Pharaoh’s Dream
1Now it happenedH1961 at the endH7093 of two fullH3117 yearsH8141 that PharaohH6547 hadH2492 a dreamH2492, and beholdH2009, he was standingH5975 by the NileH2975. 2And loH2009, from the NileH2975 there cameH5927 up sevenH7651 cowsH6510, sleekH3303 and 1fatH1277; and they grazedH7462 in the 2marshH260 grassH260. 3Then beholdH2009, sevenH7651 otherH312 cowsH6510 cameH5927 up afterH310 them from the NileH2975, uglyH7451 and 3gauntH1851H1320, and they stoodH5975 by the other cowsH6510 on the bankH8193 of the NileH2975. 4The uglyH7451 and 4gauntH1851H1320 cowsH6510 ateH398 up the sevenH7651 sleekH3303 and fatH1277 cowsH6510. Then PharaohH6547 awokeH3364. 5He fellH3462 asleepH3462 and dreamedH2492 a secondH8145 timeH8145; and beholdH2009, sevenH7651 earsH7641 of grainH7641 cameH5927 up on a singleH259 stalkH7070, plumpH1277 and goodH2896. 6Then beholdH2009, sevenH7651 earsH7641, thinH1851 and scorchedH7710 by the eastH6921 windH6921, sproutedH6779 up afterH310 them. 7The thinH1851 earsH7641 swallowedH1104 up the sevenH7651 plumpH1277 and fullH4392 earsH7641. Then PharaohH6547 awokeH3364, and beholdH2009, it was a dreamH2472. 8Now in the morningH1242 5his spiritH7307 was troubledH6470, so he sentH7971 and calledH7121 for allH3605 the 67magiciansH2748 of EgyptH4714, and allH3605 its 8wiseH2450 menH2450. And PharaohH6547 toldH5608 them his 9dreamsH2472, but 10thereH369 was noH369 oneH369 who could interpretH6622 them to PharaohH6547.
9Then the chiefH8269 cupbearerH4945 spokeH1696 to PharaohH6547, sayingH559, “I would make mentionH2142 todayH3117 of 11my own 12offensesH2399. 10PharaohH6547 was 13furiousH7107 with his servantsH5650, and 14he putH5414 me in confinementH4929 in the houseH1004 of the captainH8269 of the bodyguardH2876, both me and the chiefH8269 bakerH644. 1115We hadH2492 a dreamH2472 16on the sameH259 nightH3915, 17he and I; eachH376 of us dreamedH2492 according to the interpretationH6623 of his own dreamH2472. 12Now a HebrewH5680 youthH5288 was with us thereH8033, a 18servantH5650 of the captainH8269 of the bodyguardH2876, and we relatedH5608 them to him, and 19he interpretedH6622 our dreamsH2472 for us. To eachH376 oneH376 he interpretedH6622 according to his own dreamH2472. 13And justH3512 20as he interpretedH6622 for us, soH3651 it happenedH1961; he restoredH7725 me in my 21officeH3653, but he hangedH8518 him.”
Joseph Interprets
14Then PharaohH6547 sentH7971 and 22calledH7121 for JosephH3130, and they 23hurriedlyH7323 broughtH7323 him out of the dungeonH953; and when he had shavedH1548 himself and changedH2498 his clothesH8071, he cameH935 to PharaohH6547. 15PharaohH6547 saidH559 to JosephH3130, “I have hadH2492 a dreamH2472, 24but noH369 oneH369 can interpretH6622 it; and 25I have heardH8085 26it saidH559 aboutH5921 you, that 27when you hearH8085 a dreamH2472 you can interpretH6622 it.” 16JosephH3130 then answeredH6030 PharaohH6547, sayingH559, “2829It is not in me; 30GodH430 will 31giveH6030 PharaohH6547 a favorableH7965 answerH6030.” 17So PharaohH6547 spokeH1696 to JosephH3130, “In my dreamH2472, beholdH2009, I was standingH5975 on the bankH8193 of the NileH2975; 18and beholdH2009, sevenH7651 cowsH6510, 32fatH1277 and sleekH3303 cameH5927 up out of the NileH2975, and they grazedH7462 in the marshH260 grassH260. 19LoH2009, sevenH7651 otherH312 cowsH6510 cameH5927 up afterH310 them, poorH1800 and veryH3966 uglyH7451 and 33gauntH7534H1320, suchH2007 as I had neverH3808 seenH7200 for 34uglinessH7455 in allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714; 20and the leanH7534 and 35uglyH7451 cowsH6510 ateH398 up the firstH7223 sevenH7651 fatH1277 cowsH6510. 21Yet when they had 36devouredH935H7130 them, it could not be 37detectedH3045 that they had 38devouredH935H7130 them, 39for they were justH3512 as uglyH7451 as 40beforeH8462. Then I awokeH3364. 22I sawH7200 also in my dreamH2472, and beholdH2009, sevenH7651 earsH7641, fullH4392 and goodH2896, cameH5927 up on a singleH259 stalkH7070; 23and loH2009, sevenH7651 earsH7641, witheredH6798, thinH1851, and scorchedH7710 by the eastH6921 windH6921, sproutedH6779 up afterH310 them; 24and the thinH1851 earsH7641 swallowedH1104 the sevenH7651 goodH2896 earsH7641. Then 41I toldH559 it to the 42magiciansH2748, but thereH369 was noH369 oneH369 who could explainH5046 it to me.”
25Now JosephH3130 saidH559 to PharaohH6547, “Pharaoh’sH6547 43dreamsH2472 are oneH259 and the same; 44GodH430 has toldH5046 to PharaohH6547 whatH853H834 He is about to doH6213. 26The sevenH7651 goodH2896 cowsH6510 are sevenH7651 yearsH8141; and the sevenH7651 goodH2896 earsH7641 are sevenH7651 yearsH8141; the 45dreamsH2472 are oneH259 and the same. 27The sevenH7651 leanH7534 and uglyH7451 cowsH6510 that cameH5927 up afterH310 them are sevenH7651 yearsH8141, and the sevenH7651 thinH7534 earsH7641 scorchedH7710 by the eastH6921 windH6921 46will be sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of famineH7458. 2847It is as I have spokenH1696 to PharaohH6547: 48GodH430 has shownH7200 to PharaohH6547 whatH834 He is about to doH6213. 29BeholdH2009, 49sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of greatH1419 abundanceH7647 are comingH935 in allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714; 30and afterH310 them 50sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of famineH7458 will 51comeH6965, and allH3605 the abundanceH7647 will be forgottenH7911 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and the famineH7458 will 52ravageH3615 the landH776. 31So the abundanceH7647 will be unknownH3045H3808 in the landH776 becauseH4480H6440 of that subsequentH310 famineH7458; for it will be veryH3966 severeH3515. 32Now as for the repeatingH8138 of the dreamH2472 to PharaohH6547 twiceH6471, it means that 53the matterH1697 is determinedH3559 by GodH430, and GodH430 will quicklyH4116 bringH6213 it aboutH6213. 33NowH6258 let PharaohH6547 lookH7200 for a manH376 54discerningH995 and wiseH2450, and setH7896 him overH5921 the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 34Let PharaohH6547 takeH6213 actionH6213 to appointH6485 overseersH6496 55in chargeH5921 of the landH776, and let him exactH2567 a fifthH2567 of the produce of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 in the sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of abundanceH7647. 35Then let them 56gatherH6908 allH3605 the foodH3978 of theseH428 goodH2896 yearsH8141 that are comingH935, and storeH6651 up the grainH1250 for foodH400 in the citiesH5892 underH8478 Pharaoh’sH6547 authorityH3027, and let them guardH8104 it. 36Let the foodH400 becomeH1961 as a reserveH6487 for the landH776 for the sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of famineH7458 whichH834 will occurH1961 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, so that the landH776 will not perishH3772 during the famineH7458.”
37Now the 57proposalH1697 seemedH3190 goodH3190 58to PharaohH6547 and 59to allH3605 his servantsH5650.
Joseph Is Made a Ruler of Egypt
38Then PharaohH6547 saidH559 to his servantsH5650, “Can we findH4672 a manH376 like thisH2088, 60in whomH834 is a divineH430 spiritH7307?” 39So PharaohH6547 saidH559 to JosephH3130, “SinceH310 GodH430 has informedH3045 you of allH3605 thisH2088, thereH369 is noH369 oneH369 so 61discerningH995 and wiseH2450 as you are. 4062You shall be overH5921 my houseH1004, and accordingH5921 to your 63commandH6310 allH3605 my peopleH5971 shall 64doH5401 homageH5401; onlyH7534 in the throneH3678 I will be greaterH1431 thanH4480 you.” 41PharaohH6547 saidH559 to JosephH3130, “SeeH7200, I have setH5414 you 65overH5921 allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714.” 42Then PharaohH6547 66tookH5493 offH5493 his signetH2885 ringH2885 from his handH3027 and putH5414 it on Joseph’sH3130 handH3027, and clothedH3847 him in garmentsH899 of fineH8336 linenH8336 and 67putH7760 the goldH2091 necklaceH7242 aroundH5921 his neckH6677. 43He had him rideH7392 in 68his secondH4932 chariotH4818; and they proclaimedH7121 beforeH6440 him, “69BowH86 the kneeH86!” And he setH5414 him overH5921 allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 44Moreover, PharaohH6547 saidH559 to JosephH3130, “Though I am PharaohH6547, yet 70withoutH1107 71your permission noH3808 oneH376 shall raiseH7311 his handH3027 or footH7272 in allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714.” 45Then PharaohH6547 namedH7121H8034 JosephH3130 72Zaphenath-paneahH6847; and he gaveH5414 him AsenathH621, the daughterH1323 of PotipheraH6319 priestH3548 of 7374OnH204, as his wifeH802. And JosephH3130 wentH3318 forthH3318 overH5921 the landH776 of EgyptH4714.
46Now JosephH3130 was 75thirtyH7970 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he 76stoodH5975 beforeH6440 PharaohH6547, kingH4428 of EgyptH4714. And JosephH3130 wentH3318 out from the presenceH6440 of PharaohH6547 and wentH5674 throughH5674 allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 47During the sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of plentyH7647 the landH776 broughtH6213 forthH6213 77abundantlyH7062. 48So he gatheredH6908 allH3605 the foodH400 of these sevenH7651 yearsH8141 whichH834 occurredH1961 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714 and placedH5414 the foodH400 in the citiesH5892; he placedH5414 in every cityH5892 the foodH400 from its own surroundingH5439 fieldsH7704. 49Thus JosephH3130 storedH6651 up grainH1250 78in greatH3966 abundanceH3966 like the sandH2344 of the seaH3220, untilH5704H3588 he stoppedH2308 79measuringH5608 it, for it was 80beyondH369 measureH4557.
The Sons of Joseph
50Now beforeH2962 the yearH8141 of famineH7458 cameH935, 81twoH8147 sonsH1121 were bornH3205 to JosephH3130, whomH834 AsenathH621, the daughterH1323 of PotipheraH6319 priestH3548 of 82OnH204, boreH3205 to him. 51JosephH3130 namedH7121H8034 the firstbornH1060 83ManassehH4519, “For,” he said, “GodH430 has made me forgetH5382 allH3605 my troubleH5999 and allH3605 my father’sH1 householdH1004.” 52He namedH7121H8034 the secondH8145 84EphraimH669, “For,” he said, “85GodH430 has madeH6509 me fruitfulH6509 in the landH776 of my afflictionH6040.”
53When the sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of plentyH7647 whichH834 had beenH1961 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714 cameH3615 to an endH3615, 54and 86the sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of famineH7458 beganH2490 to comeH935, justH3512 as JosephH3130 had saidH559, then there was famineH7458 in allH3605 the landsH776, but in allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 there was breadH3899. 55So when allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 was famishedH7456, the peopleH5971 criedH6817 out to PharaohH6547 for breadH3899; and PharaohH6547 saidH559 to allH3605 the EgyptiansH4714, “GoH1980 to JosephH3130; 87whateverH834 he saysH559 to you, you shall doH6213.” 56When the famineH7458 was spread overH5921 allH3605 the faceH6440 of the earthH776, then JosephH3130 openedH6605 allH3605 88the storehousesH834, and soldH7666 to the EgyptiansH4714; and the famineH7458 was severeH2388 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 57The people of allH3605 the earthH776 cameH935 to EgyptH4714 to buyH7666 grainH7666 from JosephH3130, becauseH3588 89the famineH7458 was severeH2388 in allH3605 the earthH776.
