2 Kings 3
Darby Bible
1And JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 began to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111 in the eighteenth yearH8141 of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063; and he reignedH4427 twelve yearsH8141. 2And he wrought evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, but not like his fatherH1, and like his motherH517; and he took awayH5493 the column of BaalH1168 that his fatherH1 had madeH6213. 3OnlyH7535, he clave to the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028 who made IsraelH3478 to sinH2398: he did not departH5493 therefrom. 4And Mesha kingH4428 of MoabH4124 wasH1961 a sheepmaster, and rendered to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 a hundredH3967 thousandH505 lambsH3733 and a hundredH3967 thousandH505 ramsH352, with the woolH6785. 5And it came to pass when AhabH256 wasH1961 dead, that the kingH4428 of MoabH4124 rebelledH6586 against the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 6And at that time kingH4428 JehoramH3088 wentH3318 out of SamariaH8111 and inspected all IsraelH3478. 7And he wentH5927 and sentH7971 to JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 sayingH559, The kingH4428 of MoabH4124 has rebelledH6586 against me: wilt thou goH5927 with me against MoabH4124 to battleH4421? And he saidH559, I will goH5927 up: I am as thou, my peopleH5971 as thy peopleH5971, my horsesH5483 as thy horsesH5483. 8And he saidH559, Which wayH1870 shall we goH5927 up? And he saidH559, By wayH1870 of the wildernessH4057 of EdomH123. 9And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 wentH5437, and the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and the kingH4428 of EdomH123, and they made a circuit of sevenH7651 days' journeyH1870. And there wasH1961 no waterH4325 for the armyH4264, and for the cattleH929 that followed them. 10And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559, AlasH162! that Jehovah has calledH7121 these threeH7969 kingsH4428 together, to giveH5414 them into the handH3027 of MoabH4124! 11And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, Is there not hereH6311 a prophetH5030 of Jehovah that we may inquire of Jehovah by him? And oneH259 of the kingH4428 of Israel's servantsH5650 answered and saidH559, HereH6311 is ElishaH477 the sonH1121 of ShaphatH8202, who pouredH3332 waterH4325 on the handsH3027 of ElijahH452. 12And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, The wordH1697 of Jehovah is with him. And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 and the kingH4428 of EdomH123 wentH3381 downH3381 to him. 13And ElishaH477 saidH559 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, What have I to do with thee? go to the prophetsH5030 of thy fatherH1 and to the prophetsH5030 of thy motherH517. And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 to him, Not so, for Jehovah has calledH7121 these threeH7969 kingsH4428 to giveH5414 them into the handH3027 of MoabH4124. 14And ElishaH477 saidH559, As Jehovah of hostsH6635 liveth, before whom I standH5975, surely, were it not that I regard the presenceH6440 of JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, I would not lookH7200 toward thee nor seeH7200 thee. 15And nowH6258 fetch me a minstrel. And it came to pass when the minstrel playedH5059, that the handH3027 of Jehovah wasH1961 upon him. 16And he saidH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: MakeH6213 this valley full of ditches. 17For thusH3541 saith Jehovah: Ye shall not seeH7200 windH7307, neither shall ye seeH7200 rainH1653; yet this valley shall be filledH4390 with waterH4325, and ye shall drinkH8354, both ye, and your cattleH929, and your beasts. 18And this is a light thingH7043 in the sight of Jehovah: he will giveH5414 the Moabites also into your handH3027. 19And ye shall smite every fortified cityH5892, and every choiceH4004 cityH5892, and shall fellH5307 every goodH2896 treeH6086, and stopH5640 all wells of waterH4325, and mar every goodH2896 piece of landH2513 with stonesH68. 20And it cameH935 to pass in the morningH1242, when the oblation wasH1961 offeredH5927 up, that behold, there cameH935 waterH4325 by the wayH1870 of EdomH123, and the country wasH1961 filledH4390 with waterH4325. 21And all the Moabites heardH8085 that the kingsH4428 were comeH5927 up to fightH3898 against them, and they were called together, all that were able to put on armour, and upwardH4605, and stoodH5975 by the borderH1366. 22And they roseH7925 up earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and the sunH8121 roseH7925 upon the waterH4325, and the Moabites sawH7200 the waterH4325 on the other side redH122 as bloodH1818. 23And they saidH559, This is bloodH1818: the kingsH4428 are entirely destroyed, and have smitten oneH376 another; and nowH6258, MoabH4124, to the spoilH7998! 24And when they cameH935 to the campH4264 of IsraelH3478, the Israelites roseH6965 up and smote the Moabites, and they fledH5127 before them; and they entered in and smote MoabH4124. 25And they beat down the citiesH5892, and on every goodH2896 piece of landH2513 castH7993 every manH376 his stoneH68 and filledH4390 it, and they stoppedH5640 every well of waterH4325, and felledH5307 every goodH2896 treeH6086, until they leftH7604 [only] the stonesH68 at Kirhareseth; and the slingers wentH5437 about it, and smote it. 26And the kingH4428 of MoabH4124 sawH7200 that the battleH4421 was too severeH2388 for him, and he tookH3947 with him sevenH7651 hundredH3967 menH376 that drewH8025 swordsH2719, to breakH1234 through to the kingH4428 of EdomH123, but they could not. 27And he tookH3947 his eldest sonH1121, that should have reignedH4427 in his stead, and offeredH5927 him up for a burnt-offering upon the wallH2346. And there wasH1961 greatH1419 wrathH7110 against IsraelH3478; and they departedH5265 from him, and returnedH7725 to [their own] landH776.
