Matthew 2:5-23
They saidG3004 to him, “1In BethlehemG965 of JudeaG2449; for thisG3779 is whatG3704 has been writtenG1125 2by 3the prophetG4396:6‘4And you, BethlehemG965, landG1093 of JudahG2455, Are by noG3760 meansG3760 leastG1646 amongG1722 the leadersG2233 of JudahG2455; For from you will comeG1831 forthG1831 a RulerG2233 WhoG3748 will 5shepherdG4165 My peopleG2992 IsraelG2474.’”
ThenG5119 HerodG2264 secretlyG2977 calledG2564 for the magiG3097 and determinedG198 from them the exactG5550 6timeG5550 7the starG792 appearedG5316. 8And he sentG3992 them to BethlehemG965 and saidG3004, “GoG4198 and searchG1833 carefullyG199 for the ChildG3813; and whenG1875 you have foundG2147 Him, reportG518 to me, soG3704 thatG3704 I tooG2532 may comeG2064 and worshipG4352 Him.” 9AfterG1161 hearingG191 the kingG935, they wentG4198 onG4198 their wayG4198; and beholdG2400, the starG792, whichG3739 they had seenG3708 in the eastG395, wentG4254 on aheadG4254 of them untilG2193 it cameG2064 to a stopG2476 overG1883 the place whereG3757 the ChildG3813 was to be found. 10When they sawG3708 the starG792, they rejoicedG5463 exceedinglyG4970 with greatG3173 joyG5479. 11And afterG2532 they cameG2064 into the houseG3614, they sawG3708 the ChildG3813 with 8His motherG3384 MaryG3137; and they fellG4098 downG4098 and 910worshipedG4352 Him. ThenG2532 they openedG455 their treasuresG2344 and presentedG4374 to Him giftsG1435 of goldG5557, frankincenseG3030, and myrrhG4666. 12And after being 11warnedG5537 by God 12in a dreamG3677 not to returnG344 to HerodG2264, the magi leftG402 for their own countryG5561 by anotherG243 wayG3598.
NowG1161 when they had goneG402, beholdG2400, an 13angelG32 of the LordG2962 14appearedG5316 to JosephG2501 in a dreamG3677 and saidG3004, “GetG1453 upG1453! TakeG3880 the ChildG3813 and His motherG3384 and fleeG5343 to EgyptG125, and stayG1510 thereG1563 untilG2193 I tellG3004 you; for HerodG2264 isG3195 goingG3195 toG3195 searchG2212 forG2212 the ChildG3813 to killG622 Him.”
SoG1161 15Joseph gotG1453 upG1453 and tookG3880 the ChildG3813 and His motherG3384 while it was still nightG3571, and leftG402 for EgyptG125. 15He 16stayedG1510 thereG1563 untilG2193 the deathG5054 of HerodG2264; this happened soG2443 thatG2443 whatG3588 had been spokenG3004 by the LordG2962 throughG1223 17the prophetG4396 would be fulfilledG4137: “18Out of EgyptG125 I calledG2564 19My SonG5207.”
ThenG5119 when HerodG2264 sawG3708 that he had been trickedG1702 by 20the magiG3097, he became veryG3029 enragedG2373, and sentG649 men and 21killedG337 allG3956 the boysG3816 who were in BethlehemG965 and allG3956 its vicinityG3725 22who were twoG1332 yearsG1332 oldG1332 or underG2737, accordingG2596 to the timeG5550 whichG3739 he had determinedG198 from the magiG3097. 17ThenG5119 whatG3588 had been spokenG3004 throughG1223 JeremiahG2408 the prophetG4396 was fulfilledG4137:18“23A voiceG5456 was heardG191 in RamahG4471, WeepingG2805 and greatG4183 mourningG3602, RachelG4478 weepingG2805 for her childrenG5043; And she refusedG3756G2309 to be comfortedG3870, BecauseG3754 they were noG3756 more.”
But when HerodG2264 diedG5053, beholdG2400, an angelG32 of the LordG2962 24appearedG5316 in a dreamG3677 to JosephG2501 in EgyptG125, and saidG3004, 20“GetG1453 upG1453, takeG3880 the ChildG3813 and His motherG3384, and goG4198 to the landG1093 of IsraelG2474; for thoseG3588 who soughtG2212 the Child’sG3813 lifeG5590 are deadG2348.” 21SoG1161 25Joseph gotG1453 upG1453, tookG3880 the ChildG3813 and His motherG3384, and cameG1525 into the landG1093 of IsraelG2474. 22But when he heardG191 that ArchelausG745 was reigningG936 over JudeaG2449 inG473 placeG473 ofG473 his fatherG3962 HerodG2264, he wasG5399 afraidG5399 to goG565 thereG1563. ThenG1161 after being 26warnedG5537 by God in a dreamG3677, he leftG402 for the regionsG3313 of GalileeG1056, 23and cameG2064 and settledG2730 in a cityG4172 calledG3004 27NazarethG3478. This happened soG3704 thatG3704 whatG3588 was spokenG3004 throughG1223 the prophetsG4396 would be fulfilledG4137: “He will be calledG2564 a 28NazareneG3480.”
