2 Peter 2
Darby Bible
1But there wereG1510 falseG5578 prophetsG5578 alsoG2532 among the peopleG2992, as there shall beG1510 alsoG2532 among you falseG5578 teachers, who shall bring in by the bye destructive heresies, and denyG720 the masterG1203 that boughtG59 them, bringing upon themselves swift destructionG684; 2and manyG4183 shall followG1811 their dissolute waysG3598, through whom the wayG3598 of the truthG225 shall be blasphemedG987. 3And through covetousnessG4124, with well-turned wordsG3056, will they make merchandise of you: for whom judgmentG2917 of old is not idle, and their destructionG684 slumbers not. 4For if 1GodG2316 spared not [the] angelsG32 who had sinnedG264, but having cast them down to the deepest pit of gloomG2217 has deliveredG3860 them to chains of darknessG2217 [to be] keptG5083 for judgmentG2920; 5and spared not [the] oldG744 worldG2889, but preserved Noe, [the] eighthG3590, a preacher of righteousnessG1343, having brought in [the] floodG2627 upon [the] worldG2889 of [the] ungodlyG765; 6and having reduced [the] citiesG4172 of SodomG4670 and Gomorrha to ashes, condemnedG2632 [them] with an overthrow, setting [them as] an exampleG5262 to those that should [afterwards] live an ungodlyG765 life; 7and saved righteousG1342 LotG3091, distressed with the abandoned conversation of the 2godless, 8(for the righteousG1342 manG1342 through seeing and hearingG189, dwelling among them, tormentedG928 [his] righteousG1342 soulG5590 dayG2250 after dayG2250 with [their] lawlessG459 worksG2041,) 9[the] LordG2962 knows [how] to deliverG4506 the 3godly out of trialG3986, and to keepG5083 [the] unjustG94 to [the] dayG2250 of judgmentG2920 [to be] punished; 10and specially those who walk after the fleshG4561 in [the] lustG1939 of uncleanness, and despiseG2706 lordship. Bold [are they], self-willed; they do not fear speaking injuriously of dignities: 11when angelsG32, who areG1510 greaterG3173 in might and powerG1411, do not bringG5342 against them, before the LordG2962, an injurious charge. 12But these, as naturalG5446 animalsG2226 without reason, made to be caught and destroyed, speaking injuriously in thingsG3778 they are ignorantG50 of, shall alsoG2532 perish in their own corruption, 13receivingG2865 [the] rewardG3408 of unrighteousnessG93; accounting ephemeral indulgence pleasure; spots and blemishes, rioting in their own deceits, feastingG4910 with you; 14having eyesG3788 fullG3324 of adultery, and that cease not from sinG266, alluring unestablished soulsG5590; having a heartG2588 practised in covetousnessG4124, childrenG5043 of curseG2671; 15having leftG2641 [the] straightG2117 wayG3598 they have gone astrayG4105, having followedG1811 in the pathG3598 of BalaamG903 [the son] of Bosor, who lovedG25 [the] rewardG3408 of unrighteousnessG93; 16but had reproof of his ownG2398 wickedness — [the] dumb ass speaking with man's voiceG5456 forbad the folly of the prophetG4396. 17These areG1510 springsG4077 without waterG504, and mists driven by stormG2978, to whom the gloomG2217 of darknessG4655 isG1510 reserved [for ever]. 18For [while] speaking great highflown words of vanity, they allure with [the] lustsG1939 of [the] fleshG4561, by dissoluteness, those who have just fled those who walk in errorG4106, 19promisingG1861 them liberty, while they themselves are slavesG1401 of corruption; for by whom a manG3778 is subdued, by him is he alsoG2532 brought into slavery. 20For if after having escaped the pollutions of the worldG2889 through [the] knowledgeG1922 of the LordG2962 and Saviour JesusG2424 ChristG5547, againG3825 entangled, they are subdued by these, their lastG2078 state is worse than the firstG4413. 21For it wereG1510 better for them not to have knownG1921 the wayG3598 of righteousnessG1343, than having knownG1921 [it] to turn backG5290 from the holyG40 commandmentG1785 deliveredG3860 to them. 22But that [word] of the trueG227 proverb has happenedG4819 to them: [The] dogG2965 [has] turnedG1994 backG1994 to his ownG2398 vomit; and, [The] washedG3068 sow to [her] rolling in mud.
