1 Corinthians 8

Darby Bible

1But concerningG4012 thingsG3956 sacrificed to idols, we know, (for we all have knowledgeG1108: knowledgeG1108 puffs up, but loveG26 edifiesG3618. 2If any oneG5100 thinkG1380 he knowsG1097 anythingG5100, he knowsG1097 nothing yetG3768 as he oughtG1163 to knowG1097 [it]. 3But if any oneG5100 loveG25 1GodG2316, he is knownG1097 of him): 4— concerningG4012 then the eatingG1035 of things sacrificed to idolsG1497, we know that an idolG1497 [is] nothing in [the] worldG2889, and that there [is] no other 2GodG2316 save oneG1520. 5For and if indeed there areG1510 [those] called 3godsG2316, whether in heavenG3772 or on earthG1093, (as there areG1510 4godsG2316 manyG4183, and lordsG2962 manyG4183,) 6yet to us [there is] oneG1520 5GodG2316, the FatherG3962, of whom all thingsG3956, and we for him; and oneG1520 LordG2962, JesusG2424 ChristG5547, by whom [are] all thingsG3956, and we by him. 7But knowledgeG1108 [isG1510] not in all: but some, with conscienceG4893 of the idolG1497, until nowG1161 eatG2068 as of a thing sacrificed to idolsG1497; and their conscienceG4893, beingG1510 weakG772, isG1510 defiled. 8But meat does not commend us to 6GodG2316; neither if we should not eatG2068 do we come shortG5302; nor if we should eatG2068 have we an advantage. 9But seeG991 lestG3361 anywise this your rightG1849 [to eat] itself be a stumbling-block to the weakG772. 10For if any oneG5100 seeG3708 thee, who hast knowledgeG1108, sitting at table in an idol-house, shall not his conscienceG4893, he beingG1510 weakG772, beG1510 emboldened to eatG2068 the things sacrificed to the idol? 11and the weakG770 [oneG3739], the brotherG80 for whose sakeG1223 ChristG5547 diedG599, will perishG622 through thy knowledgeG1108. 12NowG1161, thusG3779 sinningG264 against the brethren, and wounding their weakG770 conscienceG4893, ye sinG264 against ChristG5547. 13Wherefore if meatG2907 be a fall-trap to my brotherG80, I will eatG2068 no flesh for ever, that I may not be a fall-trap to my brotherG80.
