2 Kings 17
Darby Bible
1In the twelfth yearH8141 of AhazH271 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, HosheaH1954 the sonH1121 of ElahH425 began to reignH4427 in SamariaH8111 over IsraelH3478, for nineH8672 yearsH8141. 2And he did evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, but not as the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478 that had beenH1961 before him. 3Against him came up ShalmaneserH8022 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and HosheaH1954 becameH1961 his servantH5650, and tendered him presents. 4But the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 foundH4672 conspiracyH7195 in HosheaH1954; for he had sentH7971 messengersH4397 to So kingH4428 of EgyptH4714, and sentH7971 up no present to the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 as [he had done] from yearH8141 to yearH8141. And the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 shutH6113 him up and boundH631 him in prison. 5And the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 overran the whole landH776, and wentH5927 up against SamariaH8111, and besieged it threeH7969 yearsH8141. 6In the ninthH8671 yearH8141 of HosheaH1954, the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 tookH3920 SamariaH8111, and carried IsraelH3478 away into AssyriaH804, and placed them in HalahH2477 and by the HaborH2249, the riverH5104 of GozanH1470, and in the citiesH5892 of the Medes. 7And so it wasH1961, because the children of IsraelH3478 had sinnedH2398 against Jehovah their 1GodH430, who had broughtH5927 them up out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 from under the handH3027 of PharaohH6547 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714, and had fearedH3372 otherH312 2godsH430; 8and they walked in the statutesH2708 of the nationsH1471 that Jehovah had dispossessedH3423 from before the children of IsraelH3478, and of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478, which they had madeH6213. 9And the children of IsraelH3478 did secretly against Jehovah their 3GodH430 thingsH1697 that were not rightH3651; and they builtH1129 them highH1116 placesH1116 in all their citiesH5892, from the watchmen's towerH4026 to the fortified cityH5892. 10And they setH5324 them up columns and Asherahs on every highH1364 hillH1389 and under every green treeH6086; 11and there they burned incenseH6999 on all the highH1116 placesH1116, as did the nationsH1471 that Jehovah had carried away from before them, and they wrought wickedH7451 thingsH1697 to provokeH3707 Jehovah to angerH3707; 12and they servedH5647 idolsH1544, as to which Jehovah had saidH559 to them, Ye shall not do this thingH1697. 13And Jehovah testifiedH5749 against IsraelH3478 and against JudahH3063, by all the prophetsH5030, all the seersH2374, sayingH559, TurnH7725 from your evilH7451 waysH1870, and keepH8104 my commandmentsH4687, my statutesH2708, according to all the lawH8451 which I commandedH6680 your fathersH1, and which I sentH7971 to you through my servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030. 14But they would not hearH8085, and hardenedH7185 their necksH6203, like to the neckH6203 of their fathersH1, who did not believeH539 in Jehovah their 4GodH430. 15And they rejectedH3988 his statutesH2706, and his covenantH1285 which he had madeH6213 with their fathersH1, and his testimoniesH5715 which he had testifiedH5749 unto them; and they followed vanityH1892 and became vain, and [went] after the nationsH1471 that were roundH5439 about them, concerning whom Jehovah had charged them that they should not do like them. 16And they forsook all the commandmentsH4687 of Jehovah their 5GodH430, and madeH6213 them molten imagesH4541, twoH8147 calvesH5695, and madeH6213 an AsherahH842, and worshipped all the hostH6635 of the heavensH8064, and servedH5647 BaalH1168; 17and they caused their sonsH1121 and their daughtersH1323 to passH5674 through the fireH784, and used divinationH7081 and enchantments, and soldH4376 themselves to do evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, to provokeH3707 him to angerH3707. 18Therefore Jehovah was veryH3966 angryH599 with IsraelH3478, and removedH5493 them out of his sight: there remainedH7604 but the tribeH7626 of JudahH3063 onlyH7535. 19AlsoH1571 JudahH3063 keptH8104 not the commandmentsH4687 of Jehovah their 6GodH430, but walked in the statutesH2708 of IsraelH3478 which they had madeH6213. 20And Jehovah rejectedH3988 all the seedH2233 of IsraelH3478; and afflicted them, and delivered them into the handH3027 of spoilers, until he had castH7993 them out of his sight. 21For IsraelH3478 had rent [the kingdom] from the houseH1004 of DavidH1732; and they had made JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028 kingH4427; and JeroboamH3379 violently turned IsraelH3478 from following Jehovah, and made them sinH2398 a greatH1419 sinH2398. 22And the children of IsraelH3478 walked in all the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379 which he did; they did not departH5493 from them: 23until Jehovah had removedH5493 IsraelH3478 out of his sight, as he had saidH1696 through all his servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030; and IsraelH3478 was carried awayH5493 out of their own landH127 to AssyriaH804, unto this dayH3117. 24And the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 broughtH935 [peopleH1121] from BabylonH894, and from CuthahH3575, and from Avva, and from HamathH2574, and from SepharvaimH5617, and made them dwellH3427 in the citiesH5892 of SamariaH8111 instead of the children of IsraelH3478; and they possessedH3423 SamariaH8111, and dweltH3427 in its citiesH5892. 25And so it wasH1961, at the beginning of their dwellingH3427 there, that they fearedH3372 not Jehovah; and Jehovah sentH7971 lionsH738 among them, which killedH2026 [some] of them. 26And they spoke to the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 sayingH559, The nationsH1471 that thou hast removed and madeH3045 to dwellH3427 in the citiesH5892 of SamariaH8111 knowH3045 not the manner of the 7godH430 of the landH776; therefore he has sentH7971 lionsH738 among them, and behold, they slay them, because they knowH3045 not the manner of the 8godH430 of the landH776. 27And the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 commandedH6680 sayingH559, Carry thither oneH259 of the priestsH3548 whom ye have brought away from thence; and let them goH1540 and abide there, and let him teachH3384 them the manner of the 9godH430 of the landH776. 28Then oneH259 of the priestsH3548 whom they had carried away from SamariaH8111 cameH935 and abode in Bethel, and taughtH3384 them howH349 they should fearH3372 Jehovah. 29And every nationH1471 madeH6213 10godsH430 of their own, and put them in the housesH1004 of the highH1116 placesH1116 that the Samaritans had madeH6213, every nationH1471 in their citiesH5892 in which they dweltH3427. 30And the people of BabylonH894 madeH6213 Succoth-benoth, and the people of Cuth madeH6213 Nergal, and the people of HamathH2574 madeH6213 Ashima, 31and the Avvites madeH6213 Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnedH8313 their children in the fireH784 to AdrammelechH152 and Anammelech the 11gods of SepharvaimH5617. 32So they fearedH3372 Jehovah, and madeH6213 to themselves from all classes of them priestsH3548 of the highH1116 placesH1116, who offered [sacrifices] for them in the housesH1004 of the highH1116 placesH1116. 33They fearedH3372 Jehovah, and servedH5647 their own 12godsH430 after the manner of the nationsH1471, whence they had beenH1961 carried away. 34To this dayH3117 they do after their formerH7223 customsH2708: they fearH3372 not Jehovah, neither do they after their statutesH2708 or after their ordinancesH4941, nor after the lawH8451 and commandmentH4687 that Jehovah commandedH6680 the sonsH1121 of JacobH3290, whom he namedH8034 IsraelH3478. 35And Jehovah had madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with them, and charged them sayingH559, Ye shall not fearH3372 otherH312 13godsH430, nor bowH7812 downH7812 yourselves to them, nor serveH5647 them, nor sacrificeH2076 to them; 36but Jehovah alone, who broughtH5927 you up out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 with greatH1419 power and a stretched-outH5186 armH2220, him shall ye fearH3372, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrificeH2076. 37And the statutesH2706 and the ordinancesH4941 and the lawH8451, and the commandmentH4687 which he wroteH3789 for you, ye shall observeH8104 to do for evermore; and ye shall not fearH3372 otherH312 14godsH430. 38And ye shall not forgetH7911 the covenantH1285 that I have madeH3772 with you, neither shall ye fearH3372 otherH312 15godsH430; 39but ye shall fearH3372 Jehovah your 16GodH430, and he shall deliverH5337 you out of the handH3027 of all your enemiesH341. 40And they did not hearken, but did after their formerH7223 customsH4941. 41And these nationsH1471 fearedH3372 Jehovah, and servedH5647 their graven images, both their children and their children's children: as did their fathersH1, so do they, unto this dayH3117.
