Then 30the menH376 roseH6965 up from thereH8033, and lookedH8259 downH8259 towardH5921H6440 SodomH5467; and AbrahamH85 was walkingH1980 with them to sendH7971 them off. 1731The LordH3068 saidH559, “Shall I hideH3680 from AbrahamH85 32whatH834 I am about to doH6213, 18since AbrahamH85 will surelyH1961 becomeH1961 a greatH1419 and 33mightyH6099 nationH1471, and in him 34allH3605 the nationsH1471 of the earthH776 will be blessedH1288? 19For I have 3536chosenH3045 him, soH4616 that he may 37commandH6680 his childrenH1121 and his householdH1004 afterH310 him to 38keepH8104 the wayH1870 of the LordH3068 by doingH6213 righteousnessH6666 and justiceH4941, soH4616 that the LordH3068 may bringH935 upon AbrahamH85 39whatH834 He has spokenH1696 aboutH5921 him.” 20And the LordH3068 saidH559, “40The outcryH2201 of SodomH5467 and GomorrahH6017 is indeedH3588 greatH7231, and their sinH2403 is exceedinglyH3966 graveH3513. 21I will 41goH3381 downH3381 nowH4994, and seeH7200 if they have doneH6213 entirelyH3617 according to its outcryH6818, which has comeH935 to Me; and ifH518 not, I will knowH3045.”
22Then 42the menH376 turnedH6437 awayH6437 from thereH8033 and wentH1980 toward SodomH5467, while AbrahamH85 was stillH5750 standingH5975 beforeH6440 43the LordH3068. 23AbrahamH85 cameH5066 nearH5066 and saidH559, “44Will You indeedH637 sweepH5595 awayH5595 the righteousH6662 with the wickedH7563? 24SupposeH194 thereH3426 are fiftyH2572 righteousH6662 withinH8432 the cityH5892; will You indeedH637 sweepH5595 it awayH5595 and not 45spareH5375 the placeH4725 for the sakeH4616 of the fiftyH2572 righteousH6662 whoH834 are in it? 25FarH2486 be it from You to doH6213 46suchH2088 a thingH1697, to slayH4191 the righteousH6662 with the wickedH7563, so that the righteousH6662 and the wickedH7563 are treated alike. FarH2486 be it from You! Shall not 47the JudgeH8199 of allH3605 the earthH776 48dealH6213 justlyH4941?” 26So the LordH3068 saidH559, “49IfH518 I findH4672 in SodomH5467 fiftyH2572 righteousH6662 withinH8432 the cityH5892, then I will 50spareH5375 the wholeH3605 placeH4725 on their accountH5668.” 27And AbrahamH85 repliedH6030, “NowH4994 beholdH2009, I have 51venturedH2974 to speakH1696 to the LordH136, although I am but 52dustH6083 and ashesH665. 28SupposeH194 the fiftyH2572 righteousH6662 are lackingH2637 fiveH2568, will You destroyH7843 the wholeH3605 cityH5892 because of fiveH2568?” And He saidH559, “I will not destroyH7843 it ifH518 I findH4672 forty-fiveH705H2568 thereH8033.” 29He spokeH1696 to Him yetH5750 againH3254 and saidH559, “SupposeH194 fortyH705 are foundH4672 thereH8033?” And He saidH559, “I will not doH6213 it on accountH5668 of the fortyH705.” 30Then he saidH559, “OhH4994 mayH4994 the LordH136 not be angryH2734, and I shall speakH1696; supposeH194 thirtyH7970 are foundH4672 thereH8033?” And He saidH559, “I will not doH6213 it ifH518 I findH4672 thirtyH7970 thereH8033.” 31And he saidH559, “NowH4994 beholdH2009, I have 53venturedH2974 to speakH1696 to the LordH136; supposeH194 twentyH6242 are foundH4672 thereH8033?” And He saidH559, “I will not destroyH7843 it on accountH5668 of the twentyH6242.” 32Then he saidH559, “54OhH4994 mayH4994 the LordH136 not be angryH2734, and I shall speakH1696 onlyH389 thisH6471 onceH6471; supposeH194 tenH6235 are foundH4672 thereH8033?” And He saidH559, “I will not destroyH7843 it on accountH5668 of the tenH6235.” 33As soonH3512 as He had finishedH3615 speakingH1696 to AbrahamH85 55the LordH3068 departedH1980, and AbrahamH85 returnedH7725 to his placeH4725.
