Matthew 15:1-13

1Then the scribesG1122 and PhariseesG5330 from JerusalemG2414 comeG4334 up to JesusG2424, sayingG3004,

2WhyG5101 do thy disciplesG3101 transgress what has been delivered by the ancients? for they do not washG3538 their handsG5495 whenG3752 they eatG2068 breadG740.

3But he answeringG611 saidG3004 to them, WhyG5101 do ye alsoG2532 transgress the commandmentG1785 of 1GodG2316 on accountG1223 of your traditional teaching?

4For 2GodG2316 commandedG1781 sayingG3004, Honour fatherG3962 and motherG3384; and, He that speaksG3004 ill of fatherG3962 or motherG3384, let him die the deathG2288.

5But ye sayG3004, Whosoever shall sayG3004 to his fatherG3962 or motherG3384, It is a giftG1435, whatsoever [it be] by which [received] from me thou wouldest be profitedG5623:

6and he shall in no wise honour his fatherG3962 or his mother; and ye have made void the commandment of 3GodG2316 on accountG3056 of your traditional teaching.

7HypocritesG5273! wellG2573 has Esaias prophesiedG4395 about you, sayingG3004,

8This peopleG2992 honour me with the lipsG5491, but their heartG2588 is farG4206 awayG575 from me;

9but in vainG3155 do they worshipG4576 me, teachingG1321 [as] teachingsG1319 commandments of menG444.

10And having called to [him] the crowdG3793, he saidG3004 to them, HearG191 and understandG4920:

11Not what entersG1525 into the mouthG4750 defilesG2840 the manG444; but what goes forthG1607 out of the mouthG4750, this defilesG2840 the manG444.

12ThenG5119 his disciplesG3101, comingG4334 up, saidG3004 to him, Dost thou know that the PhariseesG5330, having heardG191 this wordG3056, have been offendedG4624?

13But he answeringG611 saidG3004, Every plant which my heavenlyG3770 FatherG3962 has not plantedG5452 shall be rooted up.
