Genesis 27
Revised Version 1895
1And it cameH1961 to passH1961, that when IsaacH3327 was oldH1121, and his eyesH5869 were dim, soH7121 that he could notH1961 seeH7200, he calledH7121 EsauH6215 his elderH1419 sonH1121, and saidH559 unto him, My sonH1121: and he saidH559 unto him, HereH2009 am I. 2And he saidH559, BeholdH2009 nowH4994, I am oldH2204, I knowH3045 notH3808 the dayH3117 of my deathH4194. 3NowH6258 therefore takeH5375, I prayH4994 thee, thy weaponsH3627, thy quiverH8522 and thy bowH7198, and goH3318 outH3318 to the fieldH7704, and takeH5375 meH4994 venison; 4and makeH6213 meH5315 savoury meat, suchH834 as I loveH157, and bringH935 it to meH5315, that I may eatH398; that my soulH5315 may blessH1288 thee beforeH2962 I dieH4191. 5And RebekahH7259 heardH8085 when IsaacH3327 spake to EsauH6215 his sonH1121. And EsauH6215 wentH935 to the fieldH7704 to huntH6679 for venison, and to bringH935 it. 6And RebekahH7259 spake unto JacobH3290 herH413 sonH1121, sayingH559, BeholdH2009, I heardH8085 thy fatherH1 speakH1696 unto EsauH6215 thy brotherH251, sayingH559, 7BringH935 meH6440 venison, and makeH6213 meH6440 savoury meat, that I may eatH398, and blessH1288 thee beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 beforeH6440 my deathH4194. 8NowH6258 therefore, my sonH1121, obeyH8085 my voiceH6963 according to that whichH834 I commandH6680 thee. 9GoH4994 nowH4994 to the flockH6629, and fetch meH413 from thence twoH8147 goodH2896 kids of the goatsH5795; and I will makeH6213 them savoury meat for thy fatherH1, suchH834 as he loveth: 10and thou shalt bringH935 it to thy fatherH1, that he may eatH398, soH834 that he may blessH1288 thee beforeH6440 his deathH4194. 11And JacobH3290 saidH559 to RebekahH7259 his motherH517, BeholdH2005, EsauH6215 my brotherH251 is a hairy manH376, and I am a smoothH2509 manH376. 12My fatherH1 peradventure will feelH4959 meH5921, and I shall seemH5869 to him as a deceiver; and I shall bringH935 a curseH7045 uponH5921 meH5921, and notH3808 a blessingH1293. 13And his motherH517 saidH559 unto him, UponH5921 meH5921 be thy curseH7045, my sonH1121: onlyH389 obeyH8085 my voiceH6963, and go fetch meH5921 them. 14And he wentH935, and fetched, and broughtH935 them to his motherH517: and his motherH517 madeH6213 savoury meat, suchH834 as his fatherH1 lovedH157. 15And RebekahH7259 tookH3947 the goodly raiment of EsauH6215 herH3947 elderH1419 sonH1121, whichH834 were with herH3947 in the houseH1004, and putH3847 them uponH3847 JacobH3290 herH3947 youngerH6996 sonH1121: 16and she putH3847 the skinsH5785 of the kids of the goatsH5795 uponH5921 his handsH3027, and uponH5921 the smooth of his neckH6677: 17and sheH834 gaveH5414 the savoury meat and the breadH3899, whichH834 sheH834 had preparedH6213, intoH3027 the handH3027 of herH5414 sonH1121 JacobH3290. 18And he cameH935 unto his fatherH1, and saidH559, My fatherH1: and he saidH559, HereH2009 am I; who art thou, my sonH1121? 19And JacobH3290 saidH559 unto his fatherH1, I am EsauH6215 thy firstbornH1060; I have doneH6213 accordingH413 as thou badest meH413: ariseH6965, I prayH4994 thee, sitH3427 and eatH398 of my venison, that thy soulH5315 may blessH1288 meH413. 20And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto his sonH1121, HowH4100 is it that thou hast foundH4672 it soH3588 quicklyH4116, my sonH1121? And he saidH559, BecauseH3588 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 sentH559 meH413 good speedH4116. 21And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto JacobH3290, ComeH5066 nearH5066, I prayH4994 thee, that I may feelH4184 thee, my sonH1121, whetherH518 thou be my veryH2088 sonH1121 EsauH6215 or notH3808. 22And JacobH3290 wentH5066 nearH5066 unto IsaacH3327 his fatherH1; and he feltH4959 him, and saidH559, The voiceH6963 is Jacob’sH3290 voiceH6963, but the handsH3027 are the handsH3027 of EsauH6215. 23And he discerned him notH3808, becauseH3588 his handsH3027 were hairy, as his brotherH251 Esau’sH6215 handsH3027: soH1961 he blessedH1288 him. 24And he saidH559, Art thou my veryH2088 sonH1121 EsauH6215? And he saidH559, I am. 25And he saidH559, BringH935 it nearH5066 to meH5315, and I will eatH398 of my son’sH1121 venison, that my soulH5315 may blessH1288 thee. And he broughtH935 it nearH5066 to him, and he did eatH398: and he broughtH935 him wineH3196, and he drankH8354. 26And his fatherH1 IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto him, ComeH5066 nearH5066 nowH4994, and kiss meH413, my sonH1121. 27And he cameH5066 nearH5066, and kissedH5401 him: and he smelledH7306 the smellH7306 of his raiment, and blessedH1288 him, and saidH559, SeeH7200, the smellH7306 of my sonH1121 Is as the smellH7306 of a fieldH7704 whichH834 the LORDH3068 hath blessedH1288: 28And GodH430 giveH5414 thee of the dewH2919 of heavenH8064, And of the fatness of the earthH776, And plentyH7230 of corn and wineH8492: 29Let peoplesH5971 serveH5647 thee, And nationsH5971 bowH7812 downH7812 to thee: Be lordH1376 over thy brethrenH251, And let thy mother’sH517 sonsH1121 bowH7812 downH7812 to thee: CursedH779 be every one that curseth thee, And blessedH1288 be every one that blesseth thee. 30And it cameH935 to passH935, as soonH389 as IsaacH3327 had madeH1961 an endH3615 of blessingH1288 JacobH3290, and JacobH3290 was yet scarce goneH3318 outH3318 from the presenceH6440 of IsaacH3327 his fatherH1, that EsauH6215 his brotherH251 cameH935 in from his hunting. 31And he also madeH6213 savoury meat, and broughtH935 it unto his fatherH1; and he saidH559 unto his fatherH1, LetH5315 my fatherH1 ariseH6965, and eatH398 of his son’sH1121 venison, that thy soulH5315 may blessH1288 meH5315. 32And IsaacH3327 his fatherH1 saidH559 unto him, Who art thou? And he saidH559, I am thy sonH1121, thy firstbornH1060, EsauH6215. 33And IsaacH3327 trembledH2729 veryH3966 exceedinglyH3966, and saidH559, Who then is he that hath takenH1961 venison, and broughtH935 it meH935, and I have eatenH398 of allH3605 beforeH2962 thou camest, and have blessedH1288 him? yea, and he shall be blessedH1288. 34When EsauH6215 heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of his fatherH1, he criedH6817 with an exceedingH3966 greatH1419 and bitterH4751 cryH6818, and saidH559 unto his fatherH1, BlessH1288 meH589, evenH1571 meH589 also, O my fatherH1. 35And he saidH559, Thy brotherH251 cameH935 with guile, and hath takenH3947 awayH3947 thy blessingH1293. 36And he saidH559, Is notH3808 he rightly namedH8034 JacobH3290? for he hath supplantedH6117 meH7121 theseH2088 twoH3947 timesH6471: he tookH3947 awayH3947 my birthrightH1062; and, beholdH2009, nowH6258 he hath takenH3947 awayH3947 my blessingH1293. And he saidH559, Hast thou notH3808 reservedH680 a blessingH1293 for meH7121? 37And IsaacH3327 answeredH559 and saidH559 unto EsauH6215, BeholdH2005, I have madeH6213 him thy lordH1376, and allH3605 his brethrenH251 have I givenH5414 to him for servantsH5650; and with corn and wineH8492 have I sustainedH5564 him: and whatH4100 then shall I doH6213 for thee, my sonH1121? 38And EsauH6215 saidH559 unto his fatherH1, Hast thou but one blessingH1293, my fatherH1? blessH1288 meH413, evenH1571 meH413 also, O my fatherH1. And EsauH6215 liftedH5375 upH5375 his voiceH6963, and weptH1058. 39And IsaacH3327 his fatherH1 answeredH559 and saidH559 unto him, BeholdH2009, of the fatness of the earthH776 shall be thy dwellingH4186, And of the dewH2919 of heavenH8064 from aboveH5921; 40And by thy swordH2719 shalt thou liveH2421, and thou shalt serveH5647 thy brotherH251; And it shall comeH1961 to passH1961 when thou shalt breakH6561 looseH5921, That thou shalt shake his yokeH5923 from offH5921 thy neckH6677. 41And EsauH6215 hatedH7852 JacobH3290 becauseH5921 of the blessingH1293 wherewith his fatherH1 blessedH1288 him: and EsauH6215 saidH559 in his heartH3820, The daysH3117 of mourningH60 for my fatherH1 are at hand; then will I slayH2026 my brotherH251 JacobH3290. 42And the wordsH1697 of EsauH6215 herH413 elderH1419 sonH1121 were toldH5046 to RebekahH7259; and sheH7121 sentH7971 and calledH7121 JacobH3290 herH413 youngerH6996 sonH1121, and saidH559 unto him, BeholdH2009, thy brotherH251 EsauH6215, as touching thee, doth comfortH5162 himselfH413, purposing to killH2026 thee. 43NowH6258 therefore, my sonH1121, obeyH8085 my voiceH6963; and ariseH6965, fleeH1272 thou to LabanH3837 my brotherH251 to HaranH2771; 44and tarry with him a fewH259 daysH3117, untilH5704 thy brother’sH251 furyH2534 turnH7725 awayH7725; 45untilH5704 thy brother’sH251 angerH639 turnH7725 awayH7971 from thee, and he forgetH7911 that whichH834 thou hast doneH6213 to him: then I will sendH7971, and fetch thee from thence: whyH4100 should I be bereavedH7921 of youH834 bothH8147 in one dayH3117? 46And RebekahH7259 saidH559 to IsaacH3327, I am weary of my lifeH2416 becauseH6440 of the daughtersH1323 of HethH2845: ifH518 JacobH3290 takeH3947 a wifeH802 of the daughtersH1323 of HethH2845, suchH428 as theseH428, of the daughtersH1323 of the landH776, whatH4100 good shall my lifeH2416 doH4100 meH413?
