Universal Language, Babel, Confusion
1Now the wholeH3605 earthH776 1usedH1961 the sameH259 languageH8193 and 2the sameH259 wordsH1697. 2It cameH1961 about as they journeyedH5265 eastH6924, that they foundH4672 a plainH1237 in the landH776 3of ShinarH8152 and 4settledH3427 thereH8033. 3They saidH559 to oneH376 anotherH7453, “ComeH3051, let us makeH3835 bricksH3835 and burnH8313 them thoroughlyH8316.” And they usedH1961 brickH3843 for stoneH68, and they usedH1961 5tarH2564 for mortarH2563. 4They saidH559, “ComeH3051, let us buildH1129 for ourselves a cityH5892, and a towerH4026 whose topH7218 6will reach into heavenH8064, and let us makeH6213 for ourselves 7a nameH8034, otherwiseH6435 we 8will be scatteredH6327 abroad overH5921 the faceH6440 of the wholeH3605 earthH776.” 59The LordH3068 cameH3381 downH3381 to seeH7200 the cityH5892 and the towerH4026 whichH834 the sonsH1121 of menH120 had builtH1129. 6The LordH3068 saidH559, “BeholdH2005, they are oneH259 peopleH5971, and they allH3605 have 1011the sameH259 languageH8193. And thisH2088 is what they beganH2490 to doH6213, and nowH6258 nothingH3808H3605 whichH834 they purposeH2161 to doH6213 will be 12impossibleH1219 for them. 7ComeH3051, 13let Us goH3381 downH3381 and thereH8033 14confuseH1101 their 15languageH8193, soH834 that they will not understandH8085 oneH376 another’sH7453 16speechH8193.” 8So the LordH3068 17scatteredH6327 them abroad from thereH8033 overH5921 the faceH6440 of the wholeH3605 earthH776; and they stoppedH2308 buildingH1129 the cityH5892. 9ThereforeH5921H3651 its nameH8034 was calledH7121 1819BabelH894, becauseH3588 thereH8033 the LordH3068 confusedH1101 the 20languageH8193 of the wholeH3605 earthH776; and from thereH8033 the LordH3068 scatteredH6327 them abroad overH5921 the faceH6440 of the wholeH3605 earthH776.
