Elisha Promises Food

1Then ElishaH477 saidH559, “ListenH8085 to the wordH1697 of the LordH3068; thisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 the LordH3068 saysH559: ‘1About this timeH6256 tomorrowH4279 a 2measureH5429 of fineH5560 flourH5560 will be sold for a shekelH8255, and two measuresH5429 of barleyH8184 for a shekelH8255, at the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111.’” 23The royalH4428 officerH7991 on whoseH834 handH3027 the kingH4428 was leaningH8172 respondedH6030 to the manH376 of GodH430 and saidH559, “4EvenH2009 ifH2009 the LordH3068 were to makeH6213 5windowsH699 in heavenH8064, could thisH2088 thingH1697 happenH1961?” Then he saidH559, “BeholdH2009, you are going to seeH7200 it with your own eyesH5869, but you will not eatH398 6any of it.”

Four Men with Leprosy Report Arameans’ Flight

3Now there were fourH702 7leprousH6879 menH376 at the entranceH6607 of the gateH8179; and they saidH559 to oneH376 anotherH7453, “WhyH4100 are we sittingH3427 hereH6311 untilH5704 we dieH4191? 4IfH518 we sayH559, ‘We will enterH935 the cityH5892,’ then the famineH7458 is in the cityH5892 and we will dieH4191 thereH8033; but ifH518 we sitH3427 hereH6311, we will also dieH4191. NowH6258 then comeH1980, and let’s goH5307 overH5307 to 8the campH4264 of the ArameansH758. IfH518 they spareH2421 us, we will liveH2421; and ifH518 they killH4191 us, then we will dieH4191.” 5So they gotH6965 upH6965 at twilightH5399 to goH935 to the campH4264 of the ArameansH758; when they cameH935 to the outskirtsH7097 of the campH4264 of the ArameansH758, beholdH2009, thereH369 wasH369 noH369 oneH376 thereH8033. 6For 9the LordH136 had made the armyH4264 of the ArameansH758 hearH8085 a soundH6963 of chariotsH7393, a soundH6963 of horsesH5483, that is, the soundH6963 of a greatH1419 armyH2428; and they saidH559 to oneH376 anotherH251, “BeholdH2009, the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 has hiredH7936 10the kingsH4428 of the HittitesH2850 and 11the kingsH4428 of the EgyptiansH4714 againstH5921 us, to 12attackH935 us!” 7So they 13gotH6965 upH6965 and fledH5127 at twilightH5399, and abandonedH5800 their tentsH168, their horsesH5483, and their donkeysH2543--indeed the campH4264 itself, justH3512 asH3512 it was; and they fledH5127 for their livesH5315. 8When theseH428 menH428 withH6879 leprosyH6879 cameH935 to the outskirtsH7097 of the campH4264, they enteredH935 oneH259 tentH168 and ateH398 and drankH8354, and 14carriedH5375 from thereH8033 silverH3701, goldH2091, and clothesH899, and they wentH1980 and hidH2934 them; then they returnedH7725 and enteredH935 anotherH312 tentH168, and carriedH5375 valuables from thereH8033 also, and wentH1980 and hidH2934 them.

9Then they saidH559 to oneH376 anotherH7453, “We are not doingH6213 the rightH3653 thing. ThisH2088 dayH3117 is a dayH3117 of goodH1309 newsH1309, but we are keepingH2814 silentH2814 about it; if we waitH2442 untilH5704 the morningH1242 lightH216, punishmentH5771 will 15overtakeH4672 us. NowH6258 then comeH1980, let’s goH935 and informH5046 the king’sH4428 householdH1004.” 10So they cameH935 and calledH7121 to the gatekeepersH7778 of the cityH5892, and toldH5046 them, sayingH559, “We cameH935 to the campH4264 of the ArameansH758, and beholdH2009, thereH369 wasH369 noH369 oneH376 thereH8033, norH369 a humanH120 voiceH6963; onlyH3588H518 the horsesH5483 tiedH631 and the donkeysH2543 tiedH631, and the tentsH168 justH3512 asH3512 they were.” 11And the gatekeepersH7778 calledH7121 and announcedH5046 it insideH6441 the king’sH4428 houseH1004. 12Then the kingH4428 gotH6965 upH6965 in the nightH3915 and saidH559 to his servantsH5650, “I will nowH4994 tellH5046 you whatH834 the ArameansH758 have doneH6213 to us. They knowH3045 that 16we are hungryH7457; so they have leftH3318H4480 the campH4264 17to hideH2247 themselves in the fieldH7704, sayingH559, ‘WhenH3588 they comeH3318 outH3318 of the cityH5892, we will captureH8610 them aliveH2416 and getH935 into the cityH5892.’” 13OneH259 of his servantsH5650 respondedH6030 and saidH559, “PleaseH4994, have some men takeH3947 fiveH2568 of the horsesH5483 that remainH7604, whichH834 are leftH7604 18in the city. BeholdH2009, they will be in any case like allH3605 the multitudeH1995 of IsraelH3478 whoH834 are leftH7604 in it; beholdH2009, they will be like allH3605 the multitudeH1995 of IsraelH3478 whoH834 have already perishedH8552, so let us sendH7971 them and seeH7200.” 14Therefore they tookH3947 twoH8147 chariotsH7393 with horsesH5483, and the kingH4428 sentH7971 them afterH310 the armyH4264 of the ArameansH758, sayingH559, “GoH1980 and seeH7200.”

The Promise Fulfilled

15They wentH1980 afterH310 them to the JordanH3383, and beholdH2009, allH3605 the wayH1870 was fullH4392 of clothesH899 and equipmentH3627 whichH834 the ArameansH758 had thrownH7993 awayH7993 when they fledH2648 inH2648 aH2648 hurryH2648. Then the messengersH4397 returnedH7725 and informedH5046 the kingH4428.

16So the peopleH5971 wentH3318 outH3318 and plunderedH962 the campH4264 of the ArameansH758. Then a 19measureH5429 of fineH5560 flourH5560 was sold for a shekelH8255, and two 20measuresH5429 of barleyH8184 for a shekelH8255, 21in accordance with the wordH1697 of the LordH3068. 17Now the kingH4428 appointedH6485 22the royalH7991 officerH7991 on whoseH834 handH3027 he leanedH8172 23to be inH5921 chargeH5921 ofH5921 the gateH8179; but the peopleH5971 trampledH7429 onH7429 him at the gateH8179, and he diedH4191, justH3512 asH3512 the manH376 of GodH430 had saidH1696, 24whoH834 spokeH1696 when the kingH4428 cameH3381 downH3381 to him. 18So it happenedH1961 just as the manH376 of GodH430 had spokenH1696 to the kingH4428, sayingH559, “25Two 26measuresH5429 of barleyH8184 for a shekelH8255 and a 27measureH5429 of fineH5560 flourH5560 for a shekelH8255, will be sold about this timeH6256 tomorrowH4279 at the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111.” 19At that time the royalH7991 officerH7991 had respondedH6030 to the manH376 of GodH430 and saidH559, “Now evenH2009 ifH2009 28the LordH3068 were to makeH6213 windowsH699 in heavenH8064, could such a thingH1697 as thisH2088 happenH1961?” And he had saidH559, “BeholdH2009, you are going to seeH7200 it with your own eyesH5869, but you will not eatH398 29any of it.” 20And thisH3651 is whatH3651 happenedH1961 to him, for the peopleH5971 trampledH7429 onH7429 him at the gateH8179 and he diedH4191.
