Romans 9
1I sayG3004 the truthG225 in ChristG5547, I lieG5574 not, my conscienceG4893 bearingG4828 witnessG4828 with me in the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, 2that I have greatG3173 sorrowG3077 and unceasing pain in my heartG2588. 3For I could wish that I myself wereG1510 anathema from ChristG5547 for my brethren’s sake, my kinsmen accordingG2596 to the fleshG4561: 4who areG1510 IsraelitesG2475; whose isG1510 the adoptionG5206, and the gloryG1391, and the covenantsG1242, and the giving of the law, and the serviceG2999 of God, and the promisesG1860; 5whose areG1510 the fathersG3962, and of whom isG1510 ChristG5547 as concerning the fleshG4561, who isG1510 over all, GodG2316 blessed for ever. AmenG281.
6Butit isnot as though the wordG3056 of GodG2316 hath come to nought. For they are not all IsraelG2474, that are of IsraelG2474: 7neither, because they areG1510 Abraham’s seedG4690, areG1510 they all childrenG5043: but, In IsaacG2464 shall thy seedG4690 beG1510 calledG2564. 8That isG1510, it isG1510 not the childrenG5043 of the fleshG4561 that areG1510 childrenG5043 of GodG2316; but the childrenG5043 of the promiseG1860 areG1510 reckonedG3049 for a seedG4690. 9For this isG1510 a wordG3056 of promiseG1860, AccordingG2596 to this seasonG2540 will I comeG2064, and SarahG4564 shall have a sonG5207. 10And not onlyG3440 so; but Rebecca alsoG2532 having conceived by oneG1520, evenG2532 by our fatherG3962 IsaacG2464— 11for the children being not yetG235 bornG1080, neither having done anythingG5100 goodG18 or bad, that the purposeG4286 of GodG2316 accordingG2596 to electionG1589 might stand, not of worksG2041, but of him that calleth, 12it was said unto her, The elder shall serveG1398 the younger. 13Even as it is writtenG1125, JacobG2384 I lovedG25, but EsauG2269 I hatedG3404.
14What shall we sayG3004 thenG3767? Is there unrighteousnessG93 with GodG2316? GodG2316 forbid. 15For he saith to MosesG3475, I will have mercyG1653 on whom I have mercyG1653, and I will have compassionG3627 on whom I have compassionG3627. 16So thenG3767 it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of GodG2316 that hath mercyG1653. 17For the scriptureG1124 saith unto PharaohG5328, For this very purpose did I raise thee up, that I might showG1731 in thee my powerG1411, and that my nameG3686 might be published abroad in all the earthG1093. 18So thenG3767 he hath mercyG1653 on whom he will, and whom he will he hardeneth.
19Thou wilt sayG3004 thenG3767 unto me, WhyG5101 doth he stillG2089 find faultG3201? For who withstandeth his will? 20Nay but, O manG444, who art thou that repliest against GodG2316? Shall the thing formed sayG3004 to him that formed it, WhyG5101 didst thou makeG4160 me thusG3779? 21Or hath not the potterG2763 a rightG1849 over the clayG4081, from the sameG846 lumpG5445 to makeG4160 oneG3739 part a vesselG4632 unto honorG5092, and another unto dishonorG819? 22What if GodG2316, willingG2309 to showG1731 his wrathG3709, and to makeG1107 his powerG1415 known, endured with muchG4183 longsuffering vesselsG4632 of wrathG3709 fitted unto destructionG684: 23and that he might makeG1107 known the richesG4149 of his gloryG1391 upon vesselsG4632 of mercyG1656, which he afore prepared unto gloryG1391, 24evenG2532 us, whom he alsoG2532 calledG2564, not from the JewsG2453 onlyG3440, but alsoG2532 from the GentilesG1484? 25As he saith alsoG2532 in Hosea,
27And IsaiahG2268 crieth concerningG5228 IsraelG2474, If the numberG706 of the children of IsraelG2474 beG1510 as the sandG285 of the seaG2281, it isG1510 the remnant that shall beG1510 savedG4982: 28for the LordG2962 will execute his wordG3056 upon the earthG1093, finishing it and cutting it short. 29And, as IsaiahG2268 hath said before,
30What shall we sayG3004 thenG3767? That the GentilesG1484, who followed not after righteousnessG1343, attained to righteousnessG1343, even the righteousnessG1343 which is of faithG4102: 31but IsraelG2474, following after a lawG3551 of righteousnessG1343, did not arrive at that lawG3551. 32Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faithG4102, but as it were by worksG2041. They stumbled at the stoneG3037 of stumbling; 33evenG2532 as it is writtenG1125,
