Pharaoh’s Dream

1Now it happenedוַיְהִ֕יvay.HiH1961at the endמִקֵּ֖ץmi.KetzH7093of two fullיָמִ֑יםya.MimH3117yearsשְׁנָתַ֣יִםshe.na.Ta.yimH8141that Pharaohוּפַרְעֹ֣הu.far.'OhH6547hadH2492a dreamחֹלֵ֔םcho.LemH2492,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֖הve.hi.NehH2009,he was standingעֹמֵ֥ד'o.MedH5975by the Nileהַיְאֹֽר׃hay.'OrH2975.

2And loוְהִנֵּ֣הve.hi.NehH2009,from the Nileהַיְאֹ֗רhay.'OrH2975there cameעֹלֹת֙'o.LotH5927up sevenשֶׁ֣בַעShe.va'H7651cowsפָּר֔וֹתpa.RotH6510,sleekיְפ֥וֹתye.FotH3303andfatוּבְרִיאֹ֣תu.ve.ri.'OtH1277;and they grazedוַתִּרְעֶ֖ינָהva.tir.'Ei.nahH7462in themarshH260grassH260.

3Then beholdוְהִנֵּ֞הve.hi.NehH2009,sevenשֶׁ֧בַעShe.va'H7651otherאֲחֵר֗וֹת'a.che.RotH312cowsפָּר֣וֹתpa.RotH6510cameעֹל֤וֹתo.LotH5927up afterאַחֲרֵיהֶן֙'a.cha.rei.HenH310them from the Nileהַיְאֹ֔רhay.'OrH2975,uglyרָע֥וֹתra.'otH7451andgauntוְדַקּ֣וֹת בָּשָׂ֑רve.da.Kot ba.SarH1851 H1320,and they stoodוַֽתַּעֲמֹ֛דְנָהva.ta.'a.Mo.de.nahH5975by the othercowsהַפָּר֖וֹתha.pa.RotH6510on the bankשְׂפַ֥תse.FatH8193of the Nileהַיְאֹֽר׃hay.'OrH2975.

6Then beholdוְהִנֵּה֙ve.hi.NehH2009,sevenשֶׁ֣בַעShe.va'H7651earsשִׁבֳּלִ֔יםshi.bo.LimH7641,thinדַּקּ֖וֹתda.KotH1851and scorchedוּשְׁדוּפֹ֣תu.she.du.FotH7710by the eastקָדִ֑יםka.DimH6921windH6921,sproutedצֹמְח֖וֹתtzo.me.ChotH6779up afterאַחֲרֵיהֶֽן׃'a.cha.rei.HenH310them.

10Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֖הpar.'OhH6547wasfuriousקָצַ֣ףka.TzafH7107with his servantsעֲבָדָ֑יו'a.va.DavH5650, andhe putוַיִּתֵּ֨ןvai.yi.TenH5414me in confinementבְּמִשְׁמַ֗רbe.mish.MarH4929in the houseבֵּ֚יתbeitH1004of the captainשַׂ֣רsarH8269of the bodyguardהַטַּבָּחִ֔יםha.ta.ba.ChimH2876, bothme and the chiefשַׂ֥רsarH8269bakerהָאֹפִֽים׃ha.'o.FimH644.

11We hadוַנַּֽחַלְמָ֥הva.na.chal.MahH2492a dreamחֲל֛וֹםcha.LomH2472on the sameאֶחָ֖ד'e.ChadH259nightבְּלַ֥יְלָהbe.Lay.lahH3915,he and I; eachאִ֛ישׁ'ishH376of us dreamedחָלָֽמְנוּ׃cha.La.me.nuH2492according to the interpretationכְּפִתְר֥וֹןke.fit.RonH6623of his owndreamחֲלֹמ֖וֹcha.lo.MoH2472.

12Now a Hebrewעִבְרִ֗י'iv.RiH5680youthנַ֣עַרNa.'arH5288waswith us thereוְשָׁ֨םve.ShamH8033, aservantעֶ֚בֶד'E.vedH5650of the captainלְשַׂ֣רle.SarH8269of the bodyguardהַטַּבָּחִ֔יםha.ta.ba.ChimH2876,and we relatedוַנְּ֨סַפֶּר־va.Ne.sa.per-H5608them to him, andhe interpretedוַיִּפְתָּר־vai.yif.tor-H6622our dreamsחֲלֹמֹתֵ֑ינוּcha.lo.mo.Tei.nuH2472for us. To eachH376oneH376he interpretedפָּתָֽר׃pa.TarH6622according to his owndreamכַּחֲלֹמ֖וֹka.cha.lo.MoH2472.

13And justH3512as he interpretedפָּֽתַר־pa.tar-H6622for us, soכֵּ֣ןkenH3651it happenedH1961;he restoredהֵשִׁ֥יבhe.ShivH7725me in myofficeכַּנִּ֖יka.NiH3653,but he hangedתָלָֽה׃ta.LahH8518him.”

14Then Pharaohפַּרְעֹה֙par.'OhH6547sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971andcalledוַיִּקְרָ֣אvai.yik.Ra'H7121for Josephיוֹסֵ֔ףyo.SefH3130, and theyhurriedlyH7323broughtH7323him out of the dungeonהַבּ֑וֹרha.BorH953;and when he had shavedוַיְגַלַּח֙vay.ga.LachH1548himself and changedוַיְחַלֵּ֣ףvay.cha.LefH2498his clothesשִׂמְלֹתָ֔יוsim.lo.TavH8071,he cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Pharaohפַּרְעֹֽה׃par.'OhH6547.

15Pharaohפַּרְעֹה֙par.'OhH6547saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Josephיוֹסֵ֔ףyo.SefH3130, “I have hadחָלַ֔מְתִּיcha.Lam.tiH2492a dreamחֲל֣וֹםcha.LomH2472,but noH369oneH369can interpretוּפֹתֵ֖רu.fo.TerH6622it; andI have heardשָׁמַ֤עְתִּיsha.Ma'.tiH8085it saidלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559aboutעָלֶ֙יךָ֙'a.Lei.khaH5921you, thatwhen you hearתִּשְׁמַ֥עtish.Ma'H8085a dreamחֲל֖וֹםcha.LomH2472you can interpretלִפְתֹּ֥רlif.TorH6622it.”

16Josephיוֹסֵ֧ףyo.SefH3130then answeredוַיַּ֨עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֛הpar.'OhH6547,sayingלֵאמֹ֖רle.MorH559, “It is not in me;Godאֱלֹהִ֕ים'E.lo.HimH430willgiveH6030Pharaohפַּרְעֹֽה׃par.'OhH6547a favorableשְׁל֥וֹםshe.LomH7965answerיַעֲנֶ֖הya.'a.NehH6030.”

17So Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֖הpar.'OhH6547spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696to Josephיוֹסֵ֑ףyo.SefH3130, “In my dreamבַּחֲלֹמִ֕יba.cha.lo.MiH2472,beholdH2009,I was standingעֹמֵ֖ד'o.MedH5975on the bankשְׂפַ֥תse.FatH8193of the Nileהַיְאֹֽר׃hay.'OrH2975;
