Darby Bible

1And it came to pass when Jehovah would take up ElijahH452 into the heavensH8064 by a whirlwind, that ElijahH452 wentH5927 with ElishaH477 from GilgalH1537. 2And ElijahH452 saidH559 to ElishaH477, Abide hereH6311, I pray thee; for Jehovah has sentH7971 me to Bethel. And ElishaH477 saidH559, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soulH5315 liveth, I will not leaveH5800 thee! So they wentH3381 downH3381 to Bethel. 3And the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 that were at Bethel cameH3318 forthH3318 to ElishaH477, and saidH559 to him, Dost thou knowH3045 that Jehovah will takeH3947 awayH3947 thy masterH113 from over thy headH7218 to-day? And he saidH559, I alsoH1571 knowH3045 it: be silentH2814! 4And ElijahH452 saidH559 to him, ElishaH477, abide hereH6311, I pray thee; for Jehovah has sentH7971 me to JerichoH3405. And he saidH559, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soulH5315 liveth, I will not leaveH5800 thee! And they cameH935 to JerichoH3405. 5And the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 that were at JerichoH3405 drewH5066 near to ElishaH477 and saidH559 to him, Dost thou knowH3045 that Jehovah will takeH3947 awayH3947 thy masterH113 from over thy headH7218 to-day? And he saidH559, I alsoH1571 knowH3045 it: be silentH2814! 6And ElijahH452 saidH559 to him, Abide hereH6311, I pray thee; for Jehovah has sentH7971 me to the JordanH3383. And he saidH559, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soulH5315 liveth, I will not leaveH5800 thee! And they twoH8147 went on. 7And fiftyH2572 menH376 of the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 wentH1980 and stoodH5975 opposite afarH7350 off; and they twoH8147 stoodH5975 by the JordanH3383. 8And ElijahH452 tookH3947 his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the watersH4325, and they were dividedH2673 hither and thither; and they twoH8147 went over on dryH2724 groundH2724. 9And it came to passH5674 when they had gone over, that ElijahH452 saidH559 to ElishaH477, AskH7592 what I shall do for thee, before I amH1961 takenH3947 awayH3947 from thee. And ElishaH477 saidH559, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spiritH7307 beH1961 upon me. 10And he saidH559, Thou hast askedH7592 a hardH7185 thing: if thou seeH7200 me when I amH1961 takenH3947 from thee, it shall beH1961 soH3651 to thee; but if not, it shall not beH1961 [soH3651]. 11And it came to pass as they wentH1980 on, and talked, that behold, a chariotH7393 of fireH784 and horsesH5483 of fireH784; and they parted them both asunder; and ElijahH452 wentH1980 up by a whirlwind into the heavensH8064. 12And ElishaH477 sawH7200 [it], and he criedH6817, My fatherH1, my fatherH1! the chariotH7393 of IsraelH3478 and the horsemenH6571 thereof! And he sawH7200 him no more. Then he tookH2388 holdH2388 of his own garmentsH899 and rent them in twoH8147 pieces. 13And he took up the mantle of ElijahH452 which fellH5307 from him, and wentH7725 backH7725 and stoodH5975 by the bankH8193 of the JordanH3383; 14and he tookH3947 the mantle of ElijahH452 which had fallenH5307 from him, and smote the watersH4325, and saidH559, WhereH834 is Jehovah, the 1GodH430 of ElijahH452? He alsoH637 smote the watersH4325, and they parted hither and thither, and ElishaH477 went over. 15And the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 who were at JerichoH3405 on the opposite sideH7307 sawH7200 him, and they saidH559, The spiritH7307 of ElijahH452 restsH5117 on ElishaH477. And they cameH935 to meet him, and bowedH7812 themselves to the groundH776 before him, 16and saidH559 to him, Behold now, there are with thy servantsH5650 fiftyH2572 valiant menH376; let them goH7971, we pray thee, and seekH1245 thy masterH113, lestH6435 perhaps the SpiritH7307 of Jehovah have takenH5375 him up, and castH7993 him upon some mountainH2022, or into some ravine. And he saidH559, Ye shall not sendH7971. 17And they pressed him till he was ashamedH954, and he saidH559, SendH7971. They sentH7971 therefore fiftyH2572 menH376, and they soughtH1245 threeH7969 daysH3117, but did not findH4672 him. 18And they came again to him (now he was staying at JerichoH3405); and he saidH559 to them, Did I not sayH559 to you, GoH7725 not? 19And the menH376 of the cityH5892 saidH559 to ElishaH477, Behold now, the situation of the cityH5892 is goodH2896, as my lordH113 seesH7200; but the waterH4325 is badH7451, and the landH776 is barren. 20And he saidH559, Bring me a newH2319 cruse, and putH7760 saltH4417 in it. And they brought it to him. 21And he wentH3318 forthH3318 to the source of the watersH4325, and castH7993 the saltH4417 in there, and saidH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: I have healedH7495 these watersH4325: there shall not beH1961 from thence any more deathH4194 or barrenness. 22And the watersH4325 were healedH7495 to this dayH3117, according to the saying of ElishaH477 which he spokeH1696. 23And he wentH3318 up from thence to Bethel, and as he wentH3318 up by the wayH1870, there cameH3318 forthH3318 littleH6996 boys out of the cityH5892, and mocked him, and saidH559 to him, GoH3318 up, baldH7142 head; goH3318 up, baldH7142 head! 24And he turnedH6437 backH6437, and lookedH7200 on them, and cursedH7043 them in the nameH8034 of Jehovah. And there cameH3318 forthH3318 twoH8147 she-bears out of the wood, and tore forty-two childrenH3206 of them. 25And he wentH7725 from thence to mount CarmelH3760, and from thence he returnedH7725 to SamariaH8111.
