2NowδὲdeG1161whilein prisonδεσμωτηρίῳdesmōtēriōG1201,JohnἸωάννηςIōannēsG2491heardἀκούσαςakousasG191about the worksἔργαergaG2041of ChristΧριστοῦ,ChristouG5547,and he sentπέμψαςpempsasG3992wordby his disciplesμαθητῶνmathētōnG3101,

3and saidG3004to Him, “Are Youthe Comingἐρχόμενος,erchomenosG2064One, orἢēG2228are we tolookπροσδοκῶμεν;¶prosdokōmenG4328forG4328someoneG2087elseG2087?”

4JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004to them,“GoπορευθέντεςporeuthentesG4198and reportἀπαγγείλατεapangeilateG518to JohnἸωάννῃIōannēG2491whatἃhaG3739you hearἀκούετεakoueteG191and seeβλέπετε·blepeteG991:

5those who areblindτυφλοὶtuphloiG5185receiveἀναβλέπουσιν,anablepousinG308sightG308and those wholimpχωλοὶchōloiG5560walkπεριπατοῦσιν,peripatousinG4043, thosewithG3015leprosyG3015are cleansedκαθαρίζονται,katharizontaiG2511and those who aredeafκωφοὶkōphoiG2974hearἀκούουσιν,akouousinG191, thedeadνεκροὶnekroiG3498are raisedἐγείρονται,egeirontaiG1453, and thepoorπτωχοὶptōchoiG4434have thegospelG2097preachedG2097to them.

6And blessedμακάριόςmakariosG3107isanyἐὰνeanG1437person whoὃςhosG3739does nottakeG4624offenseG4624at Me.”

7As theseΤούτωνToutōnG3778disciples of Johnwere goingπορευομένωνporeuomenōnG4198away,JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424beganἤρξατοērxatoG757speakingλέγεινlegeinG3004to the crowdsὄχλοιςochloisG3793aboutπερὶperiG4012JohnἸωάννου·IōannouG2491:“WhatτίtiG5101did you goG1831outG1831intothe wildernessἔρημονerēmonG2048to seeθεάσασθαι;theasasthaiG2300?A reedκάλαμονkalamonG2563shakenσαλευόμενον;saleuomenonG4531by the windἀνέμουanemouG417?

8But whatτίtiG5101did you goἐξήλθατεexēlthateG1831outG1831to seeG3708?A manἄνθρωπονanthrōponG444dressedἠμφιεσμένον;ēmphiesmenonG294in softμαλακοῖςmalakoisG3120clothing?ThoseG3588who wearφοροῦντεςphorountesG5409softμαλακὰmalakaG3120clothingare in kings’βασιλέωνbasileōnG935palacesοἴκοιςoikoisG3624!

9But whatτίtiG5101did you goἐξήλθατεexēlthateG1831outG1831to seeG3708?A prophetπροφήτην;prophētēnG4396?YesναὶnaiG3483,I tellλέγωlegōG3004you, and one who ismoreG4053than a prophetπροφήτου.prophētouG4396.

10ThisοὗτόςhoutosG3778is the one aboutπερὶperiG4012whomοὗhouG3739itis writtenγέγραπται·gegraptaiG1125: ‘BeholdἰδοὺidouG2400,I am sendingἀποστέλλωapostellōG649My messengerἄγγελόνangelonG32aheadπρὸproG4253of You,WhoὃςhosG3739will prepareκατασκευάσειkataskeuaseiG2680Your wayὁδόνhodonG3598beforeἔμπροσθένemprosthenG1715You.’
