War against Jerusalem

1Now it cameH1961 about in the daysH3117 of 1AhazH271, the sonH1121 of JothamH3147, the sonH1121 of UzziahH5818, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, that 2RezinH7526 the kingH4428 of AramH758 and 3PekahH6492 the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425, kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, wentH5927 up to JerusalemH3389 to wage warH4421 againstH5921 it, but 4couldH3201 not 5conquerH3898H5921 it. 2When it was reportedH5046 to the 6houseH1004 of DavidH1732, sayingH559, “The ArameansH758 78have campedH5117 in 9EphraimH669,” his heartH3824 and the heartsH3824 of his peopleH5971 shookH5128 as the treesH6086 of the forestH3293 shakeH5128 10with the windH7307.

3Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to IsaiahH3470, “GoH3318 out nowH4994 to meetH7122 AhazH271, you and your sonH1121 11Shear-jashubH7610, at the endH7097 of the 12conduitH8585 of the upperH5945 poolH1295, on the highwayH4546 to the 13fuller’sH3526 fieldH7704, 4and sayH559 to him, ‘TakeH8104 careH8104 and be 14calmH8252, haveH3372 noH408 15fearH3372 and 16do not be faintheartedH7401H3824 becauseH4480 of theseH428 twoH8147 stubsH2180 of smolderingH6226 17firebrandsH181, on account of the fierceH2750 angerH639 of RezinH7526 and AramH758 and the 18sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425. 5BecauseH3282H3588 19AramH758, with EphraimH669 and the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425, has plannedH3289 evilH7463 againstH5921 you, sayingH559, 6“Let us goH5927 up against JudahH3063 and 20terrorizeH6973 it, and makeH1234 for ourselves a breachH1234 in 21its walls and setH4427 up the sonH1121 of TabeelH2870 as kingH4428 in the midstH8432 of it,” 7thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH136 22GodH3068: “23It shall not standH6965 norH3808 shall it comeH1961 to passH1961. 8For the headH7218 of AramH758 is 24DamascusH1834 and the headH7218 of DamascusH1834 is RezinH7526 (now within anotherH5750 65H8346H2568 yearsH8141 EphraimH669 will be shatteredH2865, so that it is noH4480 longer a peopleH5971), 9and the headH7218 of EphraimH669 is SamariaH8111 and the headH7218 of SamariaH8111 is the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425. 25IfH518 you will not believeH539, you surelyH3588 shall not 26lastH539.”’”

The Child Immanuel

10Then the LordH3068 spokeH1696 againH3254 to AhazH271, sayingH559, 11“AskH7592 a 27signH226 for yourself from the LordH3068 your GodH430; 28makeH6009 it deepH6009 as SheolH7585 orH176 highH1361 as 29heavenH4605.” 12But AhazH271 saidH559, “I will not askH7592, norH3808 will I testH5254 the LordH3068!” 13Then he saidH559, “ListenH8085 nowH4994, O 30houseH1004 of DavidH1732! Is it tooH4480 slightH4592 a thingH4592 for you to tryH3811 the patienceH3811 of menH376, that you will 31tryH3811 the patienceH3811 of 32my GodH430 as wellH1571? 14ThereforeH3651 the LordH136 HimselfH1931 will giveH5414 you a signH226: BeholdH2009, 33a 34virginH5959 will be with childH2030 and bearH3205 a sonH1121, and she will callH7121 His nameH8034 3536ImmanuelH6005. 15He will eatH398 37curdsH2529 and honeyH1706 38at the time He knowsH3045 enough to refuseH3988 evilH7451 and chooseH977 goodH2896. 1639For beforeH2962 the boyH5288 will knowH3045 enough to refuseH3988 evilH7451 and chooseH977 goodH2896, 40the landH127 whoseH834 twoH8147 kingsH4428 you dreadH6973 will be forsakenH5800.

Trials to Come for Judah

17The LordH3068 will bringH935 on you, on your peopleH5971, and on your father’sH1 houseH1004 suchH834 daysH3117 as have neverH3808 comeH935 sinceH4480 the dayH3117 that 41EphraimH669 separatedH5493 from JudahH3063, the 42kingH4428 of AssyriaH804.”

18In that dayH3117 the LordH3068 will 43whistleH8319 for the flyH2070 that is in the 4445remotestH7097 partH7097 of the riversH2975 of EgyptH4714 and for the beeH1682 that is in the landH776 of AssyriaH804. 19They will allH3605 comeH935 and settleH5117 on the steepH1327 46ravinesH5158, on the 47ledgesH5357 of the cliffsH5553, 48on allH3605 the thornH5285 bushesH5285 and on allH3605 the 49wateringH5097 placesH5097.

20In that dayH3117 the LordH136 will 50shaveH1548 with a 51razorH8593, 52hiredH7917 from regionsH5676 beyondH5676 53the 54EuphratesH5104 (that is, with the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804), the headH7218 and the hairH8181 of the legsH7272; and it will alsoH1571 removeH5595 the beardH2206.

21Now in that dayH3117 a manH376 may keepH2421 aliveH2421 a 55heiferH5697 and a pairH8147 of sheepH6629; 22and becauseH4480 of the abundanceH7230 of the milkH2461 producedH6213 he will eatH398 curdsH2529, for everyoneH3605 that is leftH3498 withinH7130 the landH776 will eatH398 56curdsH2529 and honeyH1706.

23And it will comeH1961 about in that dayH3117, 57that everyH3605 placeH4725 whereH834H8033 there used to be a thousandH505 vinesH1612, valued at a thousandH505 shekels of silverH3701, will becomeH1961 58briarsH8068 and thornsH7898. 24People will comeH935 thereH8033 with bowsH7198 and arrowsH2671 becauseH3588 allH3605 the landH776 will be briarsH8068 and thornsH7898. 25As for allH3605 the hillsH2022 whichH834 used to be cultivatedH5737 with the hoeH4576, you will not goH935 thereH8033 for fearH3374 of briarsH8068 and thornsH7898; but they will becomeH1961 a placeH4916 for 5960pasturingH4916 oxenH7794 and for sheepH7716 to trampleH4823.
