A Rebellious People

1“I permitted Myself to be soughtנִדְרַ֙שְׁתִּי֙nid.Rash.tiH1875bythose who did not askשָׁאָ֔לוּsha.'A.luH7592for Me;I permitted Myself to be foundנִמְצֵ֖אתִיnim.Tze.tiH4672by those who did not seekבִקְשֻׁ֑נִיvik.Shu.niH1245Me.I saidאָמַ֙רְתִּי֙'a.Mar.tiH559, ‘HereH2009am I, hereH2009am I,’To a nationגּ֖וֹיGoyH1471whichdid not callקֹרָ֥אko.Ra'H7121on My nameבִשְׁמִֽי׃vish.MiH8034.

2I have spreadפֵּרַ֧שְׂתִּיpe.Ras.tiH6566outH6566My handsיָדַ֛יya.DaiH3027allכָּל־kol-H3605dayהַיּ֖וֹםhai.YomH3117long to arebelliousסוֹרֵ֑רso.RerH5637peopleעַ֣ם'amH5971,Who walkהַהֹלְכִים֙ha.ho.le.KhimH1980inthe wayהַדֶּ֣רֶךְha.De.rekhH1870which is not goodט֔וֹבTovH2896,followingאַחַ֖ר'a.CharH310their ownthoughtsמַחְשְׁבֹתֵיהֶֽם׃mach.she.vo.tei.HemH4284,

3A peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971who continuallyתָּמִ֑ידta.MidH8548provokeהַמַּכְעִיסִ֥יםha.makh.'i.SimH3707Me to My faceפָּנַ֖יpa.NaiH6440,OfferingH2076sacrificesזֹֽבְחִים֙zoe.ChimH2076ingardensבַּגַּנּ֔וֹתba.ga.NotH1593andburningH6999incenseH6999on bricksהַלְּבֵנִֽים׃ha.le.ve.NimH3843;

4Who sitהַיֹּֽשְׁבִים֙hai.yo.she.VimH3427among gravesבַּקְּבָרִ֔יםba.ke.va.RimH6913and spendיָלִ֑ינוּya.Li.nuH3885theH3885nightH3885in secretוּבַנְּצוּרִ֖יםu.va.ne.tzu.RimH5341placesH5341; Whoeatהָאֹֽכְלִים֙ha.'o.khe.LimH398pig’sהַחֲזִ֔ירha.cha.ZirH2386fleshבְּשַׂ֣רbe.SarH1320,And the brothוּמְרַ֥קu.fe.rakH4839of uncleanפִּגֻּלִ֖יםpi.gu.LimH6292meatH6292is intheir potsכְּלֵיהֶֽם׃ke.lei.HemH3627.

5Who sayהָאֹֽמְרִים֙ha.'o.me.RimH559, ‘Keepקְרַ֣בke.RavH7126to yourself, do not comeH5066nearH5066me,For I amH6942holierH6942than you!’Theseאֵ֚לֶּה'E.lehH428are smokeעָשָׁ֣ן'a.ShanH6227in Mynostrilsבְּאַפִּ֔יbe.'a.PiH639,A fireאֵ֥שׁ'eshH784that burnsיֹקֶ֖דֶתyo.Ke.detH3344allכָּל־kol-H3605the dayהַיּֽוֹם׃hai.YomH3117.

6Beholdהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009,it is writtenכְתוּבָ֖הkhe.tu.VahH3789beforeלְפָנָ֑יle.fa.NaiH6440Me: I willnot keepH2814silentאֶחֱשֶׂה֙'e.che.SehH2814, butI will repayשִׁלַּ֔מְתִּיshi.Lam.tiH7999;I will even repayוְשִׁלַּמְתִּ֖יve.shi.lam.TiH7999into their lapsחֵיקָֽם׃chei.KamH2436,

7Both your ownwrongdoingsעֲ֠וֹנֹתֵיכֶם'A.vo.no.tei.khemH5771and the wrongdoingsוַעֲוֹנֹ֨תva.'a.vo.NotH5771of your fathersאֲבוֹתֵיכֶ֤ם'a.vo.tei.KhemH1togetherH3164,”saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068. “Becauseאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834they haveburnedH6999incenseH6999on the mountainsהֶ֣הָרִ֔יםhe.ha.RimH2022Andscornedחֵרְפ֑וּנִיche.re.Fu.niH2778Me on the hillsהַגְּבָע֖וֹתha.ge.va.'otH1389, Therefore I willmeasureוּמַדֹּתִ֧יu.ma.do.TiH4058their formerרִֽאשֹׁנָ֖הri.sho.NahH7223workפְעֻלָּתָ֛םfe.'u.la.TamH6468into their lapsחֵיקָֽם׃ סchei.KamH2436.”

8ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559: “JustH3512asH3512the newהַתִּירוֹשׁ֙ha.ti.ro.VoshH8492wineH8492is foundיִמָּצֵ֤אyi.ma.Tze'H4672in the clusterבָּֽאֶשְׁכּ֔וֹלba.'esh.KolH811,And one saysוְאָמַר֙ve.'a.MarH559, ‘Do not destroyתַּשְׁחִיתֵ֔הוּtash.chi.Te.huH7843it, for there isbenefitבְרָכָ֖הve.ra.KhahH1293in it,’Soכֵּ֤ןkenH3651I will actאֶֽעֱשֶׂה֙'e.'e.SehH6213in behalfלְמַ֣עַןle.Ma.'anH4616of My servantsעֲבָדַ֔י'a.va.DaiH5650In ordernot to destroyהַֽשְׁחִ֥יתhash.ChitH7843allהַכֹּֽל׃ha.KolH3605of them.

9I will bringוְהוֹצֵאתִ֤יve.ho.tze.TiH3318forthH3318offspringזֶ֔רַעZe.ra'H2233from Jacobמִֽיַּעֲקֹב֙mi.ya.'a.KoH3290, And anheirיוֹרֵ֣שׁyo.ReshH3423of My mountainsהָרָ֑יha.RaiH2022from Judahוּמִיהוּדָ֖הu.mi.hu.DahH3063;My chosenH972onesבְחִירַ֔יve.chi.RaiH972shall inheritוִירֵשׁ֣וּהָvi.re.Shu.haH3423it, AndMy servantsוַעֲבָדַ֖יva.'a.va.DaiH5650will liveיִשְׁכְּנוּ־yish.ke.nu-H7931thereשָֽׁמָּה׃Sha.mahH8033.

10Sharonהַשָּׁרוֹן֙ha.sha.rOnH8289will be a pastureלִנְוֵה־lin.veh-H5116landH5116for flocksצֹ֔אןTzonH6629, And theValleyוְעֵ֥מֶקve.'E.mekH6010of Achorעָכ֖וֹרa.KhorH5911a restingלְרֵ֣בֶץle.Re.vetzH7258placeH7258for herdsבָּקָ֑רba.KarH1241,For My peopleלְעַמִּ֖יle.'a.MiH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834seekדְּרָשֽׁוּנִי׃de.ra.Shu.niH1875Me.

11But as for you whoabandonעֹזְבֵ֣י'o.ze.VeiH5800the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,Who forgetהַשְּׁכֵחִ֖יםha.she.khe.ChimH7913Myholyקָדְשִׁ֑יkod.shiH6944mountainהַ֣רharH2022,Who setהַֽעֹרְכִ֤יםha.'o.re.KhimH6186a tableשֻׁלְחָ֔ןshul.ChanH7979forFortuneH1409,And fillוְהַֽמְמַלְאִ֖יםve.ha.mal.'ImH4390a jugH4469ofH4469mixedH4469wineמִמְסָֽךְ׃mi.SakhH4469forDestinyלַמְנִ֥יlam.NiH4507,

12I will destineוּמָנִ֨יתִיu.ma.Ni.tiH4487you for theswordלַחֶ֗רֶבla.Che.revH2719,And allוְכֻלְּכֶם֙ve.khu.le.KhemH3605of you will bowתִּכְרָ֔עוּtikh.Ra.'uH3766downH3766to theslaughterלַטֶּ֣בַחla.Te.vachH2874.Becauseיַ֤עַןYa.'anH3282I calledקָרָ֙אתִי֙ka.Ra.tiH7121, but youdid not answerעֲנִיתֶ֔ם'a.ni.TemH6030;I spokeדִּבַּ֖רְתִּיdi.Bar.tiH1696,but you did not listenשְׁמַעְתֶּ֑םshe.ma'.TemH8085.Instead, you didוַתַּעֲשׂ֤וּva.ta.'a.SuH6213evilהָרַע֙ha.Ra'H7451in My sightבְּעֵינַ֔יbe.'ei.NaiH5869And choseבְּחַרְתֶּֽם׃ פbe.char.TemH977that in whichוּבַאֲשֶׁ֥רu.va.'a.SherH834I did not delightחָפַ֖צְתִּיcha.Fatz.tiH2654.”

13Thereforeלָכֵ֞ןla.KhenH3651,thisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068saysאָמַ֣ר׀'a.MarH559: “Beholdהִנֵּ֨הhi.NehH2009,My servantsעֲבָדַ֤י׀'a.va.DaiH5650willeatיֹאכֵ֙לוּ֙yo.Khe.luH398, but you will behungryתִּרְעָ֔בוּtir.'A.vuH7456.Beholdהִנֵּ֧הhi.NehH2009,My servantsעֲבָדַ֛י'a.va.DaiH5650willdrinkיִשְׁתּ֖וּyish.TuH8354,but you will beH6770thirstyתִּצְמָ֑אוּtitz.Ma.'uH6770.Beholdהִנֵּ֧הhi.NehH2009,My servantsעֲבָדַ֛י'a.va.DaiH5650willrejoiceיִשְׂמָ֖חוּyis.Ma.chuH8055, but you will beputH954toH954shameH954.

14Beholdהִנֵּ֧הhi.NehH2009,My servantsעֲבָדַ֛י'a.va.DaiH5650willshoutיָרֹ֖נּוּya.Ro.nuH7442joyfullyH7442with a gladמִטּ֣וּבmi.TuvH2898heartלֵ֑בLevH3820, But you willcryתִּצְעֲקוּ֙titz.'a.KuH6817outH6817from a painfulמִכְּאֵ֣בmi.ke.'EvH3511heartלֵ֔בLevH3820,And you will wailתְּיֵלִֽילוּ׃te.ye.Li.luH3213from a brokenH7665spiritר֖וּחַRu.achH7307.

15You will leaveוְהִנַּחְתֶּ֨םve.hi.nach.TemH5117your nameשִׁמְכֶ֤םshim.KhemH8034as acurseלִשְׁבוּעָה֙lish.vu.'AhH7621to My chosenH972onesלִבְחִירַ֔יliv.chi.RaiH972,And the Lordאֲדֹנָ֣י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068will putוֶהֱמִיתְךָ֖ve.he.mi.te.KhaH4191you toH4191deathH4191. ButMy servantsוְלַעֲבָדָ֥יוve.la.'a.va.DavH5650will be calledיִקְרָ֖אyik.Ra'H7121byanotherאַחֵֽר׃'a.CherH312nameשֵׁ֥םshemH8034.

16Becauseאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the one whois blessedהַמִּתְבָּרֵ֜ךְha.mit.ba.RekhH1288on the earthבָּאָ֗רֶץba.'A.retzH776Willbe blessedיִתְבָּרֵךְ֙yit.ba.reKhH1288by theGodבֵּאלֹהֵ֣יbe.lo.HeiH430of truthאָמֵ֔ן'a.MenH543;And the one who swearsוְהַנִּשְׁבָּ֣עve.ha.nish.Ba'H7650an oathon the earthבָּאָ֔רֶץba.'A.retzH776Willswearיִשָּׁבַ֖עyi.sha.Va'H7650by the Godבֵּאלֹהֵ֣יbe.lo.HeiH430of truthאָמֵ֑ן'a.MenH543;Becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588the formerהָרִ֣אשֹׁנ֔וֹתha.Ri.sho.NotH7223troublesהַצָּרוֹת֙ha.tza.rOtH6869are forgottenנִשְׁכְּח֗וּnish.ke.ChuH7911,And becauseוְכִ֥יve.KhiH3588they are hiddenנִסְתְּר֖וּnis.te.RuH5641from My sightמֵעֵינָֽי׃me.'ei.NaiH5869!

17“For beholdH2009,I createבוֹרֵ֛אvo.Re'H1254newחֲדָשִׁ֖יםcha.da.ShimH2319heavensשָׁמַ֥יִםsha.Ma.yimH8064and a newחֲדָשָׁ֑הcha.da.ShahH2319earthוָאָ֣רֶץva.'A.retzH776; And theformerהָרִ֣אשֹׁנ֔וֹתha.Ri.sho.NotH7223thingsH7223will not be rememberedתִזָּכַ֙רְנָה֙ti.za.Khar.nahH2142or comeתַעֲלֶ֖ינָהta.'a.Lei.nahH5927tomindלֵֽב׃LevH3820.

18But begladשִׂ֤ישׂוּSi.suH7797and rejoiceוְגִ֙ילוּ֙ve.Gi.luH1523foreverעַ֔ד'AdH5703in whatאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834I createבוֹרֵ֑אvo.Re'H1254;For beholdH2009,I createבוֹרֵ֧אvo.Re'H1254Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֛םye.ru.sha.LimH3389forrejoicingגִּילָ֖הgi.LahH1525And her peopleוְעַמָּ֥הּve.'a.MahH5971forgladnessמָשֽׂוֹשׂ׃ma.SosH4885.

19I will alsorejoiceוְגַלְתִּ֥יve.gal.TiH1523in Jerusalemבִירוּשָׁלִַ֖םvi.ru.sha.LimH3389and be gladוְשַׂשְׂתִּ֣יve.sas.TiH7797in My peopleבְעַמִּ֑יve.'a.MiH5971;And there will noוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808longerע֔וֹדodH5750be heardיִשָּׁמַ֥עyi.sha.Ma'H8085in herThe voiceק֥וֹלKolH6963ofweepingבְּכִ֖יbe.KhiH1065and the soundוְק֥וֹלve.KolH6963of cryingזְעָקָֽה׃ze.'a.KahH2201.

20NoH3808longerע֗וֹדodH5750will there bein it an infantע֤וּל'ulH5764who lives only a fewdaysיָמִים֙ya.MimH3117,Or an oldוְזָקֵ֔ןve.za.KenH2205personH2205whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834does notliveH4390outH4390his daysיָמָ֑יוya.MavH3117;For the youthהַנַּ֗עַרha.Na.'arH5288will dieיָמ֔וּתya.MutH4191at the ageבֶּן־ben-H1121of a hundredמֵאָ֤הme.'AhH3967, And theone who doesH2398notH2398reachH2398the ageבֶּן־ben-H1121of a hundredמֵאָ֥הme.'AhH3967Will beH7043thoughtaccursedH7043.

21They willbuildוּבָנ֥וּu.va.NuH1129housesבָתִּ֖יםva.TimH1004and inhabitוְיָשָׁ֑בוּve.ya.Sha.vuH3427them; They will alsoplantוְנָטְע֣וּve.na.te.'UH5193vineyardsכְרָמִ֔יםkhe.ra.MimH3754and eatוְאָכְל֖וּve.'a.khe.LuH398their fruitפִּרְיָֽם׃pir.YamH6529.

22They will not buildיִבְנוּ֙yiv.NuH1129andanotherוְאַחֵ֣רve.'a.CherH312inhabitיֵשֵׁ֔בye.ShevH3427,They will not plantיִטְּע֖וּyi.te.'UH5193and anotherוְאַחֵ֣רve.'a.CherH312eatיֹאכֵ֑לyo.KhelH398; For as thelifetimeכִימֵ֤יkhi.MeiH3117of a treeהָעֵץ֙ha.'EtzH6086, so will bethe daysיְמֵ֣יye.MeiH3117of My peopleעַמִּ֔י'a.MiH5971,And My chosenH972onesבְחִירָֽי׃ve.chi.RaiH972willfullyH1086enjoyH1086the workוּמַעֲשֵׂ֥הu.ma.'a.SehH4639of their handsיְדֵיהֶ֖םye.dei.HemH3027.

23They willnot laborיִֽיגְעוּ֙yi.ge.'UH3021in vainלָרִ֔יקla.RikH7385,Or giveH3205birthH3205to childrenfor disasterלַבֶּהָלָ֑הla.be.ha.LahH928; For they are thedescendantsזֶ֜רַעZe.ra'H2233of those blessedבְּרוּכֵ֤יbe.ru.KheiH1288by the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,And their descendantsוְצֶאֱצָאֵיהֶ֖םve.tze.'e.tza.'ei.HemH6631with them.

24It will also comeH1961toH1961passH1961that beforeטֶֽרֶם־te.rem-H2962they callיִקְרָ֖אוּyik.Ra.'uH7121, I willanswerאֶעֱנֶ֑ה'e.'e.NehH6030;while they are stillע֛וֹדodH5750speakingמְדַבְּרִ֖יםme.da.be.RimH1696,I will listenאֶשְׁמָֽע׃'esh.Ma'H8085.

25Thewolfזְאֵ֨בze.'EvH2061and the lambוְטָלֶ֜הve.ta.LehH2924will grazeיִרְע֣וּyir.'UH7462togetherכְאֶחָ֗דkhe.'e.ChadH259, and thelionH743will eatיֹֽאכַל־yo.khal-H398strawתֶּ֔בֶןTe.venH8401like the oxכַּבָּקָ֣רka.ba.KarH1241; anddustעָפָ֣ר'a.FarH6083will be the serpent’sוְנָחָ֖שׁve.na.ChashH5175foodלַחְמ֑וֹlach.MoH3899. They willdoH7489noH3808evilH7489or harmיַשְׁחִ֛יתוּyash.Chi.tuH7843on allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605Myholyקָדְשִׁ֖יkod.shiH6944mountainהַ֥רharH2022,”saysאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068.
