1It happenedἐγένετοegenetoG1096that whileG1722Jesus was prayingπροσευχόμενον,proseuchomenonG4336in a certainτινὶtiniG5100placeτόπῳtopōG5117,whenὡςhōsG5613He had finishedἐπαύσατο,epausatoG3973,oneτιςtisG5100of His disciplesμαθητῶνmathētōnG3101saidG3004to Him, “Lordκύριε,kurieG2962,teachδίδαξονdidaxonG1321us to prayπροσεύχεσθαιproseuchesthaiG4336,justG2531asG2531JohnἸωάννηςIōannēsG2491alsoG2532taughtἐδίδαξενedidaxenG1321his disciplesμαθητὰςmathētasG3101.”

2And He saidλέγετε·legeteG3004to them, “WhenὅτανhotanG3752you prayπροσεύχησθε,proseuchēstheG4336,sayG3004: ‘FatherπάτερpaterG3962,hallowedἁγιασθήτωhagiasthētōG37be Your nameὄνομάonomaG3686.Your kingdomβασιλείαbasileiaG932comeἐλθέτωelthetōG2064.

3GiveδίδουdidouG1325useachκαθ᾽kath᾽G2596dayἡμέραν·hēmeranG2250ourdailyἐπιούσιονepiousionG1967breadἄρτονartonG740.

4And forgiveἄφεςaphesG863us our sinsἁμαρτίαςhamartiasG266,For we ourselvesαὐτοὶautoiG846alsoG2532forgiveἀφίομενaphiomenG863everyoneπαντὶpantiG3956whois indebtedὀφείλοντιopheilontiG3784to us.And do not leadεἰσενέγκῃςeisenegkēsG1533us into temptationπειρασμόνpeirasmonG3986.’”

5And He saidG3004to them, “SupposeG5101oneG5101of you hasἕξειhexeiG2192a friendφίλον,philonG5384,and goesπορεύσεταιporeusetaiG4198to him at midnightμεσονυκτίουmesonuktiouG3317and saysG3004to him, ‘Friendφίλε,phileG5384,lendχρῆσόνchrēsonG5531me threeτρεῖςtreisG5140loavesἄρτους,artousG740,

6becauseἐπειδὴepeidēG1894a friendφίλοςphilosG5384of mineG1473has comeπαρεγένετοparegenetoG3854to me from a journeyὁδοῦhodouG3598and I haveἔχωechōG2192nothingοὐκoukG3756to serveπαραθήσωparathēsōG3908him’;

7and fromG2081insideG2081he answersἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saysG3004, ‘Do not botherκόπους πάρεχε.kopous parecheG2873 G3930me; the doorθύραthuraG2374has alreadyἤδηēdēG2235been shutκέκλεισται,kekleistaiG2808and my childrenπαιδίαpaidiaG3813and I are in bedκοίτηνkoitēnG2845;I cannotοὐ δύναμαιou dunamaiG1410 G3756getG450upG450and giveδοῦναίdounaiG1325you anything.’

8I tellλέγωlegōG3004you, evenκαὶkaiG2532ifεἰeiG1487he will not getG450upG450and giveδώσειdōseiG1325him anything justbecauseδιὰdiaG1223he is his friendφίλονphilonG5384,yetγεgeG1065becauseδιάdiaG1223of hisshamelessnessἀναίδειανanaideianG335he will getG1453upG1453and giveδώσειdōseiG1325him as muchὅσωνhosōnG3745as he needsχρῄζει.chrēzeiG5535.

9“SoG2532I sayλέγω·legōG3004to you,askαἰτεῖτε,aiteiteG154,and it will be givenδοθήσεταιdothēsetaiG1325to you;seekζητεῖτε,zēteiteG2212,and you will findεὑρήσετε·heurēseteG2147;knockκρούετε,kroueteG2925,and it will be openedἀνοιγήσεταιanoigēsetaiG455to you.
