Genesis 27

American Standard Version

1And it came to pass, that when IsaacH3327 wasH1961 old, and his eyesH5869 wereH1961 dim, so that he could not seeH7200, he calledH7121 EsauH6215 his elder sonH1121, and saidH559 unto him, My sonH1121: and he saidH559 unto him, HereH2009 amH1961 I. 2And he saidH559, Behold now, I am oldH2204, I knowH3045 not the dayH3117 of my deathH4194. 3NowH6258 thereforeH6258 takeH5375, I pray thee, thy weaponsH3627, thy quiver and thy bowH7198, and goH3318 out to the fieldH7704, and takeH5375 me venison; 4and makeH6213 me savoryH4303 food, such as I loveH157, and bringH935 it to me, that I may eatH398; that my soulH5315 may blessH1288 thee before I dieH4191.

5And RebekahH7259 heardH8085 when IsaacH3327 spake to EsauH6215 his sonH1121. And EsauH6215 wentH935 to the fieldH7704 to huntH6679 for venison, and to bringH935 it. 6And RebekahH7259 spake unto JacobH3290 her sonH1121, sayingH559, Behold, I heardH8085 thy fatherH1 speakH1696 unto EsauH6215 thy brotherH251, sayingH559, 7BringH935 me venison, and makeH6213 me savoryH4303 food, that I may eatH398, and blessH1288 thee before Jehovah before my deathH4194. 8NowH6258 thereforeH6258, my sonH1121, obey my voiceH6963 according to that which I commandH6680 thee. 9Go now to the flockH6629, and fetch me from thence twoH8147 goodH2896 kids of the goatsH5795; and I will makeH6213 them savoryH4303 foodH4303 for thy fatherH1, such as he loveth: 10and thou shalt bringH935 it to thy fatherH1, that he may eatH398, so that he may blessH1288 thee before his deathH4194. 11And JacobH3290 saidH559 to RebekahH7259 his motherH517, Behold, EsauH6215 my brotherH251 is a hairy manH376, and I am a smoothH2509 manH376. 12My fatherH1 peradventure will feelH4959 me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bringH935 a curseH7045 upon me, and not a blessingH1293. 13And his motherH517 saidH559 unto him, Upon me be thy curseH7045, my sonH1121; onlyH389 obey my voiceH6963, and go fetch me them. 14And he wentH935, and fetched, and broughtH935 them to his motherH517: and his motherH517 madeH6213 savoryH4303 foodH4303, such as his fatherH1 lovedH157. 15And RebekahH7259 tookH3947 the goodly garmentsH899 of EsauH6215 her elder sonH1121, which were with her in the houseH1004, and putH3847 them upon JacobH3290 her youngerH6996 sonH1121; 16and she putH3847 the skinsH5785 of the kids of the goatsH5795 upon his handsH3027, and upon the smooth of his neckH6677: 17and she gaveH5414 the savoryH4303 foodH3899 and the breadH3899, which she had prepared, into the handH3027 of her sonH1121 JacobH3290.

18And he cameH935 unto his fatherH1, and saidH559, My fatherH1: and he saidH559, HereH2009 am I; who art thou, my sonH1121? 19And JacobH3290 saidH559 unto his fatherH1, I am EsauH6215 thy first-born; I have done according as thou badest me: ariseH6965, I pray thee, sitH3427 and eatH398 of my venison, that thy soulH5315 may blessH1288 me. 20And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto his sonH1121, HowH4100 is it that thou hast foundH4672 it so quicklyH4116, my sonH1121? And he saidH559, Because Jehovah thy GodH430 sent me good speed. 21And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto JacobH3290, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feelH4184 thee, my sonH1121, whether thou be my very sonH1121 EsauH6215 or not. 22And JacobH3290 went near unto IsaacH3327 his fatherH1; and he feltH4959 him, and saidH559, The voiceH6963 is Jacob’s voiceH6963, but the handsH3027 are the handsH3027 of EsauH6215. 23And he discerned him not, because his handsH3027 wereH1961 hairy, as his brotherH251 Esau’s handsH3027: so he blessedH1288 him. 24And he saidH559, Art thou my very sonH1121 EsauH6215? And he saidH559, I am. 25And he saidH559, BringH935 it near to me, and I will eatH398 of my son’sH1121 venison, that my soulH5315 may blessH1288 thee. And he broughtH935 it near to him, and he did eatH398: and he broughtH935 him wineH3196, and he drankH8354. 26And his fatherH1 IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my sonH1121. 27And he came near, and kissedH5401 him: and he smelledH7306 the smellH7306 of his raiment, and blessedH1288 him, and saidH559,

SeeH7200, the smellH7306 of my sonH1121Is as the smellH7306 of a fieldH7704 which Jehovah hath blessedH1288:28And GodH430 giveH5414 thee of the dewH2919 of heavenH8064,And of the fatness of the earthH776,And plenty of grainH1715 and newH8492 wineH8492:29Let peoplesH5971 serveH5647 thee,And nations bowH7812 downH7812 to thee:Be lordH1376 over thy brethren,And let thy mother’sH517 sonsH1121 bowH7812 downH7812 to thee:CursedH779 be every one that curseth thee,And blessedH1288 be every one that blesseth thee.

30And it cameH935 to pass, as soon as IsaacH3327 had made an endH3615 of blessingH1288 JacobH3290, and JacobH3290 wasH1961 yet scarce goneH3318 out from the presenceH6440 of IsaacH3327 his fatherH1, that EsauH6215 his brotherH251 cameH935 in from his hunting. 31And he alsoH1571 madeH6213 savoryH4303 food, and broughtH935 it unto his fatherH1; and he saidH559 unto his fatherH1, Let my fatherH1 ariseH6965, and eatH398 of his son’sH1121 venison, that thy soulH5315 may blessH1288 me. 32And IsaacH3327 his fatherH1 saidH559 unto him, Who art thou? And he saidH559, I am thy sonH1121, thy first-born, EsauH6215. 33And IsaacH3327 trembledH2729 veryH3966 exceedinglyH3966, and saidH559, Who then is he that hath taken venison, and broughtH935 it me, and I have eatenH398 of all before thou camest, and have blessedH1288 him? yea, and he shall beH1961 blessedH1288. 34When EsauH6215 heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of his fatherH1, he criedH6817 with an exceeding greatH1419 and bitterH4751 cryH6818, and saidH559 unto his fatherH1, BlessH1288 me, even me alsoH1571, O my fatherH1. 35And he saidH559, Thy brotherH251 cameH935 with guile, and hath takenH3947 awayH3947 thy blessingH1293. 36And he saidH559, Is not he rightly namedH8034 JacobH3290? for he hath supplanted me these two timesH6471: he tookH3947 awayH3947 my birthrightH1062; and, behold, nowH6258 he hath takenH3947 awayH3947 my blessingH1293. And he saidH559, Hast thou not reserved a blessingH1293 for me? 37And IsaacH3327 answered and saidH559 unto EsauH6215, Behold, I have madeH6213 him thy lordH1376, and all his brethren have I givenH5414 to him for servantsH5650; and with grainH1715 and newH8492 wineH8492 have I sustainedH5564 him: and what then shall I do for thee, my sonH1121? 38And EsauH6215 saidH559 unto his fatherH1, Hast thou but oneH259 blessingH1293, my fatherH1? blessH1288 me, even me alsoH1571, O my fatherH1. And EsauH6215 liftedH5375 up his voiceH6963, and weptH1058. 39And IsaacH3327 his fatherH1 answered and saidH559 unto him,

Behold, of the fatness of the earthH776 shall beH1961 thy dwellingH4186,And of the dewH2919 of heavenH8064 from above;40And by thy swordH2719 shalt thou liveH2421, and thou shalt serveH5647 thy brotherH251;And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt break loose,That thou shalt shake his yokeH5923 from off thy neckH6677.

41And EsauH6215 hated JacobH3290 because of the blessingH1293 wherewith his fatherH1 blessedH1288 him: and EsauH6215 saidH559 in his heartH3820, The daysH3117 of mourningH60 for my fatherH1 are at hand; then will I slayH2026 my brotherH251 JacobH3290. 42And the wordsH1697 of EsauH6215 her elder sonH1121 were toldH5046 to RebekahH7259; and she sentH7971 and calledH7121 JacobH3290 her youngerH6996 sonH1121, and saidH559 unto him, Behold, thy brotherH251 EsauH6215, as touching thee, doth comfortH5162 himself, purposing to killH2026 thee. 43NowH6258 thereforeH6258, my sonH1121, obey my voiceH6963; and ariseH6965, fleeH1272 thou to LabanH3837 my brotherH251 to HaranH2771; 44and tarry with him a few daysH3117, until thy brother’sH251 fury turnH7725 awayH7725; 45until thy brother’sH251 angerH639 turnH7725 awayH7971 from thee, and he forgetH7911 that which thou hast done to him: then I will sendH7971, and fetch thee from thence: whyH4100 should I be bereavedH7921 of you both in oneH259 dayH3117?

46And RebekahH7259 saidH559 to IsaacH3327, I am weary of my lifeH2416 because of the daughtersH1323 of HethH2845: if JacobH3290 takeH3947 a wifeH802 of the daughtersH1323 of HethH2845, such as these, of the daughtersH1323 of the landH776, what good shall my lifeH2416 do me?
