2 Kings 14
Darby Bible
1In the second yearH8141 of JoashH3101 sonH1121 of JehoahazH3099, kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, began AmaziahH558 the sonH1121 of JoashH3101, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, to reignH4427. 2He was twenty-five yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 twenty-nine yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389; and his mother's nameH8034 was JehoaddanH3086 of JerusalemH3389. 3And he did what was rightH3477 in the sight of Jehovah, yet not like DavidH1732 his fatherH1: he did according to all that JoashH3101 his fatherH1 had done. 4OnlyH7535, the highH1116 placesH1116 were not removedH5493: the peopleH5971 stillH5750 sacrificedH2076 and burned incenseH6999 on the highH1116 placesH1116. 5And it came to pass when the kingdomH4467 wasH1961 established in his handH3027, that he slew his servantsH5650 who had smitten the kingH4428 his fatherH1. 6But the children of those that smote [him] he did not putH4191 to deathH4191; according to that which is writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the lawH8451 of MosesH4872, wherein Jehovah commandedH6680 sayingH559, The fathersH1 shall not be putH4191 to deathH4191 for the children, neither shall the children be putH4191 to deathH4191 for the fathersH1; but every manH376 shall be putH4191 to deathH4191 for his own sinH2399. 7He smote of EdomH123 in the valleyH1516 of saltH4417 tenH6235 thousandH505, and took SelaH5554 in the warH4421, and calledH7121 the nameH8034 of it JoktheelH3371 to this dayH3117. 8ThenH227 AmaziahH558 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to JehoashH3060 the sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059, sonH1121 of JehuH3058, kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, Come, let us lookH7200 one another in the faceH6440. 9And JehoashH3060 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 sentH7971 to AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, sayingH559, The thorn-bush that is in LebanonH3844 sentH7971 to the cedarH730 that is in LebanonH3844, sayingH559, GiveH5414 thy daughterH1323 to my sonH1121 as wifeH802; and there passedH5674 by the wild beast that is in LebanonH3844, and trode down the thorn-bush. 10Thou hast indeed smitten EdomH123, and thy heartH3820 has liftedH5375 thee up: boast thyself, and abide at home; for whyH4100 shouldest thou contend with misfortune, that thou shouldest fallH5307, thou, and JudahH3063 with thee? 11But AmaziahH558 would not hearH8085. And JehoashH3060 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 wentH5927 up; and they lookedH7200 one another in the faceH6440, he and AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, at Beth-shemeshH1053, which is in JudahH3063. 12And JudahH3063 was routed before IsraelH3478; and they fledH5127 every manH376 to his tentH168. 13And JehoashH3060 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 took AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, the sonH1121 of JehoashH3060 sonH1121 of AhaziahH274, at Beth-shemeshH1053, and cameH935 to JerusalemH3389, and brokeH6555 down the wallH2346 of JerusalemH3389 from the gateH8179 of EphraimH669 to the corner-gate, fourH702 hundredH3967 cubitsH520. 14And he tookH3947 all the goldH2091 and the silverH3701, and all the vesselsH3627 that were foundH4672 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, and in the treasuresH214 of the king's houseH1004, and hostages, and returnedH7725 to SamariaH8111. 15And the restH3499 of the acts of JehoashH3060, what he did, and his might, and how he foughtH3898 with AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 16And JehoashH3060 slept with his fathersH1, and was buriedH6912 in SamariaH8111 with the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478; and JeroboamH3379 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead. 17And AmaziahH558 the sonH1121 of Joash kingH4428 of JudahH3063 livedH2421 after the deathH4194 of JehoashH3060 sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059, kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, fifteen yearsH8141. 18And the restH3499 of the acts of AmaziahH558, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063? 19And they made a conspiracyH7195 against him in JerusalemH3389; and he fledH5127 to LachishH3923; and they sentH7971 after him to LachishH3923, and slew him there. 20And they brought him on horsesH5483, and he was buriedH6912 at JerusalemH3389 with his fathersH1, in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 21And all the peopleH5971 of JudahH3063 tookH3947 AzariahH5838, who was sixteen yearsH8141 old, and made him kingH4427 instead of his fatherH1 AmaziahH558. 22It was he that builtH1129 ElathH359, and restoredH7725 it to JudahH3063, after the kingH4428 slept with his fathersH1. 23In the fifteenth yearH8141 of AmaziahH558 the sonH1121 of JoashH3101, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of JoashH3101, kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, began to reignH4427 in SamariaH8111, for forty-one yearsH8141. 24And he did evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah: he departedH5493 not from any of the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, who madeH6213 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398. 25He restoredH7725 the borderH1366 of IsraelH3478 from the entrance of HamathH2574 as far as the seaH3220 of the plainH6160, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478, which he had spokenH1696 through his servantH5650 JonahH3124 the prophetH5030, the sonH1121 of AmittaiH573, who was of Gath-HepherH1662. 26For Jehovah sawH7200 that the affliction of IsraelH3478 was veryH3966 bitter; and that there was not any shutH6113 up, nor any leftH5800, nor any helperH5826 for IsraelH3478. 27And Jehovah had not saidH1696 that he would blot out the nameH8034 of IsraelH3478 from under the heavensH8064; and he savedH3467 them by the handH3027 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of JoashH3101. 28And the restH3499 of the acts of JeroboamH3379, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered for IsraelH3478 that [which had belonged] to JudahH3063 in DamascusH1834 and in HamathH2574, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 29And JeroboamH3379 slept with his fathersH1, with the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478; and ZechariahH2148 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
