The Creation of Man and Woman

1Thus the heavensH8064 and the earthH776 were completedH3615, and allH3605 1their hostsH6635. 2By 2the seventhH7637 dayH3117 GodH430 completedH3615 His workH4399 whichH834 He had doneH6213, and 3He restedH7673 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117 from allH3605 His workH4399 whichH834 He had doneH6213. 3Then GodH430 blessedH1288 the seventhH7637 dayH3117 and sanctifiedH6942 it, becauseH3588 in it He restedH7673 from allH3605 His workH4399 whichH834 GodH430 had createdH1254 4and madeH6213.

456ThisH428 is the accountH8435 of the heavensH8064 and the earthH776 when they were createdH1254, in 7the dayH3117 that the LordH3068 GodH430 madeH6213 earthH776 and heavenH8064. 58Now noH2962H3605 shrubH7880 of the fieldH7704 was yetH2962 in the earthH776, and noH2962H3605 plantH6212 of the fieldH7704 had yetH2962 sproutedH6779, 9for the LordH3068 GodH430 had not sentH4305 rainH4305 upon the earthH776, and there was noH369 manH120 to 10cultivateH5647 the groundH127. 6But a 11mistH108 used to riseH5927 from the earthH776 and waterH8248 the wholeH3605 12surfaceH6440 of the groundH127. 7Then the LordH3068 GodH430 formedH3335 manH120 of 13dustH6083 from the groundH127, and breathedH5301 into his nostrilsH639 the breathH5397 of lifeH2425; and 14manH120 becameH1961 a livingH2416 15beingH5315. 8The LordH3068 GodH430 plantedH5193 a 16gardenH1588 towardH4480 the eastH6924, in EdenH5731; and thereH8033 He placedH7760 the manH120 whomH834 He had formedH3335. 9Out of the groundH127 the LordH3068 GodH430 caused to growH6779 17everyH3605 treeH6086 that is pleasingH2530 to the sightH4758 and goodH2896 for foodH3978; 18the treeH6086 of lifeH2425 also in the midstH8432 of the gardenH1588, and the treeH6086 of the knowledgeH1847 of goodH2896 and evilH7451.

10Now a 19riverH5104 20flowedH3318 out of EdenH5731 to waterH8248 the gardenH1588; and from thereH8033 it dividedH6504 and becameH1961 fourH702 21riversH7218. 11The nameH8034 of the firstH259 is PishonH6376; it 22flowsH5437 aroundH5437 the wholeH3605 landH776 of 23HavilahH2341, whereH834H8033 thereH8033 is goldH2091. 12The goldH2091 of that landH776 is goodH2896; the bdelliumH916 and the onyxH7718 stoneH68 are thereH8033. 13The nameH8034 of the secondH8145 riverH5104 is GihonH1521; it 24flowsH5437 aroundH5437 the wholeH3605 landH776 of CushH3568. 14The nameH8034 of the thirdH7992 riverH5104 is 2526TigrisH2313; it 27flowsH1980 eastH6926 of AssyriaH804. And the fourthH7243 riverH5104 is the 2829EuphratesH6578.

15Then the LordH3068 GodH430 tookH3947 the manH120 and putH5117 him into the gardenH1588 of EdenH5731 to cultivateH5647 it and keepH8104 it. 16The LordH3068 GodH430 30commandedH6680 the manH120, sayingH559, “From anyH3605 treeH6086 of the gardenH1588 you may eatH398 freelyH398; 17but from the treeH6086 of the knowledgeH1847 of goodH2896 and evilH7451 you shall not 31eatH398, for in the dayH3117 that you eatH398 from it 32you will surelyH4191 dieH4191.”

18Then the LordH3068 GodH430 saidH559, “It is not goodH2896 for the manH120 to be aloneH905; 33I will makeH6213 him a helperH5828 34suitableH5048 for him.” 1935Out of the groundH127 the LordH3068 GodH430 formedH3335 everyH3605 beastH2421 of the fieldH7704 and everyH3605 birdH5775 of the 36skyH8064, and 37broughtH935 them to the manH120 to seeH7200 whatH4100 he would callH7121 them; and whateverH3605H834 the manH120 calledH7121 a livingH2416 creatureH5315, that was its nameH8034. 20The manH120 gaveH7121 namesH8034 to allH3605 the cattleH929, and to the birdsH5775 of the 38skyH8064, and to everyH3605 beastH2421 of the fieldH7704, but for 39AdamH121 there was not foundH4672 40a helperH5828 41suitableH5048 for him. 21So the LordH3068 GodH430 caused a 42deepH8639 sleepH8639 to fallH5307 upon the manH120, and he sleptH3462; then He tookH3947 oneH259 of his ribsH6763 and closedH5462 up the fleshH1320 at that placeH8478. 22The LordH3068 GodH430 43fashionedH1129 into a womanH802 44the ribH6763 whichH834 He had takenH3947 from the manH120, and broughtH935 her to the manH120. 23The manH120 saidH559, “45ThisH2088 is nowH6471 boneH6106 of my bonesH6106, And fleshH1320 of my fleshH1320; 46She shall be calledH7121 47WomanH802, BecauseH3588 48she was takenH3947 out of 49ManH376.” 2450For thisH3651 reasonH5921H3651 a manH376 shall leaveH5800 his fatherH1 and his motherH517, and be joinedH1692 to his wifeH802; and they shall becomeH1961 oneH259 fleshH1320. 2551And the manH120 and his wifeH802 were bothH8147 nakedH6174 and were not ashamedH954.
