2 Kings 13
American Standard Version
1In the threeH7969 and twentieth yearH8141 of JoashH3101 the sonH1121 of AhaziahH274, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, JehoahazH3059 the sonH1121 of JehuH3058 began to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111, and reignedH4427 seventeen yearsH8141. 2And he did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, and followed the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, wherewith he madeH6213 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398; he departedH5493 not therefrom. 3And the angerH639 of Jehovah was kindled against IsraelH3478, and he delivered them into the handH3027 of HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria, and into the handH3027 of Ben-hadadH1130 the sonH1121 of HazaelH2371, continually. 4And JehoahazH3059 besought Jehovah, and Jehovah hearkened unto him; for he sawH7200 the oppressionH3906 of IsraelH3478, how that the kingH4428 of Syria oppressedH3905 them. 5(And Jehovah gaveH5414 IsraelH3478 a saviour, so that they wentH3318 out from under the handH3027 of the Syrians; and the children of IsraelH3478 dweltH3427 in their tentsH168 as beforetime. 6NeverthelessH389 they departed not from the sinsH2398 of the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, wherewith he made IsraelH3478 to sinH2398, but walkedH1980 therein: and there remainedH5975 the AsherahH842 alsoH1571 in SamariaH8111.) 7For he leftH7604 not to JehoahazH3059 of the peopleH5971 save fiftyH2572 horsemenH6571, and tenH6235 chariotsH7393, and tenH6235 thousandH505 footmen; for the kingH4428 of Syria destroyedH6 them, and madeH7760 them like the dustH6083 in threshingH1758. 8Now the restH3499 of the acts of JehoahazH3059, and all that he did, and his might, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 9And JehoahazH3059 slept with his fathersH1; and they buriedH6912 him in SamariaH8111: and JoashH3101 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
10In the thirtyH7970 and seventh yearH8141 of Joash kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began JehoashH3060 the sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059 to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111, and reignedH4427 sixteen yearsH8141. 11And he did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah; he departed not from all the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, wherewith he madeH6213 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398; but he walkedH1980 therein. 12Now the restH3499 of the acts of JoashH3101, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he foughtH3898 against AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 13And JoashH3101 slept with his fathersH1; and JeroboamH3379 satH3427 upon his throneH3678: and JoashH3101 was buriedH6912 in SamariaH8111 with the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478.
14Now ElishaH477 was fallen sickH2470 of his sicknessH2483 whereof he diedH4191: and JoashH3101 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 cameH3381 downH3381 unto him, and weptH1058 over him, and saidH559, My fatherH1, my fatherH1, the chariotsH7393 of IsraelH3478 and the horsemenH6571 thereof! 15And ElishaH477 saidH559 unto him, TakeH3947 bowH7198 and arrowsH2671; and he tookH3947 unto him bowH7198 and arrowsH2671. 16And he saidH559 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, PutH7760 thy handH3027 upon the bowH7198; and he putH7760 his handH3027 upon it. And ElishaH477 laid his handsH3027 upon the king’sH4428 handsH3027. 17And he saidH559, OpenH6605 the windowH2474 eastward; and he openedH6605 it. Then ElishaH477 saidH559, ShootH3384; and he shotH3384. And he saidH559, Jehovah’s arrowH2671 of victoryH8668, even the arrowH2671 of victoryH8668 over Syria; for thou shalt smite the Syrians in AphekH663, till thou have consumed them. 18And he saidH559, TakeH3947 the arrowsH2678; and he tookH3947 them. And he saidH559 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, Smite upon the groundH776; and he smote thrice, and stayed. 19And the manH376 of GodH430 was wroth with him, and saidH559, Thou shouldest have smitten fiveH2568 or sixH8337 timesH6471: thenH227 hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it; whereas nowH6258 thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.
20And ElishaH477 diedH4191, and they buriedH6912 him. Now the bandsH1416 of the Moabites invaded the landH776 at the comingH935 in of the yearH8141. 21And it came to pass, as they wereH1961 buryingH6912 a manH376, that, behold, they spied a bandH1416; and they castH7993 the manH376 into the sepulchre of ElishaH477: and as soon as the manH376 touchedH5060 the bonesH6106 of ElishaH477, he revived, and stoodH6965 up on his feetH7272.
22And HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria oppressedH3905 IsraelH3478 all the daysH3117 of JehoahazH3059. 23But Jehovah was gracious unto them, and had compassionH7355 on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenantH1285 with AbrahamH85, IsaacH3327, and JacobH3290, and wouldH14 not destroyH7843 them, neither castH7993 he them from his presenceH6440 as yet. 24And HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria diedH4191; and Ben-hadadH1130 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead. 25And JehoashH3060 the sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059 tookH3947 again out of the handH3027 of Ben-hadadH1130 the sonH1121 of HazaelH2371 the citiesH5892 which he had takenH3947 out of the handH3027 of JehoahazH3059 his fatherH1 by warH4421. ThreeH7969 timesH6471 did Joash smite him, and recovered the citiesH5892 of IsraelH3478.
