Darby Bible

1In the three-and-twentieth yearH8141 of JoashH3101 the sonH1121 of AhaziahH274, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, JehoahazH3059 the sonH1121 of JehuH3058 began to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111, for seventeen yearsH8141. 2And he did evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, and followed the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, who madeH6213 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398; he departedH5493 not from them. 3And the angerH639 of Jehovah was kindled against IsraelH3478, and he delivered them into the handH3027 of HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria, and into the handH3027 of Ben-HadadH1130 the sonH1121 of HazaelH2371, all those daysH3117. 4(And JehoahazH3059 besought Jehovah, and Jehovah hearkened to him; for he sawH7200 the oppressionH3906 of IsraelH3478, because the kingH4428 of Syria oppressedH3905 them. 5And Jehovah gaveH5414 IsraelH3478 a saviour, so that they wentH3318 out from under the handH3027 of the Syrians; and the children of IsraelH3478 dweltH3427 in their tentsH168 as before. 6NeverthelessH389 they departed not from the sinsH2398 of the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, who made IsraelH3478 to sinH2398: they walkedH1980 therein; and there remainedH5975 alsoH1571 the AsherahH842 in SamariaH8111.) 7For he had leftH7604 of the peopleH5971 to JehoahazH3059 but fiftyH2572 horsemenH6571, and tenH6235 chariotsH7393, and tenH6235 thousandH505 footmen; for the kingH4428 of Syria had destroyedH6 them, and had madeH7760 them like the dustH6083 by threshingH1758. 8And the restH3499 of the acts of JehoahazH3059, and all that he did, and his might, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 9And JehoahazH3059 slept with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912 him in SamariaH8111; and JoashH3101 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead. 10In the thirty-seventh yearH8141 of Joash kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began JehoashH3060 the sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059 to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111, for sixteen yearsH8141. 11And he did evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah; he departed not from any of the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, who madeH6213 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398: he walkedH1980 therein. 12And the restH3499 of the acts of JoashH3101, and all that he did, and his might with which he foughtH3898 against AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 13And JoashH3101 slept with his fathersH1, and JeroboamH3379 satH3427 upon his throneH3678; and JoashH3101 was buriedH6912 in SamariaH8111 with the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478. 14And ElishaH477 fell sickH2470 of his sicknessH2483 in which he diedH4191. And JoashH3101 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 cameH3381 downH3381 to him, and weptH1058 over his faceH6440, and saidH559, My fatherH1, my fatherH1! the chariotH7393 of IsraelH3478 and the horsemenH6571 thereof! 15And ElishaH477 saidH559 to him, TakeH3947 bowH7198 and arrowsH2671. And he tookH3947 a bowH7198 and arrowsH2671. 16And he saidH559 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, PutH7760 thy handH3027 upon the bowH7198. And he putH7760 his handH3027 [upon it]; and ElishaH477 putH7760 his handsH3027 upon the king's handsH3027, 17and saidH559, OpenH6605 the windowH2474 eastward. And he openedH6605 [it]. And ElishaH477 saidH559, ShootH3384. And he shotH3384. And he saidH559, An arrowH2671 of Jehovah's deliveranceH8668, even an arrowH2671 of deliveranceH8668 from the Syrians; and thou shalt smite the Syrians in AphekH663, till thou hast consumed [them]. 18And he saidH559, TakeH3947 the arrowsH2678. And he tookH3947 [them]. And he saidH559 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, Smite upon the groundH776. And he smote thrice, and stayed. 19And the manH376 of 1GodH430 was wroth with him, and saidH559, Thou shouldest have smitten fiveH2568 or sixH8337 timesH6471; thenH227 wouldest thou have smitten the Syrians till thou hadst consumed [them]; whereas nowH6258 thou shalt smite Syria but thrice. 20And ElishaH477 diedH4191, and they buriedH6912 him. And the bandsH1416 of the Moabites invaded the landH776 at the comingH935 in of the yearH8141. 21And it came to pass as they wereH1961 buryingH6912 a manH376, that behold, they sawH7200 the bandH1416, and they castH7993 the manH376 into the sepulchre of ElishaH477; and the manH376 went [downH7993], and touchedH5060 the bonesH6106 of ElishaH477, and he revived, and stoodH6965 upon his feetH7272. 22And HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria oppressedH3905 IsraelH3478 all the daysH3117 of JehoahazH3059. 23And Jehovah was gracious to them, and had compassionH7355 on them, and had respect to them, because of his covenantH1285 with AbrahamH85, IsaacH3327, and JacobH3290; and he wouldH14 not destroyH7843 them, neither did he castH7993 them from his presenceH6440 up to that time. 24And HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria diedH4191, and Ben-HadadH1130 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead. 25And JehoashH3060 the sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059 tookH3947 again out of the handH3027 of Ben-HadadH1130 the sonH1121 of HazaelH2371 the citiesH5892 which he had takenH3947 out of the handH3027 of JehoahazH3059 his fatherH1 in the warH4421. ThreeH7969 timesH6471 did Joash beat him, and recovered the citiesH5892 of IsraelH3478.
