1 Samuel 7
Revised Version 1895
1And the menH376 of Kiriath-jearimH7157 cameH935, and fetched upH5927 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068, and broughtH935 it intoH413 the houseH1004 of AbinadabH41 in the hillH1389, and sanctifiedH6942 EleazarH499 his sonH1121 to keepH8104 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068. 2And it cameH1961 to passH1961, from the dayH3117 that the arkH727 abodeH3427 in Kiriath-jearimH7157, that the time was longH3117; for it was twentyH6242 yearsH8141: and allH3605 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 lamentedH5091 afterH310 the LORDH3068. 3And SamuelH8050 spake unto allH3605 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, IfH518 ye doH5647 returnH7725 unto the LORDH3068 with allH3605 your heartH3824, then putH5493 awayH5493 the strangeH5236 godsH430 and the AshtarothH6252 from among youH859, and prepareH3559 your heartsH3824 unto the LORDH3068, and serveH5647 him onlyH905: and he will deliverH5337 youH859 outH413 of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. 4Then the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 did putH5493 awayH5493 the Baalim and the AshtarothH6252, and servedH5647 the LORDH3068 onlyH905. 5And SamuelH8050 saidH559, GatherH6908 allH3605 IsraelH3478 to MizpahH4709, and I will prayH6419 for youH3605 unto the LORDH3068. 6And they gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 to MizpahH4709, and drewH7579 waterH4325, and pouredH8210 it outH8210 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and fastedH6684 on that dayH3117, and saidH559 there, WeH3117 have sinnedH2398 againstH6440 the LORDH3068. And SamuelH8050 judgedH8199 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 in MizpahH4709. 7And when the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 that the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 were gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 to MizpahH4709, the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH5927 upH5927 againstH413 IsraelH3478. And when the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 heardH8085 it, they were afraidH3372 of the PhilistinesH6430. 8And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 to SamuelH8050, Cease notH408 to cryH2199 unto the LORDH3068 our GodH430 for usH413, that he will saveH3467 usH413 outH4480 of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. 9And SamuelH8050 tookH3947 a sucking lambH2924, and offeredH5927 it for a wholeH3632 burntH5930 offering unto the LORDH3068: and SamuelH8050 criedH2199 unto the LORDH3068 for IsraelH3478; and the LORDH3068 answeredH6030 him. 10And as SamuelH8050 was offering upH5927 the burntH5930 offering, the PhilistinesH6430 drewH5066 nearH5066 to battleH4421 againstH5921 IsraelH3478: but the LORDH3068 thunderedH7481 with a greatH1419 thunderH6963 on that dayH3117 uponH5921 the PhilistinesH6430, and discomfited them; and they were smitten downH5062 beforeH6440 IsraelH3478. 11And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 wentH3318 outH3318 of MizpahH4709, and pursuedH7291 the PhilistinesH6430, and smoteH5221 them, untilH5704 they cameH3318 underH8478 Beth-carH1033. 12Then SamuelH8050 tookH3947 a stoneH68, and setH7760 it betweenH996 MizpahH4709 and ShenH8129, and calledH7121 the nameH8034 of it Eben-ezer, sayingH559, Hitherto hath the LORDH3068 helpedH5826 usH7760. 13SoH1961 the PhilistinesH6430 were subduedH3665, and they cameH935 noH3808 moreH5750 withinH5750 the borderH1366 of IsraelH3478: and the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was againstH3027 the PhilistinesH6430 allH3605 the daysH3117 of SamuelH8050. 14And the citiesH5892 whichH834 the PhilistinesH6430 had takenH3947 from IsraelH3478 were restoredH7725 to IsraelH3478, from EkronH6138 evenH5704 unto GathH1661; and the borderH1366 thereof didH834 IsraelH3478 deliverH5337 outH3027 of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430. And there was peaceH7965 betweenH996 IsraelH3478 and the AmoritesH567. 15And SamuelH8050 judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 allH3605 the daysH3117 of his lifeH3117. 16And he wentH1980 from yearH8141 to yearH8141 in circuitH5437 to Beth-el, and GilgalH1537, and MizpahH4709; and he judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 in allH3605 thoseH428 placesH4725. 17And his returnH8666 was to RamahH7414, for there was his houseH1004; and there he judgedH8199 IsraelH3478: and he builtH1129 there an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068.
