1 Samuel 7

1And the menH376 of Kiriath-jearimH7157 cameH935, and fetched up the arkH727 of Jehovah, and broughtH935 it into the houseH1004 of AbinadabH41 in the hillH1389, and sanctifiedH6942 EleazarH499 his sonH1121 to keepH8104 the arkH727 of Jehovah. 2And it came to pass, from the dayH3117 that the arkH727 abode in Kiriath-jearimH7157, that the time wasH1961 long; for it wasH1961 twentyH6242 yearsH8141: and all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 lamented after Jehovah.

3And SamuelH8050 spake unto all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, If ye do returnH7725 unto Jehovah with all your heartH3824, then put awayH5493 the foreign godsH430 and the AshtarothH6252 from among you, and directH3559 your heartsH3824 unto Jehovah, and serveH5647 him onlyH905; and he will deliverH5337 you out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. 4Then the children of IsraelH3478 did put awayH5493 the Baalim and the AshtarothH6252, and servedH5647 Jehovah onlyH905.

5And SamuelH8050 saidH559, GatherH6908 all IsraelH3478 to MizpahH4709, and I will prayH6419 for you unto Jehovah. 6And they gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 to MizpahH4709, and drewH7579 waterH4325, and pouredH8210 it out before Jehovah, and fastedH6684 on that dayH3117, and saidH559 there, We have sinnedH2398 against Jehovah. And SamuelH8050 judgedH8199 the children of IsraelH3478 in MizpahH4709. 7And when the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 that the children of IsraelH3478 were gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 to MizpahH4709, the lords of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH5927 up against IsraelH3478. And when the children of IsraelH3478 heardH8085 it, they were afraidH3372 of the PhilistinesH6430. 8And the children of IsraelH3478 saidH559 to SamuelH8050, Cease not to cryH2199 unto Jehovah our GodH430 for us, that he will saveH3467 us out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. 9And SamuelH8050 tookH3947 a sucking lambH2924, and offeredH5927 it for a wholeH3632 burnt-offering unto Jehovah: and SamuelH8050 criedH2199 unto Jehovah for IsraelH3478; and Jehovah answeredH6030 him. 10And as SamuelH8050 wasH1961 offeringH5927 up the burnt-offering, the PhilistinesH6430 drewH5066 near to battleH4421 against IsraelH3478; but Jehovah thunderedH7481 with a greatH1419 thunderH6963 on that dayH3117 upon the PhilistinesH6430, and discomfited them; and they wereH1961 smitten down before IsraelH3478. 11And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 wentH3318 out of MizpahH4709, and pursuedH7291 the PhilistinesH6430, and smote them, until they cameH3318 under Beth-car.

12Then SamuelH8050 tookH3947 a stoneH68, and setH7760 it between MizpahH4709 and Shen, and calledH7121 the nameH8034 of it Eben-ezer, sayingH559, Hitherto hath Jehovah helpedH5826 us. 13So the PhilistinesH6430 wereH1961 subduedH3665, and they cameH935 no more within the borderH1366 of IsraelH3478: and the handH3027 of Jehovah wasH1961 against the PhilistinesH6430 all the daysH3117 of SamuelH8050. 14And the citiesH5892 which the PhilistinesH6430 had takenH3947 from IsraelH3478 were restoredH7725 to IsraelH3478, from EkronH6138 even unto GathH1661; and the borderH1366 thereof did IsraelH3478 deliverH5337 out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. And there wasH1961 peaceH7965 between IsraelH3478 and the AmoritesH567.

15And SamuelH8050 judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 all the daysH3117 of his life. 16And he wentH1980 from yearH8141 to yearH8141 in circuit to Beth-el, and GilgalH1537, and MizpahH4709; and he judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 in all those placesH4725. 17And his returnH8666 was to RamahH7414, for there was his houseH1004; and there he judgedH8199 IsraelH3478: and he builtH1129 there an altarH4196 unto Jehovah.
