2 Kings 10

1Now AhabH256 had seventyH7657 sonsH1121 in SamariaH8111. And JehuH3058 wroteH3789 lettersH5612, and sentH7971 to SamariaH8111, to the princesH8269 of Jizreel, to the eldersH2205, and to Ahab's guardiansH539, sayingH559, 2And nowH6258, when this letterH5612 comesH935 to you, seeing your master's sonsH1121 are with you, and there are with you chariotsH7393, and horsesH5483, and a fortified cityH5892, and armour, 3lookH7200 out the bestH2896 and worthiest of your master's sonsH1121, and setH7760 him on his father's throneH3678, and fightH3898 for your master's houseH1004. 4And they were exceedinglyH3966 afraidH3372, and saidH559, Behold, the twoH8147 kingsH4428 stoodH5975 not before him; and howH349 shall we standH5975? 5And he that was over the houseH1004, and he that was over the cityH5892, and the eldersH2205, and the guardiansH539 sentH7971 to JehuH3058, sayingH559, We are thy servantsH5650, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not makeH6213 any oneH376 kingH4427; do what is goodH2896 in thy sight. 6And he wroteH3789 a letterH5612 the secondH8145 timeH6256 to them sayingH559, If ye are mine, and will hearken to my voiceH6963, takeH3947 the headsH7218 of the menH376 your master's sonsH1121, and comeH935 to me to Jizreel to-morrow at this timeH6256. Now the king's sonsH1121, seventyH7657 personsH376, were with the greatH1419 menH376 of the cityH5892, who broughtH935 them up. 7And it cameH935 to pass when the letterH5612 cameH935 to them, that they tookH3947 the king's sonsH1121, and slaughteredH7819 seventyH7657 personsH376, and putH7760 their headsH7218 in basketsH1731, and sentH7971 them to him to Jizreel. 8And a messengerH4397 cameH935 and toldH5046 him sayingH559, They have broughtH935 the headsH7218 of the king's sonsH1121. And he saidH559, Lay them in twoH8147 heaps at the entranceH6607 of the gateH8179 until the morningH1242. 9And it came to pass in the morningH1242 that he wentH3318 out; and he stoodH5975, and saidH559 to all the peopleH5971, Ye are righteousH6662! behold, I conspired against my masterH113 and killedH2026 him; but who smote all these? 10KnowH3045 now that nothing shall fallH5307 to the earthH776 of the wordH1697 of Jehovah, which Jehovah spokeH1696 concerning the houseH1004 of AhabH256; for Jehovah has done that which he saidH1696 through his servantH5650 ElijahH452. 11And JehuH3058 slew all that remainedH7604 of the houseH1004 of AhabH256 in Jizreel, and all his greatH1419 men, and his acquaintances, and his priestsH3548, until he leftH7604 him none remainingH7604. 12And he roseH6965 up and departed, and cameH935 to SamariaH8111. And as he was at the shepherds' meeting-place on the wayH1870, 13JehuH3058 foundH4672 the brethren of AhaziahH274 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and saidH559, Who are ye? And they saidH559, We are the brethren of AhaziahH274; and have comeH3381 down to salute the children of the kingH4428, and the children of the queen. 14And he saidH559, Take them aliveH2416! And they took them aliveH2416, and slew them at the well of the meeting-place, forty-two menH376; and he leftH7604 not oneH376 of them remainingH7604. 15And he departed thence, and foundH4672 Jehonadab the sonH1121 of RechabH7394 [comingH5927] to meet him; and he greeted him, and saidH559 to him, Is thy heartH3824 rightH3477, as my heartH3824 is with thy heartH3824? And Jehonadab saidH559, It is. — If it be, giveH5414 [me] thy handH3027. — And he gaveH5414 [him] his handH3027; and [Jehu] took him up to him into the chariotH4818, 16and saidH559, Come with me, and seeH7200 my zealH7068 for Jehovah. So they made him rideH7392 in his chariotH7393. 17And he cameH935 to SamariaH8111, and smote all that remainedH7604 to AhabH256 in SamariaH8111, until he had destroyedH8045 him, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah which he spokeH1696 to ElijahH452. 18And JehuH3058 gatheredH6908 all the peopleH5971 togetherH6908, and saidH559 to them, AhabH256 servedH5647 BaalH1168 a littleH4592: JehuH3058 will serveH5647 him muchH7235. 19And nowH6258 callH7121 me all the prophetsH5030 of BaalH1168, all his servants, and all his priestsH3548: let none be wanting; for I have a greatH1419 sacrificeH2077 [to do] to BaalH1168; whoever shall be wanting shall not liveH2421. But JehuH3058 did it in subtilty, in order that he might bring destruction upon the servants of BaalH1168. 20And JehuH3058 saidH559, Hallow a solemnH6116 assemblyH6116 for BaalH1168. And they proclaimedH7121 [it]. 21And JehuH3058 sentH7971 into all IsraelH3478; and all the servants of BaalH1168 cameH935, so that there was not a manH376 leftH7604 that cameH935 not: and they entered into the houseH1004 of BaalH1168; and the houseH1004 of BaalH1168 was fullH4390 from oneH376 end to the other. 22And he saidH559 to him that was over the wardrobe, BringH3318 forthH3318 vestments for all the servants of BaalH1168. And he broughtH3318 them forthH3318 vestments. 23And JehuH3058 and Jehonadab the sonH1121 of RechabH7394 entered into the houseH1004 of BaalH1168, and saidH559 to the servantsH5650 of BaalH1168, SearchH2664, and seeH7200 that there be hereH6311 with you none of the servantsH5650 of Jehovah, but the servantsH5650 of BaalH1168 onlyH905. 24And they entered in to offer sacrificesH2077 and burnt-offerings. Now JehuH3058 appointedH7760 eightyH8084 menH376 without, and saidH559, He that allows any of the menH376 to escapeH4422 that I have broughtH935 into your handsH3027, his lifeH5315 shall be for the lifeH5315 of him. 25And it cameH935 to pass as soon as they had endedH3615 offering up the burnt-offering, that JehuH3058 saidH559 to the couriersH7323 and to the captains, GoH3318 in, slay them; let none comeH935 forthH3318. And they smote them with the edge of the swordH2719; and the couriersH7323 and the captains castH7993 [them] there. And they wentH3318 to the cityH5892 of the houseH1004 of BaalH1168, 26and broughtH3318 forthH3318 the columns out of the houseH1004 of BaalH1168, and burnedH8313 them; 27and they brokeH5422 down the column of BaalH1168, and brokeH5422 down the houseH1004 of BaalH1168, and madeH7760 it a draught-house to this dayH3117. 28Thus JehuH3058 extirpated BaalH1168 out of IsraelH3478. 29OnlyH7535, the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, who made IsraelH3478 to sinH2398, from them JehuH3058 departedH5493 not: [from] the golden calvesH5695 that were in Bethel, and that were in DanH1835. 30And Jehovah saidH559 to JehuH3058, Because thou hast executed wellH2895 that which is rightH3477 in my sight, [and] hast done unto the houseH1004 of AhabH256 according to all that was in my heartH3824, thy children of the fourthH7243 [generation] shall sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of IsraelH3478. 31But JehuH3058 took no heedH8104 to walk in the lawH8451 of Jehovah the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478 with all his heartH3824; he departedH5493 not from the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379, who made IsraelH3478 to sinH2398. 32In those daysH3117 Jehovah beganH2490 to cut IsraelH3478 short; and HazaelH2371 smote them in all the bordersH1366 of IsraelH3478; 33from the JordanH3383 eastward, all the landH776 of GileadH1568, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from AroerH6177, which is by the riverH5158 ArnonH769, both GileadH1568 and BashanH1316. 34And the restH3499 of the acts of JehuH3058, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 35And JehuH3058 slept with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912 him in SamariaH8111: and JehoahazH3059 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead. 36Now the time that JehuH3058 reignedH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111 was twenty-eight yearsH8141.
