Isaac’s Sons
19Now theseH428 are the records of 32the generationsH8435 of IsaacH3327, Abraham’sH85 sonH1121: AbrahamH85 33becameH3205 the fatherH3205 of IsaacH3327; 20and IsaacH3327 was fortyH705 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he tookH3947 34RebekahH7259, the 35daughterH1323 of BethuelH1328 the 36ArameanH761 of Paddan-aramH6307, the 37sisterH269 of LabanH3837 the 38ArameanH761, to be his wifeH802. 21IsaacH3327 prayedH6279 to the LordH3068 on behalfH5227 of his wifeH802, becauseH3588 she was barrenH6135; and 39the LordH3068 40answeredH6279 him and RebekahH7259 his wifeH802 41conceivedH2029. 22But the childrenH1121 struggledH7533 together withinH7130 her; and she saidH559, “IfH518 it is soH3651, whyH4100 then am I this way?” So she wentH1980 to 42inquireH1875 of the LordH3068. 23The LordH3068 saidH559 to her, “43TwoH8147 nationsH1471 are in your wombH990; 44And twoH8147 peoplesH3816 will be separatedH6504 from your bodyH4578; And one peopleH3816 shall be strongerH553 thanH4480 the otherH3816; And 45the olderH7227 shall serveH5647 the youngerH6810.” 24When her daysH3117 to be deliveredH3205 were fulfilledH4390, beholdH2009, there were twinsH8420 in her wombH990. 25Now the firstH7223 cameH3318 forthH3318 redH132, 46allH3605 over like a hairyH8181 garmentH155; and they namedH7121H8034 him EsauH6215. 26AfterwardH310 his brotherH251 cameH3318 forthH3318 with 47his handH3027 holdingH270 on to Esau’sH6215 heelH6119, so 48his nameH8034 was calledH7121 49JacobH3290; and IsaacH3327 was 50sixtyH8346 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when she gaveH3205 birthH3205 to them.
27When the boysH5288 grewH1431 up, EsauH6215 becameH1961 a skillfulH3045 hunterH376H6718, a manH376 of the fieldH7704, but JacobH3290 was a 51peacefulH8535 manH376, 5253livingH3427 in tentsH168. 28Now IsaacH3327 lovedH157 EsauH6215, becauseH3588 54he had 55a tasteH6310 for gameH6718, 56but RebekahH7259 lovedH157 JacobH3290. 29When JacobH3290 had cookedH2102 57stewH5138, EsauH6215 cameH935 in from the fieldH7704 and he was 58famishedH5889; 30and EsauH6215 saidH559 to JacobH3290, “PleaseH4994 let me haveH3938 a swallowH3938 of 59that redH122 stuffH123 there, for I am 60famishedH5889.” ThereforeH5921H3651 his nameH8034 was calledH7121 61EdomH112. 31But JacobH3290 saidH559, “62FirstH3117 sellH4376 me your 63birthrightH1062.” 32EsauH6215 saidH559, “BeholdH2009, I amH1980 aboutH1980 to dieH4191; so of whatH4100 use then is the birthrightH1062 to me?” 33And JacobH3290 saidH559, “64FirstH3117 swearH7650 to me”; so he sworeH7650 to him, and 65soldH4376 his birthrightH1062 to JacobH3290. 34Then JacobH3290 gaveH5414 EsauH6215 breadH3899 and lentilH5742 stewH5138; and he ateH398 and drankH8354, and roseH6965 and wentH1980 on his wayH1980. Thus EsauH6215 despisedH959 his birthrightH1062.
