2 Kings 7

Darby Bible

1And ElishaH477 saidH559, HearH8085 the wordH1697 of Jehovah. ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: To-morrow about this timeH6256 shall the measure of fineH5560 flourH5560 be at a shekelH8255, and two measures of barleyH8184 at a shekelH8255, in the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111. 2And the captain on whose handH3027 the kingH4428 leanedH8172 answered the manH376 of 1GodH430 and saidH559, Behold, if Jehovah should makeH6213 windowsH699 in the heavensH8064, would this thingH1697 beH1961? And he saidH559, Behold, thou shalt seeH7200 it with thine eyesH5869, but shalt not eatH398 thereof. 3And there wereH1961 fourH702 leprousH6879 menH376 at the entranceH6607 of the gateH8179, and they saidH559 oneH376 to another, WhyH4100 do we abide hereH6311 until we dieH4191? 4If we sayH559, Let us enter into the cityH5892, the famineH7458 is in the cityH5892, and we shall dieH4191 there; and if we abide hereH6311, we shall dieH4191. And nowH6258 comeH935, let us fallH5307 away to the campH4264 of the Syrians: if they save us aliveH2421, we shall live; and if they putH4191 us to deathH4191, we shall but dieH4191. 5And they roseH6965 up in the dusk to goH935 to the campH4264 of the Syrians; and they cameH935 to the extremity of the campH4264 of the Syrians; and behold, there was no manH376 there. 6For the LordH136 had madeH8085 the armyH2428 of the Syrians to hearH8085 a noise of chariotsH7393, and a noise of horsesH5483, a noise of a greatH1419 host; and they saidH559 oneH376 to another, Behold, the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 has hiredH7936 against us the kingsH4428 of the HittitesH2850, and the kingsH4428 of the Egyptians, to comeH935 upon us. 7And they roseH6965 up and fledH5127 in the dusk, and leftH5800 their tentsH168, and their horsesH5483, and their asses, the campH4264 as it was, and fledH5127 for their lifeH5315. 8And those lepers cameH935 to the extremity of the campH4264; and they wentH935 into oneH259 tentH168, and ateH398 and drankH8354, and carriedH5375 thence silverH3701 and goldH2091, and garmentsH899, and wentH935 and hidH2934 it; and they cameH935 again, and entered into another tentH168, and carriedH5375 thence, and wentH935 and hidH2934 [it]. 9And they saidH559 oneH376 to another, We are not doing rightH3651; this dayH3117 is a dayH3117 of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morningH1242 lightH216, the iniquityH5771 will findH4672 us out; and nowH6258 comeH935, let us goH935 and tellH5046 the king's householdH1004. 10And they cameH935 and calledH7121 to the porters of the cityH5892, and toldH5046 them sayingH559, We cameH935 to the campH4264 of the Syrians, and behold, there was no oneH376 there, no soundH6963 of manH376, but the horsesH5483 tied, and the asses tied, and the tentsH168 as they were. 11And the porters cried [it] and toldH5046 [it] to the king's houseH1004 within. 12And the kingH4428 roseH6965 up in the nightH3915 and saidH559 to his servantsH5650, Let me tellH5046 you what the Syrians have done to us. They knowH3045 that we are hungryH7457, and they have goneH3318 out of the campH4264 to hideH2247 themselves in the fieldH7704, sayingH559, When they comeH935 out of the cityH5892, we shall catch them aliveH2416, and get into the cityH5892. 13And oneH259 of his servantsH5650 answered and saidH559, Let some oneH259 takeH3947, I pray thee, fiveH2568 of the horsesH5483 that remainH7604, which are leftH7604 in the city (behold, they are as all the multitudeH1995 of IsraelH3478 that are leftH7604 in it: behold, they are even as all the multitudeH1995 of the Israelites that have perished), and let us sendH7971 and seeH7200. 14And they tookH3947 twoH8147 chariotsH7393 with their horsesH5483; and the kingH4428 sentH7971 after the armyH4264 of the Syrians, sayingH559, GoH7971 and seeH7200. 15And they wentH7725 after them to the JordanH3383; and behold, all the wayH1870 was fullH4392 of garmentsH899 and materials, which the Syrians had castH7993 awayH7725 in their haste. And the messengersH4397 returnedH7725 and toldH5046 the kingH4428. 16And the peopleH5971 wentH3318 out and plunderedH962 the campH4264 of the Syrians; and the measure of fineH5560 flourH5560 wasH1961 at a shekelH8255, and two measures of barleyH8184 at a shekelH8255, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah. 17And the kingH4428 had appointedH6485 the captain on whose handH3027 he leanedH8172 to have the charge of the gateH8179; and the peopleH5971 trampledH7429 upon him in the gateH8179, and he diedH4191, according to what the manH376 of 2GodH430 had saidH1696, — what he had saidH1696 whenH834 the kingH4428 cameH3381 downH3381 to him. 18And it came to pass as the manH376 of 3GodH430 had spokenH1696 to the kingH4428 sayingH559, Two measures of barleyH8184 shall beH1961 at a shekelH8255, and the measure of fineH5560 flourH5560 at a shekelH8255, to-morrow about this timeH6256 in the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111. 19And the captain answered the manH376 of 4GodH430 and saidH559, Behold, if Jehovah should makeH6213 windowsH699 in the heavensH8064, would such a thingH1697 beH1961? And he saidH559, Behold, thou shalt seeH7200 it with thine eyesH5869, but shalt not eatH398 thereof. 20And so it happened to him; and the peopleH5971 trampledH7429 upon him in the gateH8179, and he diedH4191.
