2 Kings 7
American Standard Version
1And ElishaH477 saidH559, HearH8085 ye the wordH1697 of Jehovah: thusH3541 saith Jehovah, To-morrow about this timeH6256 shall a measure of fineH5560 flourH5560 be sold for a shekelH8255, and two measures of barleyH8184 for a shekelH8255, in the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111. 2Then the captain on whose handH3027 the kingH4428 leanedH8172 answered the manH376 of GodH430, and saidH559, Behold, if Jehovah should makeH6213 windowsH699 in heavenH8064, might this thingH1697 beH1961? And he saidH559, Behold, thou shalt seeH7200 it with thine eyesH5869, but shalt not eatH398 thereof.
3Now there wereH1961 fourH702 leprousH6879 menH376 at the entranceH6607 of the gateH8179: and they saidH559 oneH376 to another, WhyH4100 sitH3427 we hereH6311 until we dieH4191? 4If we sayH559, We will enter into the cityH5892, then the famineH7458 is in the cityH5892, and we shall dieH4191 there; and if we sitH3427 still hereH6311, we dieH4191 also. NowH6258 thereforeH6258 comeH935, and let us fallH5307 unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us aliveH2421, we shall live; and if they killH4191 us, we shall but dieH4191. 5And they roseH6965 up in the twilightH5399, to goH935 unto the campH4264 of the Syrians; and when they were comeH935 to the outermost part of the campH4264 of the Syrians, behold, there was no manH376 there. 6For the LordH136 had madeH8085 the host of the Syrians to hearH8085 a noise of chariotsH7393, and a noise of horsesH5483, even the noise of a greatH1419 host: and they saidH559 oneH376 to another, Lo, the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 hath hiredH7936 against us the kingsH4428 of the HittitesH2850, and the kingsH4428 of the Egyptians, to comeH935 upon us. 7Wherefore they aroseH6965 and fledH5127 in the twilightH5399, and leftH5800 their tentsH168, and their horsesH5483, and their asses, even the campH4264 as it was, and fledH5127 for their lifeH5315. 8And when these lepers cameH935 to the outermost part of the campH4264, they wentH935 into oneH259 tentH168, and did eatH398 and drinkH8354, and carriedH5375 thence silverH3701, and goldH2091, and raiment, and wentH935 and hidH2934 it; and they cameH935 backH7725, and entered into another tentH168, and carriedH5375 thence also, and wentH935 and hidH2934 it.
9Then they saidH559 oneH376 to another, We do not well; this dayH3117 is a dayH3117 of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morningH1242 lightH216, punishmentH5771 will overtake us; nowH6258 thereforeH3651 comeH935, let us goH935 and tellH5046 the king’sH4428 householdH1004. 10So they cameH935 and calledH7121 unto the porter of the cityH5892; and they toldH5046 them, sayingH559, We cameH935 to the campH4264 of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no manH376 there, neither voiceH6963 of manH376, but the horsesH5483 tied, and the asses tied, and the tentsH168 as they were. 11And he calledH7121 the porters; and they toldH5046 it to the king’sH4428 householdH1004 within. 12And the kingH4428 aroseH6965 in the nightH3915, and saidH559 unto his servantsH5650, I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They knowH3045 that we are hungryH7457; therefore are they goneH3318 out of the campH4264 to hideH2247 themselves in the fieldH7704, sayingH559, When they comeH935 out of the cityH5892, we shall take them aliveH2416, and get into the cityH5892. 13And oneH259 of his servantsH5650 answered and saidH559, Let some takeH3947, I pray thee, fiveH2568 of the horsesH5483 that remainH7604, which are leftH7604 in the city (behold, they are as all the multitudeH1995 of IsraelH3478 that are leftH7604 in it; behold, they are as all the multitudeH1995 of IsraelH3478 that are consumed); and let us sendH7971 and seeH7200. 14They tookH3947 therefore twoH8147 chariotsH7393 with horsesH5483; and the kingH4428 sentH7971 after the host of the Syrians, sayingH559, GoH7971 and seeH7200. 15And they wentH7725 after them unto the JordanH3383: and, lo, all the wayH1870 was fullH4392 of garmentsH899 and vesselsH3627, which the Syrians had castH7993 awayH7725 in their haste. And the messengersH4397 returnedH7725, and toldH5046 the kingH4428.
16And the peopleH5971 wentH3318 out, and plunderedH962 the campH4264 of the Syrians. So a measure of fineH5560 flourH5560 wasH1961 sold for a shekelH8255, and two measures of barleyH8184 for a shekelH8255, according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah. 17And the kingH4428 appointedH6485 the captain on whose handH3027 he leanedH8172 to have the charge of the gateH8179: and the peopleH5971 trod upon him in the gateH8179, and he diedH4191 as the manH376 of GodH430 had saidH1696, who spake whenH834 the kingH4428 cameH3381 downH3381 to him. 18And it came to pass, as the manH376 of GodH430 had spokenH1696 to the kingH4428, sayingH559, Two measures of barleyH8184 for a shekelH8255, and a measure of fineH5560 flourH5560 for a shekelH8255, shall beH1961 to-morrow about this timeH6256 in the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111; 19and that captain answered the manH376 of GodH430, and saidH559, Now, behold, if Jehovah should makeH6213 windowsH699 in heavenH8064, might such a thingH1697 beH1961? and he saidH559, Behold, thou shalt seeH7200 it with thine eyesH5869, but shalt not eatH398 thereof: 20it came to pass even soH3651 unto him; for the peopleH5971 trod upon him in the gateH8179, and he diedH4191.
