2 Kings 13
Revised Version 1895
1In the threeH7969 and twentiethH6242 yearH8141 of JoashH3101 the sonH1121 of AhaziahH274, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, JehoahazH3059 the sonH1121 of JehuH3058 began to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111, and reignedH4427 seventeenH6240 yearsH8141. 2And he didH6213 that whichH834 was evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, and followedH310 the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, wherewith he madeH6213 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398; he departedH5493 notH3808 therefrom. 3And the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 was kindledH2734 againstH2734 IsraelH3478, and he deliveredH5414 them intoH3027 the handH3027 of HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of SyriaH758, and intoH3027 the handH3027 of Ben-hadadH1130 the sonH1121 of HazaelH2371, continuallyH3117. 4And JehoahazH3059 besought the LORDH3068, and the LORDH3068 hearkened unto him: for he sawH7200 the oppressionH3906 of IsraelH3478, howH3588 that the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 oppressedH3905 them. 5(And the LORDH3068 gaveH5414 IsraelH3478 a saviour, soH5414 that they wentH3318 outH3318 from underH8478 the handH3027 of the Syrians: and the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 dweltH3427 in their tentsH168, as beforetime. 6NeverthelessH389 they departedH1980 notH3808 from the sinsH2398 of the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, wherewith he madeH1571 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398, but walkedH1980 therein: and there remainedH5975 the AsherahH842 also in SamariaH8111.) 7For he leftH7604 notH3808 to JehoahazH3059 of the peopleH5971 save fiftyH2572 horsemenH6571, and tenH6235 chariotsH7393, and tenH6235 thousandH505 footmenH7273; for the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 destroyedH6 them, and madeH7760 them like the dustH6083 in threshingH1758. 8NowH3117 the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JehoahazH3059, and allH3605 that he didH6213, and his might, are they notH3808 writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 9And JehoahazH3059 sleptH7901 with his fathersH1; and they buriedH6912 him in SamariaH8111: and JoashH3101 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8478. 10In the thirtyH7970 and seventhH7651 yearH8141 of JoashH3060 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began JehoashH3060 the sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059 to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111, and reignedH4427 sixteenH6240 yearsH8141. 11And he didH6213 that whichH834 was evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068; he departedH1980 notH3808 from allH3605 the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, wherewith he madeH6213 IsraelH3478 to sinH2398: but he walkedH1980 therein. 12NowH3117 the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JoashH3101, and allH3605 that he didH6213, and his might wherewith he foughtH3898 againstH5921 AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, are they notH3808 writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 13And JoashH3101 sleptH7901 with his fathersH1; and JeroboamH3379 satH3427 uponH5921 his throneH3678: and JoashH3101 was buriedH6912 in SamariaH8111 with the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478. 14Now ElishaH477 was fallenH3381 sickH2470 of his sicknessH2483 whereof he diedH4191: and JoashH3101 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 cameH3381 downH3381 unto him, and weptH1058 over him, and saidH559, My fatherH1, my fatherH1, the chariotsH7393 of IsraelH3478 and the horsemenH6571 thereof! 15And ElishaH477 saidH559 unto him, TakeH3947 bowH7198 and arrowsH2671: and he tookH3947 unto him bowH7198 and arrowsH2671. 16And he saidH559 to the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, PutH7760 thine handH3027 uponH5921 the bowH7198: and he putH7760 his handH3027 uponH5921 it. And ElishaH477 laidH7760 his handsH3027 uponH5921 the king’sH4428 handsH3027. 17And he saidH559, OpenH6605 the windowH2474 eastwardH6924: and he openedH6605 it. Then ElishaH477 saidH559, ShootH3384: and he shotH3384. And he saidH559, The LORD’SH3068 arrowH2671 of victoryH8668, evenH5704 the arrowH2671 of victoryH8668 over SyriaH758: for thou shalt smiteH5221 the Syrians in AphekH663, tillH5704 thou have consumedH3615 them. 18And he saidH559, TakeH3947 the arrowsH2678: and he tookH3947 them. And he saidH559 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, SmiteH5221 upon the groundH776: and he smoteH5221 thrice, and stayedH5975. 19And the manH376 of GodH430 was wroth with him, and saidH559, Thou shouldest have smittenH5221 fiveH2568 or sixH8337 timesH6471; then hadst thou smittenH5221 SyriaH758 tillH5704 thou hadst consumedH3615 it: whereasH6258 nowH6258 thou shalt smiteH5221 SyriaH758 but thrice. 20And ElishaH477 diedH4191, and they buriedH6912 him. NowH935 the hands of the MoabitesH4124 invadedH935 the landH776 at the comingH935 in of the yearH8141. 21And it cameH1961 to passH1961, as they were buryingH6912 a manH376, that, beholdH2009, they spied a bandH1416; and they castH7993 the manH376 intoH5921 the sepulchre of ElishaH477: and as soon as the manH376 touchedH5060 the bonesH6106 of ElishaH477, he revivedH2421, and stoodH6965 upH6965 on his feetH7272. 22And HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of SyriaH758 oppressedH3905 IsraelH3478 allH3605 the daysH3117 of JehoahazH3059. 23But the LORDH3068 was gracious unto them, and had compassionH7355 on them, and had respectH6437 unto them, becauseH5921 of his covenantH1285 with AbrahamH85, IsaacH3327, and JacobH3290, and would notH3808 destroyH7843 them, neitherH3808 castH7993 he them from his presenceH6440 as yet. 24And HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of SyriaH758 diedH4191; and Ben-hadadH1130 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8478. 25And JehoashH3060 the sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059 tookH3947 againH7725 outH3027 of the handH3027 of Ben-hadadH1130 the sonH1121 of HazaelH2371 the citiesH5892 whichH834 he had takenH3947 outH3027 of the handH3027 of JehoahazH3059 his fatherH1 by warH4421. ThreeH7969 timesH6471 didH834 JoashH3060 smiteH5221 him; and recoveredH7725 the citiesH5892 of IsraelH3478.
