Genesis 18
American Standard Version
1And Jehovah appearedH7200 unto him by the oaks of MamreH4471, as he satH3427 in the tentH168 doorH6607 in the heatH2527 of the dayH3117; 2and he liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 and lookedH7200, and, lo, threeH7969 menH376 stoodH5324 over against him: and when he sawH7200 them, he ranH7323 to meet them from the tentH168 doorH6607, and bowedH7812 himself to the earthH776, 3and saidH559, My lordH113, if now I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in thy sight, passH5674 not awayH5674, I pray thee, from thy servantH5650: 4let now a littleH4592 waterH4325 be fetched, and washH7364 your feetH7272, and rest yourselves under the treeH6086: 5and I will fetch a morselH6595 of breadH3899, and strengthen ye your heartH3820; after that ye shall passH5674 on: forasmuch as ye are come to your servantH5650. And they saidH559, SoH3651 do, as thou hast saidH559. 6And AbrahamH85 hastenedH4116 into the tentH168 unto SarahH8283, and saidH559, MakeH6213 ready quicklyH4116 threeH7969 measures of fineH5560 meal, kneadH3888 it, and makeH6213 cakesH5692. 7And AbrahamH85 ranH7323 unto the herdH1241, and fetched a calf tenderH7390 and goodH2896, and gaveH5414 it unto the servantH5288; and he hasted to dress it. 8And he tookH3947 butter, and milkH2461, and the calf which he had dressed, and setH5414 it before them; and he stoodH5975 by them under the treeH6086, and they did eatH398.
9And they saidH559 unto him, WhereH346 is SarahH8283 thy wifeH802? And he saidH559, Behold, in the tentH168. 10And he saidH559, I will certainly returnH7725 unto thee when the season cometh round; and, lo, SarahH8283 thy wifeH802 shall have a sonH1121. And SarahH8283 heardH8085 in the tentH168 doorH6607, which was behind him. 11Now AbrahamH85 and SarahH8283 wereH1961 oldH2205, and well stricken in age; it had ceasedH2308 to beH1961 with SarahH8283 after the manner of womenH802. 12And SarahH8283 laughedH6711 within herself, sayingH559, After I amH1961 waxed oldH2204 shall I have pleasure, my lordH113 being oldH2204 also? 13And Jehovah saidH559 unto AbrahamH85, Wherefore did SarahH8283 laughH6711, sayingH559, Shall I of a surety bearH3205 a childH3205, who am oldH2204? 14Is anythingH1697 tooH6381 hardH6381 for Jehovah? At the set timeH6256 I will returnH7725 unto thee, when the season cometh round, and SarahH8283 shall have a sonH1121. 15Then SarahH8283 deniedH3584, sayingH559, I laughedH6711 not; for she was afraidH3372. And he saidH559, Nay; but thou didst laughH6711.
16And the menH376 roseH6965 up from thence, and lookedH8259 toward SodomH5467: and AbrahamH85 wentH1980 with them to bring them on the way. 17And Jehovah saidH559, Shall I hide from AbrahamH85 that which I do; 18seeing that AbrahamH85 shall surely becomeH1961 a greatH1419 and mightyH6099 nationH1471, and all the nationsH1471 of the earthH776 shall beH1961 blessedH1288 in him? 19For I have knownH3045 him, to the end that he may commandH6680 his children and his householdH1004 after him, that they may keepH8104 the wayH1870 of Jehovah, to do righteousnessH6666 and justiceH4941; to the end that Jehovah may bringH935 upon AbrahamH85 that which he hath spokenH1696 of him. 20And Jehovah saidH559, Because the cryH2201 of SodomH5467 and GomorrahH6017 is great, and because their sinH2403 is veryH3966 grievous; 21I will goH935 down now, and seeH7200 whether they have done altogether according to the cryH6818 of it, which is comeH935 unto me; and if not, I will knowH3045.
22And the menH376 turnedH6437 from thence, and went toward SodomH5467: but AbrahamH85 stoodH5975 yetH5750 before Jehovah. 23And AbrahamH85 drewH5066 near, and saidH559, Wilt thou consume the righteousH6662 with the wickedH7563? 24Peradventure there are fiftyH2572 righteousH6662 within the cityH5892: wilt thou consume and not spare the placeH4725 for the fiftyH2572 righteousH6662 that are therein? 25That beH1961 farH2486 from thee to do after this mannerH1697, to slay the righteousH6662 with the wickedH7563, that so the righteousH6662 should beH1961 as the wickedH7563; that beH1961 farH2486 from thee: shall not the JudgeH8199 of all the earthH776 do rightH4941? 26And Jehovah saidH559, If I findH4672 in SodomH5467 fiftyH2572 righteousH6662 within the cityH5892, then I will spare all the placeH4725 for their sakeH5668. 27And AbrahamH85 answered and saidH559, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speakH1696 unto the LordH136, who am but dustH6083 and ashesH665: 28peradventure there shall lackH2637 fiveH2568 of the fiftyH2572 righteousH6662: wilt thou destroyH7843 all the cityH5892 for lackH2637 of fiveH2568? And he saidH559, I will not destroyH7843 it, if I findH4672 there fortyH705 and fiveH2568. 29And he spake unto him yetH5750 againH5750, and saidH559, Peradventure there shall be fortyH705 foundH4672 there. And he saidH559, I will not do it for the forty’s sakeH5668. 30And he saidH559, Oh let not the LordH136 be angryH2734, and I will speakH1696: peradventure there shall thirtyH7970 be foundH4672 there. And he saidH559, I will not do it, if I findH4672 thirtyH7970 there. 31And he saidH559, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speakH1696 unto the LordH136: peradventure there shall be twentyH6242 foundH4672 there. And he saidH559, I will not destroyH7843 it for the twenty’s sakeH5668. 32And he saidH559, Oh let not the LordH136 be angryH2734, and I will speakH1696 yet but this once: peradventure tenH6235 shall be foundH4672 there. And he saidH559, I will not destroyH7843 it for the ten’s sakeH5668. 33And Jehovah wentH7725 his way, as soon as he had left off communing with AbrahamH85: and AbrahamH85 returnedH7725 unto his placeH4725.
