2 Kings 12

Revised Version 1895

1In the seventhH7651 yearH8141 of Jehu began JehoashH3060 to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 forty yearsH8141 in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba. 2And JehoashH3060 did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD all his daysH8141 wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 3Howbeit the high placesH3605 were not taken awayH3605: the peopleH834 still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high placesH3605. 4And Jehoash said to the priestsH3808, AllH5750 the money of the hallowed things that is brought intoH5493 the house of the LORD, in current money, the money of the persons for whom eachH5971 man is rated, and allH5750 the money that it cometh intoH5493 anyH5750 man’s heart to bring intoH5493 the house of the LORD, 5letH5315 the priestsH3548 takeH935 it to them, everyH3605 manH376 from his acquaintance: and they shall repair the breaches of the houseH1004, wheresoever anyH3605 breach shall be found. 6But it was soH3947, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priestsH3548 had not repairedH2388 the breaches of the houseH1004. 7Then kingH4428 JehoashH3060 called for Jehoiada the priestH3548, and for the other priestsH3548, and said unto them, WhyH3808 repairH2388 ye notH3808 the breaches of the houseH1004? nowH1961 therefore takeH2388 noH3808 moreH3808 money from your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the houseH1004. 8And the priestsH3548 consented that they should takeH3947 noH369 moreH369 moneyH3701 from the peopleH408, neitherH369 repairH2388 the breaches of the houseH1004. 9But Jehoiada the priestH3548 tookH3947 a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh intoH3947 the houseH1004 of the LORD: and the priestsH3548 that kept the door putH3947 therein all the moneyH3701 that was broughtH3947 intoH3947 the houseH1004 of the LORD. 10And it was soH3947, when they saw that there was muchH3605 moneyH3701 in the chestH727, that the king’s scribe and the high priestH3548 cameH935 upH5414, and they putH5414 upH5414 in bags and told the moneyH3701 that was found in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. 11And they gaveH1961 the moneyH3701 that was weighed outH7200 intoH1961 the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068: and they paid it outH7200 to the carpenters and the builders, that wrought uponH1961 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, 12and to the masonsH2796 and the hewers of stone, and for buying timberH6086 and hewn stone to repair the breaches of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and for allH6485 that was laidH5414 outH3318 for the houseH1004 to repair it. 13But there were not madeH2388 for the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 cups of silver, snuffers, basons, trumpets, anyH3605 vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was broughtH3318 intoH5921 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068: 14for they gaveH6213 that to them that didH6213 the work, and repaired therewith the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. 15Moreover they reckoned notH3588 with the menH6213, intoH5414 whose handH5414 they deliveredH5414 the money to giveH5414 to them that didH6213 the workH4399: for they dealt faithfully. 16The moneyH3701 for the guilt offeringsH3588, and the moneyH3701 for the sin offeringsH3588, was notH3808 broughtH5414 intoH5921 the house of the LORD: it was the priests’. 17Then Hazael king of Syria wentH935 upH935, and fought againstH935 Gath, and tookH1961 it: and Hazael setH935 his face to goH935 upH935 to Jerusalem. 18And Jehoash kingH4428 of Judah tookH3920 allH5927 the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kingsH4428 of Judah, had dedicated, and his ownH6440 hallowed things, and allH5927 the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD; and of the king’sH4428 house, and sentH5927 it to HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of SyriaH758: and he wentH5927 awayH5927 from JerusalemH3389. 19Now the rest of the acts of JoashH3060, and allH3605 that he didH834, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063? 20And his servants arose, and madeH6213 a conspiracy, and smote JoashH3101 at the house of Millo, on the wayH1697 that goeth downH3789 to Silla. 21For Jozacar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servantsH5650, smoteH5221 him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in hin stead.
