5A manἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444was thereἐκεῖekeiG1563who had beenἔχωνechōnG2192illἀσθενείᾳastheneiaG769for thirty-eightτριάκοντα ὀκτὼtriakonta oktōG5144 G3638yearsἔτηetēG2094.

6When JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424sawG3708him lyingκατακείμενον,katakeimenonG2621there,and knewγνοὺςgnousG1097that he had alreadyἤδηēdēG2235beenἔχει,echeiG2192a longπολὺνpolunG4183timeχρόνονchrononG5550in that condition,He saidλέγειlegeiG3004to him,“Do you wishθέλειςtheleisG2309to getγενέσθαι;genesthaiG1096wellὑγιὴςhugiēsG5199?”

7The sickἀσθενῶν·asthenōnG770man answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611Him, “Sirκύριε,kurieG2962,I haveἔχωechōG2192noοὐκoukG3756manἄνθρωπονanthrōponG444to putβάλῃbalēG906me into the poolκολυμβήθραν·kolumbēthranG2861whenὅτανhotanG3752the waterὕδωρhudōrG5204is stirredταραχθῇtarachthēaG5015up, but whileἐν ᾧen hōG1722 G3739I am comingἔρχομαιerchomaiG2064,anotherἄλλοςallosG243stepsG2597downG2597beforeπρὸproG4253me.”

8JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidλέγειlegeiG3004to him, “Getἔγειρε,egeireG1453up, pickἆρονaronG142up your palletκράβαττόνkrabattonG2895and walkπεριπάτει.peripateiG4043.”

9ImmediatelyεὐθέωςeutheōsG2112the manἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444becameἐγένετοegenetoG1096wellὑγιὴςhugiēsG5199,and pickedἦρενērenG142up his palletκράβαττονkrabattonG2895and beganto walkπεριεπάτει·periepateiG4043.NowδὲdeG1161it was the SabbathσάββατονsabbatonG4521on that dayἡμέρᾳ.hēmeraG2250.

10SoοὖνounG3767the JewsἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiG2453were sayingἔλεγονelegonG3004to the man who was curedτεθεραπευμένῳ·tetherapeumenōG2323, “It is the SabbathσάββατόνsabbatonG4521, andit is not permissibleἔξεστίνexestinG1832for you to carryἆραιaraiG142your palletκράβαττόνkrabattonG2895.”

11But he answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611them, “He who madeποιήσαςpoiēsasG4160me wellὑγιῆ,hugiēG5199was the oneἐκεῖνόςekeinosG1565who saidG3004to me,‘PickἆρονaronG142up your palletκράβαττόνkrabattonG2895and walkπεριπάτει.peripateiG4043.’”

12They askedἠρώτησανērōtēsanG2065him, “WhoτίςtisG5101is the manἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444who saidG3004to you,‘PickἆρονaronG142up your palletand walkπεριπάτει;peripateiG4043’?”

13But the man who was healedἰαθεὶςiatheisG2390did not knowG3609whoτίςtisG5101it was, for JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424had slippedG1593awayG1593while there was a crowdὄχλουochlouG3793in thatplaceτόπῳ.¶topōG5117.

14Afterwardμετὰ ταῦταmeta tautaG3326 G3778JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424foundεὑρίσκειheuriskeiG2147him in the templeG2413and saidG3004to him,“BeholdἴδεideG2396,you have becomeγέγονας·gegonasG1096wellὑγιὴςhugiēsG5199; do notsinἁμάρτανεhamartaneG264anymoreμηκέτιmēketiG3371,soἵναinaG2443that nothingμὴ τιmē tiG3361 G5100worseχεῖρόνcheironG5501happensγένηται.genētaiG1096to you.”

15The manἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444wentG565awayἀπῆλθενapēlthenG565,and toldG3004the JewsἸουδαίοιςIoudaioisG2453that it was JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424who had madeποιήσαςpoiēsasG4160him wellὑγιῆ.hugiēG5199.

16For thisG3778reasonδιὰdiaG1223the JewsἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiG2453were persecutingἐδίωκονediōkonG1377JesusἸησοῦνIēsounG2424,becauseὅτιhotiG3754He was doingἐποίειepoieiG4160theseG3778thingsG3778on the Sabbathσαββάτῳ.¶sabbatōG4521.

17But He answeredἀπεκρίνατοapekrinatoG611them,“My FatherπατήρpatērG3962is workingἐργάζεται,ergazetaiG2038untilἕωςhe'ōsG2193nowἄρτιartiG737,and I MyselfκἀγὼkagōkaiG1473am workingἐργάζομαι.ergazomaiG2038.”

18For thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778reasonδιὰdiaG1223thereforeοὖνounG3767the JewsἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiG2453were seekingἐζήτουνezētounG2212all the moreμᾶλλονmallonG3123to killἀποκτεῖναι,apokteinaiG615Him, becauseὅτιhotiG3754He not onlyG3440was breakingἔλυενeluenG3089the Sabbathσάββατον,sabbatonG4521,but alsoκαὶkaiG2532was callingἔλεγενelegenG3004GodθεὸνtheonG2316His ownἴδιονidionG2398FatherπατέραpateraG3962,makingποιῶνpoiōnG4160Himselfἑαυτὸνhe'autonG1438equalἴσονisonG2470with Godθεῷ.theōG2316.
