Jacob Meets Esau
1Then JacobH3290 liftedH5375 his eyesH5869 and lookedH7200, and beholdH2009, 1EsauH6215 was comingH935, and fourH702 hundredH3967 menH376 with him. So he dividedH2673 the childrenH3206 2amongH5921 LeahH3812 and RachelH7354 and the twoH8147 maidsH8198. 2He putH7760 the maidsH8198 and their childrenH3206 3in frontH7223, and LeahH3812 and her childrenH3206 4nextH314, and RachelH7354 and JosephH3130 5lastH314. 3But he himselfH1931 passedH5674 on aheadH6440 of them and 6bowedH7812 downH7812 to the groundH776 sevenH7651 timesH6471, untilH5704 he cameH5066 nearH5066 to his brotherH251.
4Then EsauH6215 ranH7323 to meetH7122 him and embracedH2263 him, and 7fellH5307 on his neckH6677 and kissedH5401 him, and they weptH1058. 5He liftedH5375 his eyesH5869 and sawH7200 the womenH802 and the childrenH3206, and saidH559, “8WhoH4310 are theseH428 with you?” So he saidH559, “9The childrenH3206 whomH834 GodH430 has graciouslyH2603 givenH2603 your servantH5650.” 6Then the maidsH8198 cameH5066 nearH5066 10with their childrenH3206, and they bowedH7812 downH7812. 7LeahH3812 likewiseH1571 cameH5066 nearH5066 with her childrenH3206, and they bowedH7812 downH7812; and afterwardH310 JosephH3130 cameH5066 nearH5066 with RachelH7354, and they bowedH7812 downH7812. 8And he saidH559, “WhatH4310 do you mean by 11allH3605 thisH2088 companyH4264 whichH834 I have metH6298?” And he saidH559, “12To findH4672 favorH2580 in the sightH5869 of my lordH113.” 9But EsauH6215 saidH559, “13I haveH3426 plentyH7227, my brotherH251; let whatH834 you haveH1961 be your own.” 10JacobH3290 saidH559, “NoH408, pleaseH4994, ifH518 nowH4994 I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in your sightH5869, then takeH3947 my presentH4503 from my handH3027, 14for I seeH7200 your faceH6440 as one seesH7200 the faceH6440 of GodH430, and you have receivedH7521 me favorablyH7521. 11PleaseH4994 takeH3947 my 1516giftH1293 whichH834 has been broughtH935 to you, 17becauseH3588 GodH430 has dealtH2603 graciouslyH2603 with me and becauseH3588 I haveH3426 18plentyH3605.” Thus he urgedH6484 him and he tookH3947 it.
12Then 19Esau saidH559, “Let us takeH5265 our journeyH5265 and goH1980, and I will goH1980 beforeH5048 you.” 13But he saidH559 to him, “My lordH113 knowsH3045 that the childrenH3206 are frailH7390 and that the flocksH6629 and herdsH1241 which are nursingH5763 are 20a careH5921 to me. And if they are drivenH1849 hardH1849 oneH259 dayH3117, allH3605 the flocksH6629 will dieH4191. 14PleaseH4994 let my lordH113 passH5674 on beforeH6440 his servantH5650, and I will proceedH5095 at my leisureH328, according to the paceH7272 of the cattleH4399 that are beforeH6440 me and according to the paceH7272 of the childrenH3206, untilH5704H834 I comeH935 to my lordH113 at 21SeirH8165.”
15EsauH6215 saidH559, “PleaseH4994 let me leaveH3322 with you someH4480 of the peopleH5971 whoH834 are with me.” But he saidH559, “22WhatH4100 need is there? 23Let me findH4672 favorH2580 in the sightH5869 of my lordH113.” 16So EsauH6215 returnedH7725 that dayH3117 on his wayH1870 to SeirH8165. 17JacobH3290 journeyedH5265 to 2425SuccothH5523, and builtH1129 for himself a houseH1004 and madeH6213 boothsH5521 for his livestockH4735; thereforeH5921H3651 the placeH4725 is namedH7121H8034 SuccothH5523.
Jacob Settles in Shechem
18Now JacobH3290 cameH935 safelyH8003 to the cityH5892 of 26ShechemH7927, whichH834 is in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, when he cameH935 from 27Paddan-aramH6307, and campedH2583 beforeH6440 the cityH5892. 1928He boughtH7069 the pieceH2513 of landH2513 whereH834H8033 he had pitchedH5186 his tentH168 from the handH3027 of the sonsH1121 of HamorH2544, Shechem’sH7927 fatherH1, for one hundredH3967 29piecesH7192 of moneyH7192. 20Then he erectedH5324 thereH8033 an altarH4196 and calledH7121 it 30El-Elohe-IsraelH415.
