2 Kings 22
Darby Bible
1JosiahH2977 was eightH8083 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 thirty-one yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389; and his mother's nameH8034 was Jedidah, daughterH1323 of AdaiahH5718 of Bozcath. 2And he did what was rightH3225 in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in all the wayH1870 of DavidH1732 his fatherH1, and turnedH5493 not asideH5493 to the rightH3225 handH3225 nor to the left. 3And it came to pass in the eighteenth yearH8141 of kingH4428 JosiahH2977, [that] the kingH4428 sentH7971 ShaphanH8227 the sonH1121 of AzaliahH683, sonH1121 of MeshullamH4918, the scribeH5608, to the houseH1004 of Jehovah, sayingH559, 4GoH935 up to Hilkijah the high priestH3548, that he may sum up the moneyH3701 which is broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of Jehovah, which the doorkeepers have gatheredH622 of the peopleH5971, 5and let them giveH5414 it into the handH3027 of them that do the workH4399, that have the oversight of the houseH1004 of Jehovah; and let them giveH5414 it to those that do the workH4399 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, to repairH2388 the breaches of the houseH1004, 6to the carpenters and the buildersH1129 and the masonsH1443, and to buyH7069 timber and hewn stoneH68 to repairH2388 the houseH1004. 7But no reckoning was madeH6213 with them of the moneyH3701 that was givenH5414 into their handH3027, because they dealt faithfully. 8And Hilkijah the high priestH3548 saidH559 to ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608, I have foundH4672 the bookH5612 of the lawH8451 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah. And Hilkijah gaveH5414 the bookH5612 to ShaphanH8227, and he readH7121 it. 9And ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608 cameH935 to the kingH4428, and broughtH935 the kingH4428 wordH1697 again and saidH559, Thy servantsH5650 have emptied out the moneyH3701 that was foundH4672 in the houseH1004, and have delivered it into the handH3027 of them that do the workH4399, that have the oversight of the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 10And ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608 informed the kingH4428 sayingH559, Hilkijah the priestH3548 has givenH5414 me a bookH5612. And ShaphanH8227 readH7121 it before the kingH4428. 11And it came to pass when the kingH4428 heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612 of the lawH8451, that he rent his garmentsH899. 12And the kingH4428 commandedH6680 Hilkijah the priestH3548, and AhikamH296 the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227, and AchborH5907 the sonH1121 of MicaiahH4320, and ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608, and AsaiahH6222 a servantH5650 of the kingH4428, sayingH559, 13Go, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for the peopleH5971, and for all JudahH3063, concerning the wordsH1697 of this bookH5612 which is foundH4672; for greatH1419 is the wrathH2534 of Jehovah that is kindledH3341 against us, because our fathersH1 have not hearkened to the wordsH1697 of this bookH5612, to do according to all that is writtenH3789 [there] for us. 14And Hilkijah the priestH3548, and AhikamH296, and AchborH5907, and ShaphanH8227, and AsaiahH6222, went to HuldahH2468 the prophetessH5031, the wifeH802 of ShallumH7967 the sonH1121 of TikvahH8616, sonH1121 of Harhas, keeperH8104 of the wardrobe: now she dweltH3427 in JerusalemH3389 in the secondH4932 quarter [of the town]; and they spokeH1696 with her. 15And she saidH559 to them, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Tell the manH376 that sentH7971 you to me, 16ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Behold, I will bringH935 evilH7451 upon this placeH4725 and upon the inhabitantsH3427 thereof, all the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612 that the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 hath readH7121. 17Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incenseH6999 unto otherH312 2godsH430, that they might provokeH3707 me to angerH3707 with all the workH4639 of their handsH3027, therefore my fury is kindledH3341 against this placeH4725, and shall not be quenchedH3518. 18But to the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, who sentH7971 you to inquire of Jehovah, thusH3541 shall ye sayH559 to him: ThusH3541 saith Jehovah the 3GodH430 of IsraelH3478 touching the wordsH1697 which thou hast heardH8085: 19Because thy heartH3824 wasH1961 tender, and thou didst humbleH3665 thyself before Jehovah, when thou heardest what I spokeH1696 against this placeH4725 and against the inhabitantsH3427 thereof, that they should becomeH1961 a desolationH8047 and a curseH7045, and didst rend thy garmentsH899 and weepH1058 before me, I alsoH1571 have heardH8085 [thee], saith Jehovah. 20ThereforeH3651, behold, I will gatherH622 thee unto thy fathersH1, and thou shalt be gatheredH622 to thy graveH6913 in peaceH7965; and thine eyesH5869 shall not seeH7200 all the evilH7451 that I will bringH935 upon this placeH4725. And they broughtH935 the kingH4428 wordH1697 again.
