Joash (Jehoash) Reigns over Judah

1In the seventhH7651 yearH8141 of JehuH3058, 1JehoashH3060 becameH4427 kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 fortyH705 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389; and his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was ZibiahH6645 of BeershebaH884. 2JehoashH3060 didH6213 rightH3477 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068 allH3605 his daysH3117 in whichH834 JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548 instructedH3384 him. 3OnlyH7534 2the highH1166 placesH1116 were not takenH5493 awayH5493; the peopleH5971 stillH5750 sacrificedH2076 and burnedH6999 incenseH6999 on the highH1116 placesH1116.

The Temple to Be Repaired

4Then JehoashH3060 saidH559 to the priestsH3548, “AllH3605 the moneyH3701 of the sacredH6944 thingsH6944 3whichH834 is broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, in currentH5674 moneyH3701, both 4the moneyH3701 of eachH376 man’sH376 assessmentH6187 and allH3605 the moneyH3701 5whichH834 anyH376 man’sH376 heartH3820 promptsH5927H5921 him to bringH935 into the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, 5let the priestsH3548 takeH3947 it for themselves, eachH376 from his acquaintanceH4378; and they shall repairH2388 the 6damagesH919 of the houseH1004 whereverH3605H834H8033 any damageH919 may be foundH4672.”

6But it cameH1961 about that in the twenty-thirdH6242H7969 yearH8141 of KingH4428 JehoashH3060 7the priestsH3548 had not repairedH2388 the damagesH919 of the houseH1004. 7Then KingH4428 JehoashH3060 calledH7121 for JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548, and for the other priestsH3548 and saidH559 to them, “WhyH4069 do you not repairH2388 the damagesH919 of the houseH1004? NowH6258 therefore takeH3947 noH408 more moneyH3701 from your acquaintancesH4378, but payH5414 it for the damagesH919 of the houseH1004.” 8So the priestsH3548 agreedH225 that they would takeH3947 noH1115 more moneyH3701 from the peopleH5971, norH1115 repairH2388 the damagesH919 of the houseH1004.

9But 8JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548 tookH3947 a chestH727 and boredH5344 a holeH2356 in its lidH1817 and putH5414 it besideH681 the altarH4196, on the rightH3225 sideH3225 as oneH376 comesH935 into the houseH1004 of the LordH3068; and the priestsH3548 who guardedH8104 the thresholdH5592 putH5414 in it allH3605 the moneyH3701 which was broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of the LordH3068. 10When they sawH7200 that there was muchH7227 moneyH3701 in the chestH727, 9the king’sH4428 scribeH5613 and the highH1419 priestH3548 cameH5927 up and tiedH6696 it in bags and countedH4487 the moneyH3701 which was foundH4672 in the houseH1004 of the LordH3068. 11They gaveH5414 the moneyH3701 which was weighedH8505 out into the handsH3027 of those who didH6213 the workH4399, who had the oversightH6485 of the houseH1004 of the LordH3068; and they 10paidH3318 it out to the carpentersH2796H6086 and the buildersH1129 who workedH6213 on the houseH1004 of the LordH3068; 12and 11to the masonsH1443 and the stonecuttersH2672H68, and for buyingH7069 timberH6086 and hewnH4274 stoneH68 to repairH2388 the damagesH919 to the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, and for allH3605 that was 12laidH3318 out for the houseH1004 to repairH2388 it. 13But 13there were not madeH6213 for the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 14silverH3701 cupsH5592, snuffersH4212, bowlsH4219, trumpetsH2689, anyH3605 vesselsH3627 of goldH2091, or vesselsH3627 of silverH3701 from the moneyH3701 which was broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of the LordH3068; 14for they gaveH5414 that to those who didH6213 the workH4399, and with it they repairedH2388 the houseH1004 of the LordH3068. 15Moreover, 15they did not requireH2803 an accountingH2803 from the menH376 into whoseH834 handH3027 they gaveH5414 the moneyH3701 to payH5414 to those who didH6213 the workH4399, for they dealtH6213 faithfullyH530. 16The 16moneyH3701 from the guiltH817 offeringsH817 and 17the moneyH3701 from the sinH2403 offeringsH2403 was not broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of the LordH3068; 18it was for the priestsH3548.

17ThenH227 19HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of AramH758 wentH5927 up and foughtH3898 againstH5921 GathH1661 and capturedH3920 it, and 20HazaelH2371 setH7760 his faceH6440 to goH5927 up to JerusalemH3389. 1821JehoashH3060 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 tookH3947 allH3605 the sacredH6944 thingsH6944 that JehoshaphatH3092 and JehoramH3088 and AhaziahH274, his fathersH1, kingsH4428 of JudahH3063, had dedicatedH6942, and 22his own sacredH6944 thingsH6944 and allH3605 the goldH2091 that was foundH4672 among the treasuriesH214 of the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 and of the king’sH4428 houseH1004, and sentH7971 them to HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of AramH758. Then he wentH5927 awayH5927 from JerusalemH3389.

Joash (Jehoash) Succeeded by Amaziah in Judah

19Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JoashH3060 and allH3605 that he didH6213, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of JudahH3063? 2023His servantsH5650 aroseH6965 and madeH7194 a conspiracyH7195 and 24struckH5221 downH5221 JoashH3060 at 25the houseH1004 of MilloH4407 as he was goingH3381 downH3381 to SillaH5538. 21For JozacarH3108 the sonH1121 of ShimeathH8100 and JehozabadH3075 the sonH1121 of 26ShomerH7763, his servantsH5650, struckH5221 him and he diedH4191; and they buriedH6912 him with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, and 27AmaziahH558 his sonH1121 becameH4427 kingH4427 in his placeH8478.
