2So as todepriveלְהַטּ֤וֹתle.ha.TotH5186the needyדַּלִּ֔יםda.LimH1800of justiceמִדִּין֙mi.DinH1779And robוְלִגְזֹ֕לve.lig.ZolH1497the poorעֲנִיֵּ֣י'a.ni.YeiH6041among My peopleעַמִּ֑י'a.MiH5971of theirrightsמִשְׁפַּ֖טmish.PatH4941, Sothat widowsאַלְמָנוֹת֙'al.ma.nOtH490may be their spoilשְׁלָלָ֔םshe.la.LamH7998And that they may plunderיָבֹֽזּוּ׃ya.Vo.zuH962theorphansיְתוֹמִ֖יםye.to.MimH3490.

3Nowwhatוּמַֽה־u.mah-H4100will you doתַּעֲשׂוּ֙ta.'a.SuH6213in thedayלְי֣וֹםle.YomH3117of punishmentפְּקֻדָּ֔הpe.ku.DahH6486,And in the devastationH7724which will comeתָּב֑וֹאta.Vo'H935from afarמִמֶּרְחָ֣קmi.mer.ChakH4801?To whomמִי֙miH4310will you fleeתָּנ֣וּסוּta.Nu.suH5127for helpלְעֶזְרָ֔הle.'ez.RahH5833?And whereוְאָ֥נָהve.'A.nahH575will you leaveתַעַזְב֖וּta.'az.VuH5800your wealthכְּבוֹדְכֶֽם׃ke.Vod.KhemH3519?

4Nothingבִּלְתִּ֤יbil.TiH1115remainsbut to crouchכָרַע֙kha.Ra'H3766amongתַּ֣חַתTa.chatH8478thecaptivesאַסִּ֔יר'a.SirH616Or fallיִפֹּ֑לוּyi.Po.luH5307amongוְתַ֥חַתve.Ta.chatH8478thosekilledהֲרוּגִ֖יםha.ru.GimH2026. In spite ofallבְּכָל־be.kholH3605thisH2088,His angerאַפּ֔וֹ'a.PoH639does not turnשָׁ֣בshavH7725awayH7725And His handיָד֥וֹya.DoH3027is stillוְע֖וֹדve.'odH5750stretchedנְטוּיָֽה׃ סne.tu.YahH5186outH5186.

5Woeה֥וֹיHoH1945toAssyriaאַשּׁ֖וּר'a.ShurH804, therodשֵׁ֣בֶטShe.vetH7626of My angerאַפִּ֑י'a.PiH639And the staffוּמַטֶּה־u.ma.teh-H4294in whose handsבְיָדָ֖םve.ya.DamH3027isMy indignationזַעְמִֽי׃za'.MiH2195,

6I sendאֲשַׁלְּחֶ֔נּוּ'a.shal.le.Che.nuH7971it against agodlessחָנֵף֙cha.NefH2611nationבְּג֤וֹיbe.GoyH1471And commissionאֲצַוֶּ֑נּוּ'a.tzav.Ve.nuH6680it againstוְעַל־ve.'al-H5921thepeopleעַ֥ם'amH5971of My furyעֶבְרָתִ֖י'ev.ra.TiH5678To captureלִשְׁלֹ֤לlish.LolH7997spoilsשָׁלָל֙sha.LalH7998andto seizeוְלָבֹ֣זve.la.VozH962plunderבַּ֔זBazH957, And totrampleH4823them downH4823likemudכְּחֹ֥מֶרke.Cho.merH2563in the streetsחוּצֽוֹת׃chu.TzotH2351.

7Yet itdoes not soכֵ֣ןkhenH3651intendיְדַמֶּ֔הye.da.MehH1819,NorH3808doesit planיַחְשֹׁ֑בyach.ShoH2803soכֵ֣ןkhenH3651in its heartוּלְבָב֖וֹu.le.va.VoH3824,But ratherכִּ֚יkiH3588it isits purposeבִּלְבָב֔וֹbil.va.VoH3824to destroyלְהַשְׁמִ֣ידle.hash.MidH8045And to eliminateוּלְהַכְרִ֥יתu.le.hakh.RitH3772manyמְעָֽט׃me.'AtH3808 H4592nationsגּוֹיִ֖םgo.YimH1471.

8For it saysיֹאמַ֑רyo.MarH559, “Are not my officersשָׂרַ֛יsa.RaiH8269allH3164kingsמְלָכִֽים׃me.la.KhimH4428?

9Is notCalnoכַּלְנ֑וֹkal.NoH3641likeCarchemishכְּכַרְכְּמִ֖ישׁke.khar.ke.MishH3751,Orאִם־'im-H518Hamathחֲמָ֔תcha.MatH2574like Arpadכְאַרְפַּד֙khe.'ar.PadH774,Orאִם־'im-H518Samariaשֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃sho.me.RonH8111likeDamascusכְדַמֶּ֖שֶׂקkhe.da.Me.sekH1834?

10As my handיָדִ֔יya.DiH3027has reachedמָצְאָ֣הma.tze.'AhH4672to thekingdomsלְמַמְלְכֹ֖תle.mam.le.KhotH4467of the idolsהָאֱלִ֑ילha.'e.LilH457,Whose carvedH6456imagesH6456were greaterthanH4480those of Jerusalemמִירֽוּשָׁלִַ֖םmi.ru.sha.LimH3389and Samariaוּמִשֹּׁמְרֽוֹן׃u.mi.sho.me.RonH8111,

11Shall I not doעָשִׂ֛יתִי'a.Si.tiH6213the sameכֵּ֛ןkenH3651to Jerusalemלִירוּשָׁלִַ֖םli.ru.sha.LimH3389and her imagesוְלַעֲצַבֶּֽיהָ׃ סve.la.'a.tza.Bei.haH6091JustH3512asH3512I have doneאֶעֱשֶׂ֥ה'e.'e.SehH6213to Samariaלְשֹׁמְר֖וֹןle.sho.me.RonH8111andher idolsוְלֶאֱלִילֶ֑יהָve.le.'e.li.Lei.haH457?”

12So it will be that whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588the Lordאֲדֹנָי֙'a.do.NaiH136has completedיְבַצַּ֤עye.va.Tza'H1214allכָּל־kol-H3605Hisworkמַֽעֲשֵׂ֔הוּma.'a.Se.huH4639on Mountבְּהַ֥רbe.HarH2022Zionצִיּ֖וֹןtzi.YonH6726and on Jerusalemוּבִירוּשָׁלִָ֑םu.vi.ru.sha.LimH3389, He will say, “I willpunishאֶפְקֹ֗ד'ef.KodH6485the fruitפְּרִי־pe.ri-H6529of the arrogantגֹ֙דֶל֙go.delH1433heartלְבַ֣בle.VavH3824of the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Assyriaאַשּׁ֔וּר'a.ShurH804andthe arrogantר֥וּםrumH7312prideתִּפְאֶ֖רֶתtif.'E.retH8597of his eyesעֵינָֽיו׃'ei.NavH5869.”

13Forhe has saidאָמַ֗ר'a.MarH559, “By the powerבְּכֹ֤חַbe.Kho.achH3581of my handיָדִי֙ya.DiH3027and by my wisdomוּבְחָכְמָתִ֖יu.ve.cha.khe.ma.TiH2451I didעָשִׂ֔יתִי'a.Si.tiH6213this,BecauseH3588I haveH995understandingנְבֻנ֑וֹתִיne.vu.No.tiH995; And Iremovedוְאָסִ֣יר׀ve.'a.SirH5493the boundariesגְּבוּלֹ֣תge.vu.LotH1367of the peoplesעַמִּ֗ים'a.MimH5971And plunderedשׁוֹשֵׂ֔תִיsho.Se.tiH8154their treasuresH6264,And like a powerfulH3524manכַּאבִּ֖ירka.BirH47I broughtוְאוֹרִ֥ידve.'o.RidH3381downH3381theirinhabitantsיוֹשְׁבִֽים׃yo.she.VimH3427,

14And my handיָדִי֙ya.DiH3027reachedוַתִּמְצָ֨אva.tim.Tza'H4672to the richesלְחֵ֣ילle.CheilH2428of the peoplesהָֽעַמִּ֔יםha.'a.MimH5971like anestכַקֵּ֤ן׀kha.KenH7064,And as one gathersוְכֶאֱסֹף֙ve.khe.'e.SofH622abandonedעֲזֻב֔וֹתa.zu.VotH5800eggsבֵּיצִ֣יםbei.TzimH1000,I gatheredאָסָ֑פְתִּי'a.Sa.fe.tiH622allכָּל־kol-H3605the earthהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776;And there was not one that flappedנֹדֵ֣דno.DedH5074its wingכָּנָ֔ףka.NafH3671,openedוּפֹצֶ֥הu.fo.TzehH6475itsbeakפֶ֖הfehH6310,or chirpedוּמְצַפְצֵֽף׃u.me.tzaf.TzefH6850.”

15Is theaxeהַגַּרְזֶ֔ןha.gar.ZenH1631toboastהֲיִתְפָּאֵר֙ha.yit.pa.'ErH6286itself overעַ֖ל'alH5921the one who chopsהַחֹצֵ֣בha.cho.TzevH2672with it?Is the sawהַמַּשּׂוֹר֙ha.ma.sOrH4883to exaltיִתְגַּדֵּ֤לyit.ga.DelH1431itself overעַל־'al-H5921the one who wieldsמְנִיפ֔וֹme.ni.FoH5130it? That would be like aclubשֵׁ֙בֶט֙she.vetH7626wieldingכְּהָנִ֥יףke.ha.NifH5130those who liftמְרִימָ֔יוme.ri.MavH7311it, Or likea rodמַטֶּ֖הma.TehH4294liftingכְּהָרִ֥יםke.ha.RimH7311the one whois not woodעֵֽץ׃'EtzH6086.

16Thereforeלָ֠כֵןLa.khenH3651the LordH136, theGodיְהוָ֧הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָא֛וֹתtze.va.'otH6635,will sendיְשַׁלַּ֨חye.sha.LachH7971awastingH7332diseaseH7332among hisstoutH4924warriorsH4924;And underוְתַ֧חַתve.Ta.chatH8478hisgloryכְּבֹד֛וֹke.vo.DoH3519a fireיְקֹ֖דye.KodH3350will be kindledיֵקַ֥דye.KadH3344like a burningכִּיק֥וֹדki.KodH3350flameאֵֽשׁ׃'EshH784.

17And theLightאֽוֹר־'or-H216of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478will becomeוְהָיָ֤הve.ha.YahH1961a fireלְאֵ֔שׁle.'EshH784and Israel’sHolyוּקְדוֹשׁ֖וֹu.ke.do.ShoH6918OneH6918a flameלְלֶהָבָ֑הle.le.ha.VahH3852, And it willburnוּבָעֲרָ֗הu.va.'a.RahH1197and devourוְאָֽכְלָ֛הve.'a.khe.LahH398his thornsשִׁית֥וֹshi.ToH7898and his briarsוּשְׁמִיר֖וֹu.she.mi.RoH8068in a singleאֶחָֽד׃'e.ChadH259dayבְּי֥וֹםbe.YomH3117.

18And He willdestroyיְכַלֶּ֑הye.kha.LehH3615the gloryוּכְב֤וֹדu.khe.VodH3519of his forestיַעְרוֹ֙ya'.RoH3293and of his fruitfulH3759gardenH3759,bothH4480soulמִנֶּ֥פֶשׁmi.Ne.feshH5315and bodyבָּשָׂ֖רba.SarH1320,And it will be as when a sickH5263personH5263wastesH4549awayכִּמְסֹ֥סkim.SosH4549.

19And therestוּשְׁאָ֥רu.she.'ArH7605of the treesעֵ֛ץ'etzH6086of his forestיַעְר֖וֹya'.RoH3293will be so small in numberמִסְפָּ֣רmis.ParH4557That a childוְנַ֖עַרve.Na.'arH5288could writeH3789them downH3789.

20Now on that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117theremnantשְׁאָ֤רshe.'ArH7605of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478,and those of the houseבֵּֽית־beit-H1004of Jacobיַעֲקֹ֔בya.'a.KoH3290whoH6413have escapedH6413,will noלֹֽא־lo'-H3808longerיוֹסִ֨יף ע֜וֹדyo.Sif odH3254 H5750relyלְהִשָּׁעֵ֖ןle.hi.sha.'EnH8172on the one who struckמַכֵּ֑הוּma.Ke.huH5221them, but will trulyבֶּאֱמֶֽת׃be.'e.MetH571relyוְנִשְׁעַ֗ןve.nish.'AnH8172on the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068,the Holyקְד֥וֹשׁke.Do.oshH6918OneH6918of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478.

21Aremnantשְׁאָ֥רshe.'ArH7605will returnיָשׁ֖וּבya.ShuvH7725,the remnantשְׁאָ֣רshe.'ArH7605of Jacobיַעֲקֹ֑בya.'a.KoH3290, to themightyגִּבּֽוֹר׃gi.BorH1368Godאֵ֖ל'elH410.

22Forthoughאִם־'im-H518your peopleעַמְּךָ֤'a.me.KhaH5971,Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478,may be like the sandכְּח֣וֹלke.CholH2344of the seaהַיָּ֔םhai.YamH3220, Onlya remnantשְׁאָ֖רshe.'ArH7605within them will returnיָשׁ֣וּבya.ShuvH7725; Adestructionכִּלָּי֥וֹןki.la.YonH3631is determinedחָר֖וּץcha.RutzH2782,overflowingשׁוֹטֵ֥ףsho.TefH7857with righteousnessצְדָקָֽה׃tze.da.KahH6666.

23For a completeכָלָ֖הkha.LahH3617destructionH3617,one that is determinedוְנֶחֱרָצָ֑הve.ne.che.ra.TzahH2782,the Lordאֲדֹנָ֤י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068of armiesצְבָא֔וֹתtze.va.'otH6635will executeעֹשֶׂ֖ה'o.SehH6213in the midstבְּקֶ֥רֶבbe.Ke.revH7130of the wholeכָּל־kol-H3605landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ סha.'A.retzH776.

24Thereforeלָכֵ֗ןla.KhenH3651thisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordאֲדֹנָ֤י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068of armiesצְבָא֔וֹתtze.va.'otH6635saysאָמַ֞ר'a.MarH559: “My peopleעַמִּ֛י'a.MiH5971,you who dwellיֹשֵׁ֥בyo.ShevH3427inZionצִיּ֖וֹןtzi.YonH6726,do not fearתִּירָ֥אti.Ra'H3372the Assyrianמֵֽאַשּׁ֑וּרme.'a.ShurH804whostrikesיַכֶּ֔כָּהya.Ke.kahH5221you with the rodבַּשֵּׁ֣בֶטba.She.vetH7626,and liftsיִשָּֽׂא־yi.sa'-H5375upH5375his staffוּמַטֵּ֥הוּu.ma.Te.huH4294againstעָלֶ֖יךָ'a.Lei.khaH5921you the wayבְּדֶ֥רֶךְbe.De.rekhH1870Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714did.

25For in a veryמִזְעָ֑רmiz.'ArH4213littleמְעַ֣טme.'AtH4592whileע֖וֹדodH5750My indignationזַ֔עַםZa.'amH2195against youwill be endedוְכָ֣לָהve.Kha.lahH3615and My angerוְאַפִּ֖יve.'a.PiH639will be directedtoward their destructionתַּבְלִיתָֽם׃tav.li.TamH8399.”

26The Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָאוֹת֙tze.va.'OtH6635willwieldוְעוֹרֵ֨רve.'o.RerH5782a whipשׁ֔וֹטShotH7752againstעָלָ֜יו'a.LavH5921him like the defeatכְּמַכַּ֥תke.ma.KatH4347ofMidianמִדְיָ֖ןmid.YanH4080at the rockבְּצ֣וּרbe.TzurH6697of Orebעוֹרֵ֑בo.RevH6159; and Hisstaffוּמַטֵּ֙הוּ֙u.ma.Te.huH4294will be overעַל־'al-H5921the seaהַיָּ֔םhai.YamH3220,and He will liftH5375it upH5375the wayבְּדֶ֥רֶךְbe.De.rekhH1870He did inEgyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.

27So it will be on that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117, that hisburdenסֻבֳּלוֹ֙su.bo.LoH5448will be removedיָס֤וּרya.SurH5493from your shouldersשִׁכְמֶ֔ךָshikh.Me.khaH7926,and his yokeוְעֻלּ֖וֹve.'u.LoH5923from your neckצַוָּארֶ֑ךָtza.va.Re.khaH6677;and the yokeעֹ֖ל'olH5923will be brokenוְחֻבַּ֥לve.chu.BalH2254becauseמִפְּנֵי־mi.pe.nei-H4480 H6440of fatnessשָֽׁמֶן׃Sha.menH8081.

28He has comeבָּ֥אba'H935againstעַל־'al-H5921Aiathעַיַּ֖ת'ai.YatH5857,He has passedעָבַ֣ר'a.VarH5674throughMigronבְּמִגְר֑וֹןbe.mig.RonH4051; AtMichmashלְמִכְמָ֖שׂle.mikh.MasH4363he depositedיַפְקִ֥ידyaf.KidH6485hisbaggageכֵּלָֽיו׃ke.LavH3627.

29They have goneH5674throughH5674the passמַעְבָּרָ֔הma'.ba.RahH4569, saying, “Gebaגֶּ֖בַעGe.va'H1387will be our encampmentH4411forH4411theH4411nightH4411.”Ramahהָֽרָמָ֔הha.ra.MahH7414is terrifiedחָֽרְדָה֙cha.re.DahH2729, andGibeahגִּבְעַ֥תgiv.'AtH1390of Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586has fledנָֽסָה׃Na.sahH5127.
