2 Kings 12

Darby Bible

1In the seventh yearH8141 of Jehu, JehoashH3060 began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 forty yearsH8141 in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba. 2And JehoashH3060 did what was right in the sight of Jehovah, all the days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 3Only, the high places were not removed: the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. 4And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the hallowed things that is brought into the house of Jehovah, the money of every one that passes [the account], the money at which every man is valued, [and] all the money that comes into any man's heart to bring into the house of Jehovah, 5let the priestsH3548 take it, every manH376 of his acquaintance; and let them repair the breaches of the houseH1004, wherever any breach is found. 6And it was [so that] in the twenty-third year of king Jehoash, the priestsH3548 had not repairedH2388 the breaches of the houseH1004. 7Then kingH4428 JehoashH3060 called for Jehoiada the priestH3548, and the priestsH3548, and said to them, Why have ye not repairedH2388 the breaches of the houseH1004? And now receive no money of your acquaintances, but give it for the breaches of the houseH1004. 8And the priestsH3548 consented to receiveH3947 no moneyH3701 of the people, and that they should only repairH2388 the breaches of the houseH1004. 9And Jehoiada the priestH3548 tookH3947 a chest, and bored a hole in the lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the houseH1004 of Jehovah; and the priestsH3548 that kept the door put into it all the moneyH3701 brought into the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 10And it cameH935 to pass when they saw that there was much moneyH3701 in the chestH727, that the king's scribe and the high priestH3548 cameH935 up, and they tied up and counted the moneyH3701 that was found in the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 11And they gave the moneyH3701, weighed out into the hands of them that did the work, who wereH1961 appointedH4487 over the houseH1004 of Jehovah; and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders that wrought upon the houseH1004 of Jehovah, 12and to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the breaches of the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and for all that had to be laid out on the houseH1004 for repairs. 13However there were not madeH2388 for the houseH1004 of Jehovah basons of silver, knives, bowls, trumpets, nor any utensil of gold or utensil of silver, of the money that was broughtH3318 [into] the houseH1004 of Jehovah; 14but they gave that to the workmen, and repaired the houseH1004 of Jehovah with it. 15And they did not reckon with the men into whose hand they gaveH5414 the money to be bestowed on workmen; for they dealt faithfully. 16The moneyH3701 of trespass-offerings, and the moneyH3701 of sin-offerings, was not brought into the house of Jehovah: it was for the priests. 17Then Hazael king of Syria wentH935 up, and fought against Gath, and took it. And Hazael set his face to goH935 up against Jerusalem. 18And Jehoash kingH4428 of Judah tookH3920 all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kingsH4428 of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold found in the treasures of the house of Jehovah and in the king's house, and sent it to HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria; and he wentH5927 away from JerusalemH3389. 19And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063? 20And his servants rose up and madeH6213 a conspiracy, and smote JoashH3101 in the house of Millo, at the descent of Silla. 21And Jozachar the son of Shimeath and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servantsH5650, smote him and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
