Jacob Is Sent Away
1So IsaacH3327 calledH7121 JacobH3290 and 1blessedH1288 him and chargedH6680 him, and saidH559 to him, “2You shall not takeH3947 a wifeH802 from the daughtersH1323 of CanaanH3667. 2AriseH6965, goH1980 to Paddan-aramH6307, to the houseH1004 of 3BethuelH1328 your mother’sH517 fatherH1; and from thereH8033 takeH3947 to yourself a wifeH802 from the daughtersH1323 of LabanH3837 your mother’sH517 brotherH251. 3May 45GodH410 AlmightyH7706 6blessH1288 you and 7makeH6509 you fruitfulH6509 and 8multiplyH7235 you, that you may becomeH1961 a 9companyH6951 of peoplesH5971. 4May He also giveH5414 you the 10blessingH1293 of AbrahamH85, to you and to your 11descendantsH2233 with you, that you may 12possessH3423 the landH776 of your 13sojourningsH4033, whichH834 GodH430 gaveH5414 to AbrahamH85.” 5Then 14IsaacH3327 sentH7971 JacobH3290 awayH7971, and he wentH1980 to Paddan-aramH6307 to LabanH3837, sonH1121 of BethuelH1328 the ArameanH761, the brotherH251 of RebekahH7259, the motherH517 of JacobH3290 and EsauH6215.
6Now EsauH6215 sawH7200 that IsaacH3327 had blessedH1288 JacobH3290 and sentH7971 him awayH7971 to Paddan-aramH6307 to takeH3947 to himself a wifeH802 from thereH8033, and that when he blessedH1288 him he chargedH6680 him, sayingH559, “15You shall not takeH3947 a wifeH802 from the daughtersH1323 of CanaanH3667,” 7and that JacobH3290 had obeyedH8085 his fatherH1 and his motherH517 and had goneH1980 to Paddan-aramH6307. 8So EsauH6215 sawH7200 that 16the daughtersH1323 of CanaanH3667 displeasedH7451 17his fatherH1 IsaacH3327; 9and EsauH6215 wentH1980 to IshmaelH3458, and 18marriedH3947H802, 19besidesH5921 the wivesH802 that he had, MahalathH4258 the daughterH1323 of IshmaelH3458, Abraham’sH85 sonH1121, the sisterH269 of NebaiothH5032.
Jacob’s Dream
10Then JacobH3290 departedH3318 from 20BeershebaH884 and wentH1980 toward 21HaranH2771. 11He 22cameH6293 to 23a 24certain placeH4725 and spentH3885 the nightH3885 thereH8033, becauseH3588 the sunH8121 had setH935; and he tookH3947 one of the stonesH68 of the placeH4725 and putH7760 it 25under his headH4763, and layH7901 downH7901 in that placeH4725. 1226He hadH2492 a dreamH2492, and beholdH2009, a ladderH5551 was setH5324 on the earthH776 with its topH7218 reachingH5060 to heavenH8064; and beholdH2009, 27the angelsH4397 of GodH430 were ascendingH5927 and descendingH3381 on it. 13And beholdH2009, 28the LordH3068 stoodH5324 29aboveH5921 it and saidH559, “I am the LordH3068, 30the GodH430 of your fatherH1 AbrahamH85 and the GodH430 of IsaacH3327; the landH776 on whichH834 you lieH7901, I will giveH5414 it 31to you and to 32your 33descendantsH2233. 14Your 34descendantsH2233 will also be like 35the dustH6083 of the earthH776, and you will 36spreadH6555 out 37to the westH3220 and to the eastH6924 and to the northH6828 and to the southH5045; and 38in you and in your 39descendantsH2233 shall allH3605 the familiesH4940 of the earthH127 be blessedH1288. 15BeholdH2009, 40I am with you and 41will keepH8104 you whereverH3605H834 you goH1980, and 42will bringH7725 you backH7725 to thisH2088 landH127; for 43I will not leaveH5800 you untilH5704H834 I have doneH6213 whatH834 I have 44promisedH1696 you.” 16Then JacobH3290 45awokeH3364 from his sleepH8142 and saidH559, “46SurelyH403 the LordH3068 is in thisH2088 placeH4725, and I did not knowH3045 it.” 17He was afraidH3372 and saidH559, “47HowH4100 awesomeH3372 is thisH2088 placeH4725! ThisH2088 is noneH369 otherH369 thanH3588H518 the houseH1004 of GodH430, and thisH2088 is the gateH8179 of heavenH8064.”
18So JacobH3290 roseH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and tookH3947 48the stoneH68 that he had putH7760 49under his headH4763 and setH7760 it up as a pillarH4676 and pouredH3332 oilH8081 on its topH7218. 19He calledH7121 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 5051BethelH1008; howeverH199, 52previouslyH7223 the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 had been 53LuzH3870. 20Then JacobH3290 54madeH5087 a vowH5088, sayingH559, “55IfH518 GodH430 will be with me and will keepH8104 me on thisH2088 journeyH1870 that I 56takeH1980, and will giveH5414 me 5758foodH3899 to eatH398 and garmentsH899 to wearH3847, 21and 59I returnH7725 to my father’sH1 houseH1004 in 60safetyH7965, 61then the LordH3068 will be my GodH430. 22ThisH2088 stoneH68, whichH834 I have setH7760 up as a pillarH4676, 62will be God’sH430 houseH1004, and 63of allH3605 that You giveH5414 me I will surelyH6237 giveH6237 a tenthH6237 to You.”
