Romans 13
American Standard Version
1Let every soulG5590 beG1510 in subjectionG5293 to the higher powersG1849: for there isG1510 no powerG1849 but of GodG2316; and the powersG1849 that beG1510 areG1510 ordained of GodG2316. 2ThereforeG5620 he that resisteth the powerG1849, withstandeth the ordinance of GodG2316: and they that withstand shall receiveG2983 to themselves judgmentG2917. 3For rulersG758 areG1510 not a terror to the goodG18 workG2041, but to the evilG2556. And wouldest thou have no fearG5401 of the powerG1849? do that which isG1510 goodG18, and thou shalt have praiseG1868 from the sameG846: 4for he isG1510 a ministerG1249 of GodG2316 to thee for goodG18. But if thou do that which isG1510 evilG2556, beG1510 afraidG5399; for he beareth not the swordG3162 in vainG1500: for he isG1510 a ministerG1249 of GodG2316, an avenger for wrathG3709 to him that doeth evilG2556. 5Wherefore ye must needs be in subjectionG5293, not onlyG3440 because of the wrathG3709, but alsoG2532 for conscience’G4893 sakeG1223. 6For for this cause ye pay tribute alsoG2532; for they areG1510 ministersG3011 of God’s service, attending continually upon this very thingG3778. 7RenderG591 to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fearG5401 to whom fearG5401; honorG5092 to whom honorG5092.
8OweG3784 no man anything, save to loveG25 oneG240 another: for he that loveth his neighbor hath fulfilled the lawG3551. 9For this, Thou shalt not commitG3431 adulteryG3431, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not stealG2813, Thou shalt not covetG1937, and if there be any otherG2087 commandmentG1785, it is summed up in this wordG3056, namely, Thou shalt loveG25 thy neighbor as thyself. 10LoveG26 worketh no ill to his neighbor: loveG26 thereforeG3767 is the fulfilment of the lawG3551.
11And this, knowing the seasonG2540, that alreadyG2235 it is timeG2540 for you to awake out of sleepG5258: for nowG3568 is salvationG4991 nearer to us than whenG3753 wefirstbelievedG4100. 12The nightG3571 is far spent, and the dayG2250 is at hand: let us thereforeG3767 cast off the worksG2041 of darknessG4655, and let us putG1746 on the armor of lightG5457. 13Let us walkG4043 becomingly, as in the dayG2250; not in revelling and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strifeG2054 and jealousyG2205. 14But putG1746 ye on the LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547, and makeG4160 not provision for the fleshG4561, to fulfil the lustsG1939 thereof.
